    Derby Dead Pool 2007

If anyone else picked Les Leston, Hans Ruesch & Jimmy Langley I'll eat my hat. I'm sure there are people that would love to help for free - I'd be one. Even if it was checking spreadsheets or something or helping with data or team info - in other words the donkey work, whilst the computer wizards do all the fangdangly stuff. Either that, or limit it to 500 teams. If nothing else, that would mean entries would be in earlier, which might mean the site would be updated earlier. But see what the boys think. Once it's up, it'll be another fine bit of work. Oh, and CP, Bezzerides is still missing an obit, isn't that right? So, that's 4 we have to look out for? (internet bloke, Smyth, Bezza & Hamilton?) I'd gladly help - I love stats me! On the subject of Smyth, it might be that his death notice maybe in the papers but not on the net. I'm still holding out for an obit (most likely, if at all in the Times/Guardian), but if not on the net, can anyone help by looking at their newspapers from Friday/Saturday. Even dare I say, the Daily Mail/Express. All it needs to be is a little column in the Sports section...thanks! Oh the heady smell of desperation. Smyth was so obscure he has even been removed from Wiki's recent deaths page. Yeah and was me who put him there in the first place! Seriously though, he was the World's first Professional snooker ref after all and officiated the very first Crucible final: that's worthy of any obit, rather than Lord Major Sir Bernard Twatshire or whatever that I have to trawl through...

    The Dead - 2007

Ken Cranston (20.10.17) takes the mantle, and is also England's oldest living Test captain. He is the tenth oldest living Test cricketer, according to this list.. Hate to quote myself, but Ken Cranston's short reign is over after less than a fortnight. Step up Arthur McIntyre (14.05.18). England's oldest Test Captain is dead, long live England's oldest Test Captain! Didn't Michael Vaughan die today of shame?

Why not have a merger between DDP and this site? Deathlist.net virtually incorporates the DDP....

. MIB has chosen someone who IS dead but hasn't got an obit, .....yet! Does that count? I don't think it does. We'll have to wait. Mike Dickins' is in the Independent today.. Here's the Yorkshire Post on the matter..

    David Bowie

One year ago, on the first Weekend of January, there were articles marking the 60th birthday of Rock Legend Syd Barrett. Six Months later, he was dead. One year on, on the first Weekend of January, there are articles marking the 60th birthday of Rock Legend David Bowie.....

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2007

What's the betting it will end up in some art gallery?

    Ken Russell

Another person I've worked with. She half scared me to death at first (very forthright to put it mildly) but she was alright. Better than Jane 'Twunt' Moore anyway. Anyway, here's hoping the first BB death will be when Jade goes in this weekend Yeah, I hate Jane Moore - the definitive tabloid snide...

Ken Cranston (20.10.17) takes the mantle, and is also England's oldest living Test captain. He is the tenth oldest living Test cricketer, according to this list.. Uninteresting trivia. Unlike John 'The Dentist' Maynard, the West Indian fast bowler nicknamed for his ability to remove a batsman's teeth, Ken Cranston actually used to be a dentist. Useful list....

    Derby Dead Pool 2007

My original plan for 2006 was that I would have a shadow Deathlist conforming largely to the unwritten rules of the DL. Namely that the list contains notable names and such. The DDP was to be one more built to win points (unique picks, sick minor celebs etc). I simply didn't have the time last year to do that, do I simply put my top 20 picks from the shadow list into the DDP. This year though I'm able to provide both lists that slightly diverge for the reasons given. So on the DL list, there's no room for the more obscure picks (Smyth, Polanco etc) in the DL. Also the DL acts as a 'safety net' for celebs I had seriously considered for DDP (Bobby Robson, George Blake etc) but decided to leave out. It's a bit of a cheat I suppose, but there you have it. Hope that answers your question...

I think this is going to be the most exciting DDP yet and I'm not saying that because I'm (potentially) doing well. With so many teams and (presumably choices), there's going to be constant scoring. It will be a rollercoaster of a battle. This is the year that the DDP will really kick off...
  22. themaninblack

    Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

He is on my DDP and HDP list That's why he's the Champion...he's the one to beat!

    Derby Dead Pool 2007

well....no one had him last year... Yeah, but he was mentioned a bit. BTW while I'm here; I have discovered Mr Smyth's age - 78. I suspected he was in his 70s. That's 7 points +1 point as a unique pick (unless someone else picked him of course). Depending on the obit of course....
