    The Dead - 2007

Sports journalist Ian Wooldridge has died aged 75

    Ronnie Biggs

Biggs isn't the last survivor. Where di you get that from, MPFC? Bruce Reynolds is still going strong, for a start - he appeared at a funeral last week. Looked a little gaunt, but otherwise okay. Whose funeral? You're hanging around with the wrong people OoO....

I don't normally wish death on anyone, only guess... I'll make an exception with Alex Ferguson.. I sincerely hope he dies of cancer....

    Death Cheat

I agree but if somebody happened to bring her up to me, I would have said put her in. It's one of those situations where after the person is gone, it makes sense that she would have been a great selecting choice. She would be a good punt for the DDP, yes. But the Deathlist is (I assume) a more considered list. There was no great indication at the end of 2006, that she was going to definitely die in 2007...

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries ,etc ...for 2007

Thanks for the heartfelt birthday message, MPFC, always appreciated Tempus posted only yesterday, I thought, on Handreijka's death pool thread. Use the search facility. As for where he was, he was throwing cakes at cars, no? Well, CP, you've outdone yourself this time. The sad thing is I don't know who half of the girls are, but I can see Scarlett Johanssen & Fearne Cotton, so I'm happy. Thanks for the effort, though, it is much appreciated. Ta ever so to everyone else too. Especially to STTG for that magnficent cake pic. Yum! DL watchers will be pleased (or disappointed ) to know I had a medical today, amongst other birthday joys, and I have been pronounced "excellently fit & healthy". Expect me to drop dead tomorrow then............ (probably when my party starts) Hmm..I've never had a medical, but I'm one of those people who probably doesn't bother and then... Mind you, I am over familar with the Dentist chair..

    The Dead - 2007

I remember him - he played for Portugal in the 1986 World Cup against England. That's both their goalkeeper's dead now. I know I've only just turned 29, but deaths like this make me feel old. That's three of the Portuguese players from the 1986 squad dead already. So much for the Mediterrean diet & lifestyle. It's a pity the death threshold doesn't move twenty years and focus on a certain twinkle-toe'd winger! I remember Bento - he made some great saves in the classic 1984 European Championship Semi-Final against France..

In case you don't know, 16 yr old Josie Grove has decided to no longer have treatment for terminal cancer and has decided to enjoy what life she has left. Link As you can see, the mainstream media have covered the story and will almost certainly follow this up when her short life comes to an end. This leaves a quandary: DDP rules allow candidates to be over 16 and as she is a the very start of the age band, will score 12 points for whoever choses her... ...question is, would you do it?

    Jesus - The Tombinator

It don't matter to Jesus! Jesus wasn't his proper name anyway - that's what the Greeks called him.. Unless they can find someone alive or the remains of someone who is proven to be related to "Jesus" I don't understand how they can claim that they have the actual remains. Even with DNA all they'll be able to prove is that people who the remains in the tomb belong to were related to each other. Goodness me, imagine if scientists did track down the descendant of Jesus - he/she wouldn't be able to cope with the media stampede...

After thinking about it, I'm still glad I left her off my DDP team, despite meaning more points lost. But I don't feel any moral superiority this morning, just kinda relief I didn't pick her. I only hope Messner goes to make up for it. though. It is sad, unusually high media attention or not. She didn't last long did she? I'm hoping Messner, Ali, Beefheart and about ten others make up for missing out on Grove and the Iraqi bollock brothers whoever they were....

    The Dead - 2007

Yes, there was an obit in the Times, under Lives in Brief (where I'm sticking my forlorn hopes on a John Smyth obit turning up). But there's been a revamp of the online Times, so it may have been dropped...

    The Dead - 2007

Already mentioned Not only that, Phantom, Joseph Gallo was not a winemaker. His fortune was in cheese, his brothers were the winemakers. Not to mention Iain was two days late with this post. If this is the kind of "research" Iain puts into his posts, we're really better off without it. Why do you keep thinking it's Iain?

    The First 2007 Success Poll

Yeah, better than the 1989 one! That got 3 hits though..
  23. themaninblack

    Damn, won't anyone die?

