    Jesse Helms

It means a lot to you, doesn't it? You'll be on top once low hanging fruit Randy Pausch dies. I'm not sure I've got the strength and depth in my team to stay in front for much longer, I've had to rely on youth to get where I am anyway. Mind you, I've been at number one for longer than Bohemian Rhapsody. Naah, never look hardly, couldn't give a monkey's, only threw the team together last minute. Funnily enough I just had a look at Pausch on Wikipedia (just in passing, like) and he looked terrible in the picture, until I realised I was looking at Sting. I think he might make it through the year (that's Pausch) and hope he does. I think my team has run out of steam for the second half. So you've been checking my team out hey? I might as well join the conversation... We all don't have much left after our respective blistering starts. I was thinking the other day of how many more from my list might die and thought that either Helms or Getty would go. So I'm glad one of them did...Nice to get one in the summer!

    Political Frailty

Heard Geoffrey Howe on Radio 4's Today programme this morning, talking about the economic crisis. I must say, he sounded a bit frail, in a sort of Enoch Powell on his last legs sort of way. If you could imagine his (once) familiar dulcet tones, but several semitones higher... One to watch...

Oh no! The witch off of 'Simon and the Witch'..... And was mum in 'Shine on Harvey Moon'. Great character actress... Also a homicidal 'ressie' in Doctor Who in 1987!

    Time Added

Was Scotland in the final? I must have missed something. No, none of the Brit teams qualified - but as I often go to Spain over the summer, I rooted for them and was overjoyed when they won. If Scotland ever get to the final, I'll be on such a bender you'll never hear from me again. You've made my day, even if you are a leg pulling poster disguised as a guest, either way perhaps you'll be staying for a wee while yet eh? Frequency of qualifying: Likelihood of winning: As much as England then...

    The Dead Of 2008

From a Torygraph article: "A former boyfriend, Artem Perchenok, 24, said he dropped Korshunova off at her apartment several hours before her death after they watched the Demi Moore film Ghost together." There's the murderer - he pushed her. No way does a 20 year old (apparently) successful super model top herself. Although maybe DDT has suggested another possible suspect..... We've got the prime suspect then...

    Ideas And Possibilities For 2009

Begorrah! There's loads of by-elections going on isn't there? THe Henly one I knew nothing about until Friday... If an MP's quitting due to ill health, then they really don't have much time left. Usually they stay till the bitter end, so I'd be surprised if he sees it through to 2009...

    The Dead Of 2008

Although I'll fully admit to never hearing of Field Marshal Manekshaw before this year, he's turned out to be one of my favourite candidates on the DDP. And a great handlebar moustache I must say! Looks a lot like the actor Nigel Green too...

    The Dead Of 2008

And yet still nothing for Wujcik, not even for Handy's DP (no offense intended Handy, I just mean that you're much more forgiving when it comes to obit coverage)... I'dve already had three hits on the WDP this year *blah blah blah rant rant rant* I'm still counting it as a hit in my books. On a serious note, given the amount of people, some of whom who were legitimately famous, who didn't get a mention in the Guardian this year, my opinion is that the Guardian should stay. I wouldn't say that the Guardian's obits are making things too easy, just that some people are getting lucky (myself included, if I'm not mistaken). It does publish obits for legitimate famous people who might not have otherwise gotten one. I'm still smarting that John Smyth's wasn't covered...

    A Joke

A couple are at an art gallery and are left rather confused by one of the paintings. The curator of the gallery notices this and goes over to ask them what the problem was. The couple show the curator the painting. It's of three black men, sitting naked on a park bench. What's confusing is that although two of the black men had black penises, the one in the middle has a pink penis. The curator goes on to explain his theory about the painting. He thinks its a representation of the emasculation of African-American men by Whites and the painting is symbolic of the struggle between black and white men. He also outlines another theory that is a representation of the oppression of gay men within the black commuity. The couple are left satisfied by the explaination, but as they leave the gallery, they are approached by a Scotsman. "Do you want to know what that painting is really about?" he asks. "How would you know more than the curator as to what the paintings about?" asks one of them. "Because I was the man who painted it, that's why." "So what's it about then?" they ask. "Well, its not about the representation of African-Americans or the oppression of gay men, it's three Scottish coalminers sitting in the sun and the one in the middle's been home to see the wife!"

    Deathlist 2011

Field Marshall Manekshaw has slipped in to a coma, his condition is critical. Dead A hard day at work ends with some points injected into my somewhat lacklustre assualt on deadpool honours this year. The man is a shoe-in for broadsheet obits, right? Oh Y-E-E-E-E-E-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S-S!!!!!! I'm beginning to get the feeling that DDT is Death! As soon as he appears and mentions somebody, their days are numbered...

    The Dead Of 2008

God you are a colossal prick. So you were 8, so you know more than anyone else in the world. Prick. Er... my Gran died at 3. So I beat you by 5 years you little twat f****r of losing someone I loved. And it was someone I genuially loved, not a beardy twat with a puppet's arse on his hand. Prick. I hope you have found a job so we don't have to put up with this sh*t posting anymore. Prick. and are you presuming that we are all the same age as you & that no-one else famous would have died in our lives bar Henson? Most of the UK didn't even care. God you are a prick. A colossal one. Why don't you die & cause shockwaves across your prick First of, I'm terribly sorry for the loss of your grandmother. Second, I should have said "many" instead of "most" 7 or 8 year olds. I probably blew things out of proportion. Third, yes, Jim Henson was very popular in America, and he was beloved by many young children. Fourth, I neither said nor inferred that I knew more than anyone else in the world when I was 8. When I was 7 or 8, one thing I can say is that A LOT of youngsters my age were aware of Jim Henson's death, and many of us were STUNNED by his death. I didn't know about it anymore than many 7 or 8 year olds at the time. Like i said, for many of us at that age (or younger) who did not lose a relative, this is likely the first time we probably felt like death hit us close to home. Yes, there are 7 or 8 year olds who already lost a relative or a loved one, but for those who didn't (and that is probably many 7 or 8 year olds), this is the "first time" where the concept of death really materialized for us. Many 7 or 8 year olds were hit a bit hard because at the very least, Jim Henson was the first time that we really experienced a famous celebrity's death. Or at least a celebrity we cared about. Fifth, I know Jim Henson was a lot more famous in the US than the UK, hence I mentioned the "states." Sixth, yes, I'm doing fine and I appreciate your concern about my job status. Being unemployed for 2-3 months sucks, but it was a nice vacation and a nice escape from the rat race. And besides, the economy in the US sucks so a good number of people in their mid-20s have lost their jobs and have resorted to moving back with their parents. At least the people in their mid-20s have that luxury of falling back to their parents, whereas people in their 40s have to worry about their finances, mortgages, children, etc. Seventh, what the heck is the prick-o-meter? I really did not mean to come across as a prick. Naive, yes. Arrogant, admittedly. But never a prick. Don't worry about it BC, he's just obsessed with pricks, that's all. He's probably playing with one now...

    The Dead Of 2008

To honour the great man's passing, let's see how his "seven words you can never say on TV" get on vs. the DL Sweary Mary Whitehouse Censor: sh*t, piss, f**k, C-word, cocksucker, motherfucker, and tits [edit - update, 4 out of 7 are deemed "ok" for DL purposes] He was quite omniscient. Of the words on the list (which dates from the early '70's) today only "piss" is sort of ok on television, although only in the "pissed off" format. "Ass" meanwhile is now totally fine. A true legend, he'll be missed. Don't you mean prescient?
