  1. Of note, Doug Hoyle was the last living MP who represented the now abolished seat of Warrington.

His death also leaves Lord John Lee (wiki), 81, as the last living MP to have represented the now abolished seat of Nelson and Cole. Lee was a Tory MP from 1979 to 1992. He publicly defected to the Lib Dems in 2001, and was given a peerage from them in 2006.

Warrington Guardian have gone for 97, Lancashire Telegraph have gone for 94.

Warrington Guardian and Lancashire Telegraph have now amended their articles.

Guardian obit confirms born 17 Feb 1926 in Coppull, a village by Chorley. Did not serve in WWII.

ITV is giving his age as 98. Error?

    This is correct actually.

The birth records don't like. Eric D H Hoyle, born in Chorley on 17 Feb 1926.

Wowza. Everywhere has it wrong, even Who's Who!

Not exactly a by-election but I'm not thinking to start another thread for the non-event of Police and Crime Commissioner elections. Interesting development in Cumbria (where the post also includes responsibility for the fire service). The incumbent - Peter McCall (Conservative) -  has done two terms and isn't standing again, though the Conservatives do have another candidate. The problem is, as things stand, he's currently the only candidate!

For the love of god please don’t bother. There’s a general political discussion thread. PCCs are the most boring and pointless things in the whole of the UK political system.

I said this a year ago when the list was first made, but it seems to have been overlooked. Caren Marsh Doll (b. 6 Apr 1919, American).

Caren Marsh Doll turns 105 years young today.

Let's see if we get the usual birthday pictures appearing on Facebook over the next few days.

According to the My Heritage website, Van Seagraves died in 2012: https://www.myheritage.com/names/van_seagraves

However, there are no obituaries I could find on him. Given his tie to the Roosevelts, it seems unusual that, if he has died, it would go undisclosed. I suspect the MyHeritage information is incorrect. However, if you are that curious, it appears you might be able to contact Mr. Seagraves directly, as he appears to be alive: https://www.familytreenow.com/records/people/id/gsenneloooeplnkeroaor

He's not really notable. Married a grandchild of a president. Whoopdie-doo. Wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if he died off radar. He was born in 1923 so odds are he's dead.

Unusual East Coast earthquake - 4.8 off New York.

Is it me, or are earthquakes getting really common these days?

An earthquake has to be 7+ to be considered major. There are only on average 15 of those per year on the entire planet.

There are variations from year to year. It goes up and down, but there's no evidence to suggest they're becoming more or less frequent in general.

    Make that 248.

Death notice for Hans Hamilton, 4th Baron HolmPatrick (wiki), aged 69. Sat in the House of Lords as a Conservative peer from 1991 to 1999.

  9. Oh and btw, a lot of the hereditaries are absolutely skint. Some live in squalor – flats or houses falling apart in disrepair, leaking pipes, damp and rot everywhere. Just because their great grandfather had money and land does not guarantee they do. There's a lot of modern day ignorance about the hereditaries.

The only group of people our population is more ignorant about is the military, what they do and how they operate. Yet, just like the hereditaries, everyone is quick out the door to give you their strong opinion about them.

I think it's easy to be nice when you inherit huge landholdings from which you derive a merry income, knowing you'll pass it on to your kids relatively tax free because it is held in trust or by a nominated company. Meanwhile, Mrs Pensioner who got that house when her husband died gets her family smashed with a 40 per cent inheritance tax bill.

No doubt this chap did a lot of good in his area though. Just a pity they have all the privileges with little of the responsibility we all have in our lives.

So you're saying peoples' mood and behaviour is driven by their social status or income? That's very classist/snobby of you (see how I turned that against you, motor mouth ;)).

    Absolutely love these nobs' names.

So it is with a sense of responsibility that I refer to the report of Gerard Neville Mark Fane-Trefusis, 22nd Baron Clinton, aged 89: https://www.sidmouthherald.co.uk/news/24231080.lord-clinton-gerard-nevile-mark-fane-died-aged-89/

Heir apparent is his son Charles Patrick Rolle Fane-Trefusis (b. 1962).

That's a bit unfair. Silly name does not = nob. On the contrary, I've always found the hereditary peers are far better people – nicer and wiser – than the crony life peers the HoL is now stuffed with.

His death means that 249 out of the 666 hereditaries removed in 1999 are still living. New and improved list can be found here. Funny to think that King Charles was one of the hereditaries removed in '99!

There's controversy on that. According to most sources he was born on 01/11/11, but Shanghai census always gave 01/11/12 as a date. I don't doubt about his age.

We ultimately settled for 1912 on Wiki. The reason being that 1911 could have been spawned as a confusion over his age according to East Asia age reckoning.

A pity. She would have been a hella good pick.

  14. Markoff or the Taiwanese guy don’t count. I think the List of Centenarians page on Wiki uses a fair definition ie known for reasons other than their longevity so oldest veteran, oldest marathon runner, oldest beekeeper blah blah blah don’t count. I’d also exclude masters athletes unless they had a professional or amateur athletic career of note before longevity brought them further attention.