1987: Clive Dunn, Andre de Cesaris, Jimmy Savile & Ozzy are still with us.. No-one in the '87 list died in 1988... 1989: Alright there were 3 hits, but 1989 must be the worst list ever! Melly, Bruno, Robson, Mandela, Mike Ditka (who?), Paisley, Kendall, Brian Wilson, Cyril Smith, David Jenkins & George Cole are still with us. William Hartnell & Wilfred Bramble were already dead! Malcolm Muggeridge died in 1990... 1990: Noriega, Aznavour, Waldhiem, Allis, Rex Williams, Oprah, Yeltsin, Aquino & Terry Waite are still with us.. None on the list died in 1991, nor did any on the list drawn up for 1991... 1991: Norman Willis, Patrick Moore, Bernard Manning, Leo Beenakker and Zsa Zsa (just) are still with us.. Magnus Pyke died in 1992 (I'm not counting one's which DL included in the next years list and got right!) 1992: Walter Cronkite, Tom Finney, Shaun Ryder and Vincent O'Brien are still with us (O'Brien could return to the list - he's 90!). None died in 1993... 1993: Still with us - Tony Bennett, Tony Curtis, John Demanjuk, Henry Kissinger, Ray Kennedy, George Lineker (shame on you!), Eric Sykes, Michael Foot & Jerry Lee Lewis.. Loads died in 1994, but ones missed were Charles Bukowski and Annie Walker off of Corrie... 1994: Still with us - Edmund White, Anne Kirkbride (?), Yitshak Shamir, Holly Johnson, Jeremy Thorpe, Peter Shilton & our old friend Fidel... Missed out on Peter Wright & Harold Wilson in 1995... Bette Davis died in 1989! 1995: Still with us - Edmund Hilary, Arthur C. Clarke, Bruce Forsythe & Sean Connery. Geoffery Dickens died in 1995, but it was the wrong one! (MP rather than the historian) 1996: Still with us - Icons of the 80s (JR & Mr T), Fats Domino, Bill Deades. Clean sweep in '97 as the Death List starts to hone down its top 50... 1997: Still with us - Norman Wisdom, Mickey Rooney & Kirk Douglas (combined age 268!) DL got 4 right in 1998 from the 97 list.. 1998: Still with us - General Whathisname from Poland, Alexander Solzhenitsyn.. Missed out on Anne Haddy in 1999... 1999: Still with us - Evel Knievel, Valclav Havel, Nick Leeson & Carly Simon Rewarded for perserverance with 6 hits in 2000, with one miss - Victor Borge 2000: Still with us - Ronnie Biggs' first appearance. Louis Farrakhan Missed out on Anthony Quinn and John Lee Hooker. 2001: Still with us - Ernest Gallo, Desmond Mediocredegreegrade, Liza Minelli, Jack Jones, Eli Wallach. Chapman Pincher and Herman Wouk are worth a punt in 2008, providing they hang on.. 2002: Still with us - Albert Hoffman, Maharishi, Brady, Alex Higgins, Levi-Strauss, Suharto, Niemeyer and (possibly) Osama Bin Laden.. 6 hits and no misses in 2003's record breaking year! 2003: Still with us - Harry Morgan 6 hits in 2004. Missed out on Yasser Arafat surprisingly... 2004: Still with us - Pervez Musharraf, Dom Mintoff, Cliff Michelmore and Robert Mugabe.. No-one died in 2005 from the 2004 list.. 2005: Still with us - Big list not surprising as it's only 2 years ago... Astor, Liz Taylor, Claire Raynor, Karzai, Maradona, La Motta, Tony Martin, Jane Wyman, Betty Ford, O'Sullevan, Jerry Lewis, Les Paul, de Havilland. JK Galbraith was the big miss in 2006...

    The First 2007 Success Poll

Erm..not quite! The longest gap in Deathlist history was between 18th May 1990 (Jill Ireland) and 23rd March 1992 (Jim Joel). In the Modern era (I mean since the 50 per year rule was brought in), the longest gap was... 23/06/96 (Andreas Papandreou) to 19/02/97 (Deng Xiaoping) Interestingly, the 4 longest gaps have been between the last hit of one year and the first hit of another!
