Jack Golson (wiki), British-born Australian archaeologist, supposedly dead at 96. Alwyn Davies FRS (wiki), British chemist, supposedly dead at 97. Both 1926 births. Both obitable. -
American businessman and philanthropist Nelson Broms (wiki) dead at 104.

He’s not going to die before NYE. “The Committee” got lucky with this omission.
-
“You should read more.”
-
36 of the original 92 are still members of the House. “One of the last”… you should write obituaries for Tuskegee Airmen.

I said to myself in my head "I wonder how long until someone finds a way to mention Jimmy Carter". Only took 11 minutes. Impressive.

The author of that article has the most Irish sounding name ever – Vinny Fanneran.

Revisiting this nearly two years on... no recent news but Cardenas appears to still be alive. He presumably turned 104 on July 30. @Gisooo, he doesn't appear on Accurint?

Well I had a look at his Wiki before I posted that comment and saw he’s pretty prominent (41 foreign language Wiki pages), but I went through his entire credit list and I have only seen Amélie. Popular cultural is subjective and I have to claim ignorance here. Maybe you “don’t think it’s something to be proud of” but I could probably do a better job than 95% of your average joes when it comes to naming ppl from popular music, cinema, television etc as well as individuals that “really” matter like world leaders and historical figures that shaped our world. When Gaspard Ulliel died last year I was somewhat surprised that so many ppl didn’t know who he was. We all have our own fancies and niches that lie within a bubble. We then find it hard to conceive that those outside said bubble are unaware of the ppl who bring us so much joy. For example, I’m a massive fan of Takeshi Kitano and his films. Now he’s a pretty big worldwide personality (HUGE in Japan though), but poll his name on the streets of the UK and most ppl will pull blanks (unless you cheat of course and point out he was actually Takeshi in Takeshi’s Castle… though he was 90% edited out of the UK cut). I digress but never heard of him. Shoot me.

Never heard of him but I'm sure @Lafaucheuse is about to tell us that this will be breaking news on Le Monde if he dies.

I'm a Bereaver.

Alive and well it seems. Video of him from 31st Aug, and photos of him from 1st Sep prove the rumours were rubbish.

Oldest Living football league players

Sorry OoO, but this cannot be right. The footballer, as we understand was born on 11 November 1921 in Stroke on Trent, Staffordshire. Check record on FreeBMD – this birth existed. The 1995 death record for "that" Eric Hampson lists his age at "78". That would mean a birth of ~1917... Check record on the GRO – confirms this individual was born in 1917. In fact, here's the full record for "that" Eric Hampson: Name Eric Hampson Death Age 78 Birth Date 9 Feb 1917 Registration Date Nov 1995 Registration district Newcastle Under Lyme Inferred County Staffordshire Register Number 42 District and Subdistrict 7332 Entry Number 144 A quick look at FreeBMD pulls up the birth record for the 1917-born Hampson. He was born in Leigh, Lancashire, and his mother's surname was Aldred. This contradicts the family trees on Ancestry that match these birth and death records. They give his mother as Emma Adams. FreeBMD confirms that Ms. Adams was the mother of the 1921 born Hampson. This is why amateur genealogy is so dangerous. One person matches the wrong record, and then lots of others on Ancestry simply copy it. I'm convinced the real Eric Hampson moved abroad. -
Seems to be true as a lot of the Fulham FC channels on Twitter now reporting.

Hmm is that a legit news site? I genuinely can’t tell what’s a bot site or not anymore

Got a breaking news notification from GBNews for some reason.

Well the oldest person in my local Conservative association is 108 (still lives independently) so the fact that the oldest Labour member was “only” 105 suggests that their centenarian demographic probably ain’t that strong.
-
Beatty Orwell dead at 105. Oldest member of the Labour Party and a former councillor and mayoress. Guardian obit.
