It's true Windsor, times have definitely changed. It's certainly become a lot more ruthless in recent years. Picks like Grove were a relative rarity in 2007. 2007 was the first year of the present points system, which is now no longer "new". The previous system was a lot stingier in terms of points. I think it was 5 for a hit, a couple of bonuses here and there and reductions in terms of age and so on. Perhaps a revival of such a system is worth considering for the future. It might not remove the more tasteless picks but it may reduce their effectiveness in terms of points to the overall leaderboard. Points awarding for certain picks is probably the most practical way to approach this issue. If I start loading more rules and regulations as to what or what isn't a legitimate pick could became a quagmire which the DDP may not function properly from. The problem is practicalities. The main reason I've steered clear of a revamp of the points system is due to the complex coding (it might not actually be too complex, if I worked out the system, I suppose) when it gets generated into the table of points. I don't have the HTA application that used the old system, only the present one. So if I was to make a radical change to points, I have to be sure that it will produce the right results. The database (and indeed the site itself) is well overdue an upgrade...

No. Then again, even if I did, at least you would still have 19 fairly famous folk on my DDP. Which is more than can be said for the present shower of shite at the top of the leader board. Au contraire... I will admit though when filling in the picks for the Shameless team it was kinda dispiriting...

    Terry Wogan

Wogan's death is not bigger than Bowie. Otherwise I agree with your post. He's one of the three people who I will never pick for my DDP teams (Grace Slick and June Whitfield are the other two). Perhaps I should have picked him, he'd have lasted longer then... Wogan must surely at some point in his radio career have played (and introduced) 'Life on Mars?'...

Dammit he's gone at a tricky time DDP update-wise. I tend to leave it a few days into the next month to get the rest of the previous months stiffs in! I must say Eurovision was always that bit special when the Irish won and Terry was commentating, as ever the professional...

    End Times - The Rapture

So a planet on the outer reaches of the solar system (5 billion miles +) is just going to happen to hit the Earth within one calender year? Well that makes sense to me. What next, the Earth is flat?

    Derby Dead Pool 2016

This is from one of the websites reporting Craig Strickland's death: I shall await official confirmation of the estimated time of his death before I make a final decision. I have sent an email to both teams that picked him telling them of the situation and giving them the option (open until the end of this month) of exchanging selections/joker picks.

Like this one? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/12107492/Worlds-oldest-man-Yasutaro-Koide-dies-in-Japan-aged-112.html Cheers man. I wasn't sure tbh whether those counted Asian pages in UK newspapers are fine. It is only Scottish Newspapers that have been excluded (despite the fact that the Daily Record and Herald combined sell approximately the same number of print copies as the Guardian and the Independent combined) (238,00 as opposed to 246,00) As do Scotland pages, which is why you got your points. Remember...

Looked on Wikipedia (if that's any reliable guide) and that has Strickland as having died on December 27th 2015.

And then there's the Steve Fossett issue. Legally declared dead in February 2008, but it is considered that he died in September 2007. Quote from DDP 2008 (when Octopus of Odstock was in charge):

Hmmm. Maybe I was a bit hasty. However, Alex Higgins was found dead on July 24th 2010 but it is speculated that he might have died some time earlier as he wasn't found for several days, but 24/07/2010 is officially down as his death date. Maybe we need some sort of official confirmation of this?
