African Leaders - Despots and Democratic

For another 27 years, presumably... -
Aye, but ITV have their uses, seriously. On the days when the news is really, depressingly, shit somehow it never seems quite as bad on ITV. Rohit Kachroo can be pretty depressing. If you ever spot him on your manor then get away quick because the apocalypse is round the corner...

Strange how it's from the Daily Mirror yet it references a forecaster talking to the Daily Express! Now that is what I call lazy journalism...

Death Anniversary Thread

Time I stopped the virtual mourning and get my normal avatar back... -
It'll have to wait until next time as I have already updated in the last hour...

Jack Bruce of supergroup Cream has died aged 71...
-
Surely you're not suggesting that he timed his death to help promote his new album? It is a solid marketing strategy. regards, Hein I wasn't suggesting it for a minute, though there's a grim humour in the music industry where death has been known as "the ultimate career move" for years. HMV will be stacking his greatest hits album on display cases as we speak...

Bloody hell - the obits have finally been updated!
-
Cancer has now spread to her ovaries, and she's back in hospital taking pictures this bad. Died in the past 15 minutes. Looks like I have a fun weekend of waiting to see if she obits. In that case I'll hold fire on any updates for a little bit. If she gets the required it could be another late run that does the business again for you!

It's a little weird but not North Korean. You can see one of them though if you look. And he appears to be a....... white male! That gives a lot away! I didn't mean it literally Dr Z unless you didn't mean it literally!
-
Does anyone else think that this is a little bit North Korean? And I can't imagine anyone refusing to go along with it either when asked to volunteer, even though they would be entirely within their rights to for whatever reason, political, practical or otherwise. After all, isn't Remembrance Day about the fight for freedom?

So, 1400 workers at GCHQ, the command centre of Britain's intelligence gathering, put together a little tribute to our armed forces (their employers) by forming a large poppy. Here's an image:

That would have been the pun had she been picked. Oh well, these things happen...

Said astrologer, the woman who Reagan consulted with to ask what the star charts said he should do during the Iran-Contra Scandal, Joan Quigley has died aged 87. *quick look at his team, realised he didn't pick her this year* BOLLOCKS! Another fucking miss! This year's been a disaster (in more ways than one...)

A dangerous mistake if you're - like - 14 years old and back stage. A choice between a paedophile and a born again Christian would actually cause a slight hesitation...

Sorry to learn you've lost your father, LG.

Meh, his equaliser in 67 led to the break in the Latin domination of the Big One, and as being the first out of two british players to score in multiple European Cup Finals.....yep, legend. The other? Phil Neal!
-
He's doing OK but he's not out of the woods yet.

BB King.

Who was he the Dutch equivalent of? Imagine a slightly posh and impeccably dressed stand-up chappie, can't sing, can't dance, whose 'jokes' are mostly puns and who likes to explain them. Think of the "nudge-nudge" character in the Monty Python skit. He had an excuse for being daft: both his parents were Mennonite vicars, but he didn't have to visit that on the public. He was biggish in the 70s and 80s. Me mum liked him. regards, Hein Add a dash of camp and he could pass for Larry Grayson?

The DDP has officially gone bananas! He'll probably get an English language obit eventually...Well done anyway! Never in doubt, although surprisingly the Daily Mail beats both the BBC and The Guardian to the English obit. As we've seen this year on DDP, they'll obit anything!

Yes it does count. Didn't even know he died! Surprised it hasn't been flagged up before...
-
No. I'm a tad surprised she hasn't had an obit from at least one of the mainstream press. She and her husband for better or worse are kind of considered the writers most associated with that troubled era of Doctor Who and the only ones (bar Anthony Steven) who wrote a debut serial for a new Doctor who wasn't the script editor(s) either then, before or afterwards...
