There are too many threads already.  It leads to endless cross-posting when someone dies who fits into multiple threads, and people being snarky with :clivedunn:

For instance Susie Steiner is already covered by the Authors thread and the Journalists thread.

I don't agree that any of the individuals mentioned by Crem above should have their own threads but I don't agree with your argument. On the contrary, if they have their own thread you don't need to decide between various occupational threads as to where to post it.

Foreign Office emails released showing that Johnson did intervene in the evacuation of his mate's animals from Afghanistan over people who helped British Forces during the conflict, a matter which Johnson denied on 7th December in answer to a reporter's question on the matter.

Wonder how Tugendhat and his ilk feel about that?

My understanding was the animals were evacuated via private aircrafts, no?

My dad is 51. Old bastard.

50s is a tricky decade because in some instances I really don’t consider it to be old, and sometimes I do associate it as being “getting” old.

Jennifer Anniston is 53 this year. She looks incredible. But most British men have long resigned from taking care of themselves by that point and they look like roast gammon.

Edit: Christ. Just noticed that Brad Pitt is 60 next year?! How is that possible?

Maybe they are pointing that out because you can't do anything about having underlying conditions, bad genes or advanced age. Moreover, you don't know how your body responses to this particular virus until you get sick. Pushing on the underlying conditions would produce the effect of making people even more relaxed and expose them to the risk of getting sick with all the drawbacks we know...pushing on the vaccines instead can produce some good effects, if you find a pill that gives me the resistance of Kane Tanaka please consider me for investment but until then the only ways I know to effectively reduce your chances of dying are by being cautious and/or get the jabs.

Yes you can. Many underlying conditions e.g. diabetes are manageable depending on how well you look after yourself. Those with less manageable conditions like cancer or those of an extreme age can shield, but that's up to them of course. I personally wouldn't want to do that because what kind of a life would that leave you?

Agree with the last point to a degree, but they're both short-term focussed and that's been the problem during this whole pandemic. Govs haven't told ppl they need to improve their diets and exercise more. The UK Gov did their COVID-related anti-obesity campaign for a while (which included billboards across the country)... that all seems to have gone quiet again now that the PM doesn't seem to be doing his daily runs anymore and has once again ballooned.

Wow 106 is a wonderful age ! Did he die at 106 ?

the oldest person I know myself is my great grandmother who’s approaching 102 now but tbh she’s not as healthy as she used to be in the last two or so years : she has cancer on her cheek (don’t know which kind of cancer though) and the medical team don’t want to take the risk to operate her because it would requires a general anesthesia which, at that age, is quite risky… so we’ll see how it goes !

Yes he died at 106. I think I last met him when he was 104 or so. I didn't realise how old he was at the time though!

Who are the oldest people you've ever seen in person?

My gran's uncle was still alive when I was still in my early years of primary school. He was 106 and one of the oldest men in Scotland at the time. Very lucid and sharp for his age too!

    That’s a surprise.

No it isn't. Whether or not someone has the vaccine isn't the only big determining factor to the severity of COVID in individuals, and this is what ppl seem to struggle with the most in understanding why most of us, vaccinated or unvaccinated, will suffer from the virus no more than we would a bad head cold.

Underlying conditions is ofc the most obvious other factor. Past exposure to the virus, or similar viruses is another which is seldom discussed but so vital – in fact, even if you're the type of person who never gets colds then you're more at risk because of how badly your immune system will respond. Genetics is also a huge factor, as is ethnicity.

So turns out he was jabbed and ppl are shocked that he still died. Why? I don't get that.

On an aside, thanks to an FOI the other day, we now know that just ~18,000 of the ~171,000 COVID deaths in the UK (ONS figures) had no underlying conditions. Meanwhile, Boris and the media have constantly flung this "90% of people in hospital with COVID are unvaccinated" b/s. It was never as high as 90% – 74% at its peak, and it's currently 61% as per the British Medical Journal.

