No less than three channels have programmes tonight about it. Exploitative? For arsonists/pyromaniacs this is porn night for them!

If so, OoO will retake the lead by my calculations... -
FIFA will take a dim view of a politician interfering in one of their acredited associations...

That was Neil Innes, wasn't it?

Time for China to give them a bit of a slap, I think...

Ironically enough...

Yes I've been musing on this. It could be that in the future the only "free" resource for obits would be the BBC. I may decide that the Beeb will be the "only" source for obits should the others shut up shop. Of course that narrows things down a bit in terms of picks/hits but it may focus the minds a bit, although it might force entry numbers down as some of the more obscure pickers may give up the ghost... Let me assure you all that nothing has been decided...yet.

He takes me back to those long gone times of a Labour Government in the 70s and Franklin, the Sun newspapers cartoonist. Was it really that long ago? Who is the one in the middle meant to be? Possibly Merlyn Rees, Home Secretary under Wilson & Callaghan. Makes sense. That makes half the people in the cartoon still living - not bad for 34 years after Labour lost power. Less than half, actually. Only Benn and Healey are still alive... Maggie? Apologies, I failed to spot the old bag at the bulldozer...

Nah, he'll bounce back, he always does...

Matthew Waterhouse's Blue Box Boy seemed to make some allegations about senior DW directors. I haven't read this but picked this up from the coverage in the DW press. I read the review of that book. For all the salaciousness, it seems pretty even handed. I'm not all that surprised about Downie. In interviews he came over as a bit of a prick. In terms of Dr Who's cancellation, it's Jonathan Powell, not Michael Grade who is the real vilain of the piece...

James Bond 007 (Connery/Moore/Villains etc)
themaninblack replied to Typhoid Harry's topic in DeathList Forum
I'd say View To A Kill was one of the weakest Bonds, not least because Roger Moore was almost eligible for a bus pass Believe it or not, that judgement has been challenged in recent years. Here's an example of it's reevaluation... -

I was watching some Zizek on YouTube last night (as you do.) He was rubbing his nose constantly in some of the clips like and . I Googled around and a number of people online allege/suspect he has a serious cocaine habit. That, along with his heart condition (he apparently had an actual albeit mild heart attack some years ago) and his obesity mean I am considering him more and more seriously as a contender to go in the next few years. As always with Zizek, he is clearly baiting the interviewer in this article so it is hard to separate the truth from the bullsh*t, but he mentions his heart attack briefly. Cocaine socialism?

Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists
themaninblack replied to Stayin Alive's topic in DeathList Forum
Described on one website this morning as "the Italian Allan Wells". What an epithet. Is Allan Welles the Scottish Don Quarrie? -
Summer Olympic Deaths/Dead Medallists

One of my early sporting memories was of Mennea beating Allan Welles in the 1980 Olympics. Held the 200m world record for years... -
Hi Book, I've merged your thread with the existing discussion, but have retained your title, as -sorry TMIB - I liked it more than Gay De(a)d. That's alright DDT, it was a shit premise anyway...

Of course the Daily Mail were hammering it about the Argentinian junta day after day even before 1982. Hmmm...
