Shouldn't that have been "out of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. for Aretha"? I'll get my coat...
-
Completely unrealistic and unlikely, but *IF* it did happen it'll be right before she plays Australia for the first time in 26 years.

Stairway To Heaven/ Highway To Hell

Def Lepperd cancels the remaining 10 dates of NAmerican tour for health reasons. They are suggesting it's the singer, I call bullshit. Vivian Campbell anyone? SC http://www.defleppard.com/def-leppard-postpones-winter-2016-tour-dates/ Rolling Stone are calling it for Joe Elliott. This sounds about right, especially if his voice was a bit buggered on the Cruise dates. "The doctor basically said that if Joe [Elliott] continues to sing without resting his throat for a month he might do permanent damage," drummer Rick Allen tells fans". -
Very likely to be a tribute for the UK national final, quite possible for something at Eurovision proper as the news of Wogan's death has made the Swedish newspapers. I agree with you regarding the tribute part, though just a nod to Wogan will be enough and a nice touch.

TOGs = Terry's Old Geezers or Terry's Old Gals TYGs = Terry's Young Geezers/Gals

Another proud TYG here and very saddened by this news. "Wogan", "Blankety Blank", Wake Up To Wogan, the very much underrated "Wogan's Web", his contributions to singing (erm...), and of course Eurovision - all essential parts of my childhood and beyond. I do hope there is a little tribute to the Togmeister at this year's Eurovision in Sweden. As a tribute, sit back and remember this sound. RIP Sir Terry.

Better from what he's not even sick. *thinks* Better from old age. Yes, that'll do.

I went for Bhumibol Adulyadej in the end because 1) I am never correct in my guesses and 2) he's on my DDP. I expect him to get better now any day soon.

Update on his website, does not sound good. Update on various sites now even worse - end of "Wonderful Life".

Fleetwood Mac. U2. Madonna (hey, we're all getting older...) Kate Bush's next live extravaganza.

dead Nicholas Parsons

Whilst he looks a bit older than when I last saw him pictured I still still think he looks a few years younger than 92.I think it was wise to leave him off this year.Still working and walking about (albeit with a stick) and has no known health problems or even rumours of any health problems. The reason he looks so much better in the May photo is because he's smiling, and it takes years off him. Maybe it is also the fact he was cold today and shivering in the cold. "Frail" perhaps, but he could easily pass for 20 years younger than his actual age. -
This has to be the BEST Bowie tribute I've seen so far. There's a big part of me which thinks Bowie may have approved. There's also a big part of me which thinks nothing much ever happens in Timaru.

Heretic. -
Colin Vearncome of Black ("Wonderful Life") fame "critically ill" in hospital after car accident.

All I'm reading is that it's an internet hoax. Can't find any legit source confirming death at all. Hopefully it will stay that way. ETA: Guardian obit. Still hope it's a hoax though.

Songs You Can Go The Rest Of Your Life Without Hearing Again
Ra Ra Rasputin replied to Phantom's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Definitely not. When choosing a user pic, it was a toss up between Karen Carpenter and Bobby Farrell though admittedly with a username like mine there wasn't much of a contest. Incidentally, I want to go here on a pilgrimage of sorts. I wouldn't mind a Karen Carpenter bobblehead doll too to put on my fridge. -

Ugh, talk about opening a can of earworms... Many of the songs already mentioned (though whoever it was who put "Wuthering Heights" and songs by Lulu can go bog off right now ), but to add to the list: 1. U2 - "One" - de rigeur for bands to have one of these type of songs; slow, meaningful, ultimately a bit dull and not a patch on earlier, uptempo stuff. See also R.E.M. "Everybody Hurts". Also mandatory to include a similar type song on every subsequent album. 2. Alanis Morissette - "Ironic". I once had access to music only through MTV Europe. This song was played at least three times every single sodding day to the point that now when I hear it, I have to leave the room. Oh, and nothing in the lyrics is ironic in the first place. 3. 4 Non Blondes - "What's Up". Similar situation to #2. 4. Beatles - anything with Ringo singing. Seeing as "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be" have already been mentioned. 5. Boomtown Rats - "I Don't Like Mondays". Overplayed, no more, no less. I'd much rather radios would play "Rat Trap" or "Like Clockwork" instead. I am SO relieved no one has yet mentioned anything by the Carpenters thus unleashing a torrent of abuse from many (unexpected?) quarters. -
Estonian composer Anti Marguste (great name!) has died aged 84. I'm afraid I don't trust my obviously brilliant Estonian language skills to find a suitable obit, but the Wiki page is here.

I'm glad he was able to keep it quiet if that's what he wanted. A fuck you to the corpse chasing media and indirectly to wankers like us. I reckon there's a few dozen would get similar coverage if they died unexpectedly like Bowie: Prince Mick Jagger Jimmy Page Brian May Paul McCartney John Lydon Ringo Starr Bob Geldolf Bono Tina Turner Bob Dylan Bruce Springsteen Surviving Bee Gees Madonna Billy Joel Lars Ulrich Stevie Wonder Lionel Richie Leonard Cohen Bruce Dickinson Elton John Any member of Pink Floyd Roger Taylor (or any member of The Who) Cliff Richard Any member of Abba what about the two greatest artists of all time Roger Waters and David Gilmore of pink Floyd. Joni Mitchell is a name conspicuous by its absence on that list. There was a heck of a lot of coverage about her when she had a stroke. That would be multiplied by at least 10 if she died.

Is it blasphemy to say I prefer Lulu's version of "The Man Who Sold The World"?

He knew a good tune when he heard one. Simple.

*puts on Peter Dutton hat* Have his parents left Australia yet?

I did do that for a spell, but it's a shame to have to block everyone's sig, as some of them are interesting. Please can we have a rule limiting the length of sigs? Teams or long lists of names can either be shown as links or in spoilers. no need I have it sorted out now [16 lines of .signature cut] It's still too long.
