Matt Le Tissier, Charlie Nicholas and Phil Thompson axed from Soccer Saturday, Paul Merson somehow remains. Fair enough, in the past few years they'd gone from sounding like your dad's mates at a golf club social but enjoyable to sounding like your dad's mates at a golf club social.

In fairness, OTV's Daniel Pearce did do the vocals for Sigma's 2014 #1 single "Nobody to Love".

Talk Like A Scotsman/St Andrews Day/Burns nicht

90% of Scottish Wikipedia has been written by a 13-year-old furry from North Carolina who doesn't actually speak any Scottish, thinks it's just English written in a Groundskeeper Willie accent. -
Researching Bond actors and it never fails to make me pause and go "huh" that the woman who played "me so solly" stereotype Ling Soo in It Ain't 'alf Hot Mum's daughter was the lead singer of Lush.

Will be throwing something together this week, the categories do lead to a certain "fuck it they'll do" approach.

On my phone but he’s just tested posted for COVID

Yeah, there go my slim chances of winning the DDP this year. Really wish I knew how I talked myself into thinking he wouldn't QO, he was in fucking Quiet Riot and would have been an idol to loads men in their early 50s who can google shit now.

First person to call out Morrissey for being a racist in a major publication. Wasn't he some sort of minor Nigerian royal who was slumming it in England?

Will this be the second time Tapie's deception costs someone a title?

No but one could be. It's £30 to get a death notice published in The Times. It's too great a temptation.

Buff Bagwell in hospital with "serious injuries" after crashing his car while under the "influence of prescription medication".

Billy Howard is on Facebook and recently updated his profile pic to include a "stay at home" graphic, so I assume he's alive. His daughter is Annabel Williams, the vocal coach who usually takes care of Cowell's hand-picked choices on X-Factor/Britain's Got Talent/etc.

I have no real opinion about her TV shows, and I can grudgingly accept every generation needs a YOOF documentary host who can at least try and widen the minds of the BBC 3 audience, but - Stacey Dooley's voice.
-
Yeah, that one went on the 2021 longlist in pencil because no way does he make the starting line.

Yeah, is Bearer working on two levels here or zero?

Don't have anything insightful or clever to add, but I do want to be the first person to mention bipolar YouTube starlet Caroline Konstnar here.

I don't think this is the current generation's issue, but more so the one that grew up at the turn of the milennium where mistagged MP3 files going around Napster and Soulseek and Kazaa were rewriting musical history. For perhaps the most egregious example of this - and note nearly all these people are in their early 30s - look at this Twitter search.

Even as a kid obsessed with recording everything late-night TV in the mid 90s, The James Whale Show was a step too far. Let's pick a random episode and see what I missed: Caravans and a pre-Conservative MP Louise Mensch, plus lots of women in bras. Fantastic.

I'm pretty sure Ray Othen died 3rd April 2016. Cross-referencing the Top of the Pops Facts Twitter account using the same photo as this Facebook page and the mentions of him working for the Royal Mail. That guy was also Facebook friends with a Bob White from Southampton who looks like it was his old bandmate.

Not really the place for a discussion on the man's career, but Xavier was always one of the more confusing wrestlers in history - the second ROH champion, yet he did fuck all both before and after his run with the strap. Seemingly forgotten by wrestling history for a man who was at one point the ace of the #2 promotion in the USA.

Quiz Time
Spade_Cooley replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Not so much a quiz as my faceblindness absolutely pissing me off. How many celebs from this ITV Telethon 1992 ending can you recognise? I've got: Gary Wilmott Sheila Ferguson Lesley Joseph Tosh Lines Lord Sutch Cynthia Payne Gorden Kaye Nick Cotton Cheryl Baker Michael Aspel Gloria Hunniford I also think it's the classic Chippendales lineup and forgotten TV magician Andrew O'Connor on stage as well? Who else? I'm missing some really obvious ones. -
Films with entirely dead casts

Decided to spend some time seeing if we can track Batten down. The British Army of the Rhine doesn't have a record for him online, but then part of me wonders if it was the British Army of the Rhine he was deserting from, or even if he was a deserter at all. IMDB lists one other credit for him: a "documentary short" called Suddenly the Channel Is Half As Wide, a promotional film for the British Hovercraft Corporation. This and more credits are listed by the BFI under the name PD Batten, where you can see he worked almost entirely in naval or naval-affiliated documentaries and promotional footage. There's a photo taken by a PD Batten on the International War Museum's website, from the Korean War, of a naval inspection. Which makes me wonder if this photo, of a young man called Pete Batten in naval gear taken in 1948, is also our man. That photo was taken in Yeovil, and this obituary for a Margaret Batten - "widow of Peter" - says she lived in Yeovil. How close am I to conclusively proving he's dead? Updated: Royal Naval Photographers Association newsletter containing an obituary for Peter Batten, says he died 2nd March 2005. -
Del Soulcondor, from one of Scotland's first hip-hop acts All Time High, seems to be in rough shape by the looks of his Twitter. The way things are going now I'd doubt a semi-obscure British hip-hop figure would get a QO, so I'm throwing it out there in case you need him for any other pools.
