Updated the Cold War leaders list following the death of Christos Sartzetakis. Just Constantine II left from Greece. Still a pretty "young" name. 82 in June, though admittedly I know nothing of his current health.

Believe it or not, but organisations like ISIS and the Taliban do maintain a good thread of communication with the western media, to an extent. They have to. I've been at the Telegraph before when one of my journo friends received a phone call from a Boko Haram spokesperson. Very strange experience. You should be okay for points. ISIS were very quick to confirm the death of al-Baghdadi in 2019. They had replaced him within a week as well. Quick replacement makes it look like the death is not as meaningful to them as the West would like to believe. It's a show of strength and resilience.

This article states he was unable to attend the Jan 25th installation of a new archbishop due to failing health. Also mentions his last public appearance was in Nov 2021. Says that he is "well and sound", which sounds like a bit of a contradiction to me. Months rather than years left would be my guess. -
That's true, but it's generally the same. Until it's explained, I wouldn't take it as confirmation of her death. The names "Vera" "Frances" and "Ward" are not exactly the most common, but nor are they rare... ... we've been here before when mistakes have been made with similar or same named people. Baroness Turner (wiki) springs to mind. There was a death notice for a different Muriel Winifred Turner circulating a couple of years before the Baroness died, and the family had to issue a statement denying she was dead after most assumed it was the same person.

Yes, also @Gisooo, if you find any new information on anyone but it's dubious and unverified, then it belongs in the Detective thread. FYI though, it appears Vera Frances may have died in 2016 in Southwark, London, but you'd need to prove it's the same person somehow. Her maiden surname was Still so you could verify it by ordering a death certificate (if you really care that much) or getting verification from elsewhere online that she went to live in Southwark in her last years. WARD, VERA FRANCES 1930 GRO Reference: DOR Q3/2016 in SOUTHWARK (251-1A) Entry Number 514050703

That isn't true. She was interviewed in 2008. It was her husband who died in Cambridgeshire in 2000.
-
She definitely was in 2009 because she granted an interview. Best place to find your answer is via a photo and/or post search on Facebook under both English and Urdu/Hindi? names.

Apologies Quim.

Ivermectin is still going through clinical trials but the initial tests show it does have some degree of effect. The WHO have said that until it's approved, people shouldn't be popping it outside of clinical trials. If the man is happy to make himself a guinea pig however, just let him be. Not sure why it upsets you so much Quim.

In other words, not a notable actor in the adult film industry. Just tabloid fodder.

Times obit for Tessa Gaiman MBE, who has died aged 67 from breast cancer. Maggie's secretary from 1977 to 1989.

I was torn on which one of these to use as her bio pic on the DDP... ... I ultimately went for the one on the left because I didn't want anyone accusing me of airbrushing pictures to improve/slim appearances.

Just a minor stroke. He only suffered dizziness and has presumably already been discharged. May only be 49, but when you're considerably overweight any health complication becomes more likely.

Deathobits.com is a spam site, not a news source. A rookie mistake for a long-term DL member. I hope you won't mind me saying, seeing as you always grill others on their slip ups. Local obit from a reputable source.

Emmanuel Wamala has just been killed off on his Wiki page. Doesn’t look like vandalism either. Can’t find anything elsewhere. -
Shintaro Ishihara (wiki), former Governor of Tokyo for 13 years, dead at 89. A past DDP pick (not this year though).

Romania doesn’t have any important ppl. Not since Ceausescu died.

Alright, if it’s personal significance, rather than worldly significance, then Marlon Bundo it is then. Cos I like fluffy rabbits.
-
Seeing as this thread is effectively becoming “When Newbs Say the Stupidest Things”, I may as well just go with the flow. Most significant death of Jan 2022: Marlon Bundo the Bunny Rabbit

Sidney Poitier won an Oscar (and was the first black male to win one), 2 Golden Globes, a Grammy, and a BAFTA. He was knighted by the Queen, received a Kennedy Center Honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a BAFTA Fellowship, was ranked in the top 25 best male actors ever by AFI. He broke the glass ceiling for people of colour in cinema, and was internationally renowned. Bob Saget was a mediocre comedian barely heard of outside the States who presented America’s Funniest Home Videos. How is he the most significant death of January 2022?
