One of my picks for 2011 (Ronald Wolfe) died 18th December but no obit was forthcoming until January Did I feel aggrieved at missing out on the points? Not that much, and I soon got over any disappointment when the 2012 competition got under way. I understood the rules when I entered; it is when all's said and done, a bit of fun. As an academic exercise, maybe someone could have a look at the last couple of years or so and see if allowing early-next-year obits would have made any difference to the final result. Er...but it did win points! Unless of course you mean Ronald SEARLE! This has happened already this year, with Daphne Oxenford dying on 21st December but the obit only coming to light today. Of course I'll make an exception if the legit obit is published before 23:59 31st December but I'm only made aware of it after January 1st... Thing is, there has to be a cut off point. During the year, you often get the likes of the Independent printing obits months after the pick has died. In DDP, you are straight into the next year, no close season or nothing. I can't juggle around two years at the same time. If Father Time says it's 2013, then it's 2013 and on we go...

Yes, and the same team picked for 2013, so double disaster. Nevertheless, at least there's a substitute...

Oh hell At the very least, are alts considered acceptable for people who die before the New Year but are known within the first few days? Oh yes. Anyone that snuffs it gets a replacement...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/20881346 Well thats a decent start to my DDP. CMj was my joker so with Aggers confirming he died this morning all need to do is see if hes worth 16 points or 22 (unique pick). Hats off to Geoff Boycott and then CMJ's Twitter page for the tip and confirmation According to my calculations (which at this moment in time means using the search option on my Gmail app sitting at my mun's house) one other team chose CMJ. Could have done with at least a couple of days grace but that's modern day DDP for you...

if he dies on the 31st (Cuban time) he will be a hit on the 2012 list won't he? It's a thorny issue. The deadline for obits is more rigid than for entries to the following years competition. If Chavez does die on NYE but it is announced on NYD, then we're double fucked. A not too disimilar thing happened in 2010/11 with Ronald Searle.

I can assure you that Anker Joergensen is by no means a unique hit. Indeed he's become a bit of cult pick for 2013...

Curiously, my theme team did way better than my normal one. That will not be the case in 2013...

Good news who had her for 2012. Not so good for those who had her in their 2013 teams... -

Only 31 and half hours to get a pukka obit... -
They better give it the full name "Ozzy Osbourne Airport", if it's just the surname people from outside will think it's a tribute to our "beloved" Chancellor of the Exchequer...

Fuck it, Harry wasn't here to help. He was the captain of my sadly reserve-free 'arry-Kiri theme team, submitted barely 8 hours ago. TMIB, if you're reading this can I add that bald burping bloke with the big collar and bump Camping up to joker, please? Or should I go with the equally healthy Harry Hamlin? Help me out here, people. There's only one way to sort that out......................FIGHT!!

All those who have sent teams from Christmas Eve onwards will get confirmation by end of play on Saturday. What I may ultimately do to get the teams up sooner is to initially have minimal details on the new celebs (name and gender). Then I'll roll out details in the same way I normally do with the pictures of said celebs. So what I'll do is get the teams up, then add the details of celebs (birth date/place, notes and pics)...