So about 40% of the people still in hospital with COVID are jabbed... and folk would do well to absorb that. People need to get out their head that the vaccine is a magic bullet and will protect them from any risk of getting ill with COVID. Just simply isn't the case. It will help, I don't dispute that (though not as much as natural immunity), but if you're 50+ there's every chance you could fall pretty ill with it regardless.

As suspected, Earle Parsons is dead. There's an obit for him in this 2015 49ers magazine here. Died December 18, 2014, aged 93.

Still can't find anything for Don Johnson.

As Parsons is dead, I'm almost certain that Charley Trippi is the oldest former NFL player.

Don Johnson died in September 1965, aged just 44.

    Death record.
    Newspaper clipping.

Means that Charley Trippi (b. 1921) is undoubtedly the oldest living NFL player, with the second oldest being Pete Wismann (b. 1923), and the third being Dub Jones (b. 1924).

So the full GRO Index has revealed:

William Simpson appears to be alive, or was at the end of 2020.

There is a Jim Smith born 1920 who died in 2020 from Leicester. I don't think it's the same man as I think the footballing JS was more likely - if alive - to be near Bolton.

As I suspected, Trevor Churchill did indeed die in 2020.

That's all the deaths from 1919-1929 births, so happily those that we had down as alive are (to the best of our knowledge) still alive.

I'm working through the 1930-1931 births but for those who keep tabs in the meantime:

Jim Walker (ex Peterborough, Sheff Utd) died 2020, in Nottingham.

Just a heads up OoO... as I long suspected, a number of the deaths from Q4 of 2019 were missing from the GRO. They appear to have been uploaded in the last few days along with the whole of 2020 e.g. British actor Godfrey James died in Oct 19, and his record has only just appeared there. May be worth your while checking that quarter again in the future at some point.

Why are tweets not imbedding again?

In bloody everything - Darling Buds of May, Witchfinder General, Emmerdale, Tales of the Unexpected, Onedin Line, Dr Who, Basil Brush Show, etc etc.

I know there was some confusion over this because we couldn't find him in the GRO Index for 2019. As I long suspected, not all of the deaths from the last quarter of 2019 were in the GRO... until now.

    JAMES, GODFREY     1931
GRO Reference:  DOR  Q4/2019 in EAST SUSSEX  (462-1A)  Entry Number 519807101

Don't think anyone doubted Toby Hadoke, but still good to have secondary confirmation.

Telegraph obit for Henryetta Edwards (IMDb), a supporting actress in British cinema and stage during the 30s–50s.

She died May 1st and was aged 95. Her career never really took off but she was well known in wider society as her parents were director Henry Edwards (1882–1952) and silent-era actress Chrissie White (1898–1985).

GRO Index is FINALLY updated to the end of 2020.

If anyone has any England/Wales names they'd like to run through it, here's the link, or ask me if you can't get access.

EDIT: Hmmm very weird. They've added all the deaths from Oct, Nov, Dec 2020, but not for the first 9 months of the year... why?  Hopefully the rest will appear in the next few days!

Update: quarters 1, 2 and 3 of 2020 are now up in the GRO Index.

    Finally!

@Ulitzer95 I saw it today, in December 6, last year she celebrate her 100th birthday, her IMDb birth date in June 12 is wrong. Look good as a old woman:)

No. IMDb is likely correct. I just checked. Her birth is registered June–August 1921 in Basford, Nottinghamshire, England. You cannot register a birth if the person has not been born yet.

They were likely just celebrating late.

When my sister had her 40th last February, she waited until the summer to celebrate it so that the weather would be better. People wait for all kinds of reasons. Maybe she had been ill before?

  17. Big Merv Shields dead from COVID-19 complications.

Age not known but believed to be in his late 50s. Bass guitarist for neo-Nazi skinhead group Skrewdriver (wiki), fronted by the infamous Ian Stuart Donaldson (1957–1993).

Posted this in here as I didn't think the Nazi of SS thread was appropriate (it seems to just be WWII names we discuss in there). This thread should probably act as a place to discuss the British far right.
