12 years later, then man in question who received the seal of approval from both Canadian Paul and Osama Bin Laden, William Blum, has died aged 85. He may have come up in some of your recent research due to dialysis issues.

Imagine spending 60 years telling everyone how economics works, and then getting defrauded by a woman who spent your life's fortune on a burial for her Pomeranian.

"Globally known Irish sports star" accused of rape in a Dublin hotel? Daily Mail write-up makes sure we're aware he's capable of violent assault? Hmmm.

Samuel Brittan, former economics editor at The Observer and then a long-time FT columnist, isn't doing too well from what I understand...

Done. Thanks for the reminder, will do this tonight (maybe).

Entries are coming in at a nice speed. Nothing to match the weirdness of last year when Pat Cooper was in two of the first three teams submitted and none of the remaining 500.

Update. Theme team and news etc to update tomorrow.

Alongside radio programmer Monica Sims, Pete Shelley (quick turnaround on that one), colon cancer expert Dr Wendy Atkin (who died of leukaemia) and classical music critic Ivan March.

Yes. Or maybe possibly. I think so, just further down, perhaps as part of a wider catch all "history" with the previous years' archives.

RIP McDonald's advert soundtrack man.

Fuck it, let's try it now. So this is what the website will (probably) look like: http://s760215289.websitehome.co.uk/ The banner needs changing (graphic design isn't a particular skill of mine). And yes, the images in the slider are a little scrappy. But... thoughts? What works/doesn't work?

Confirmed dead, looks like it was his birthday as well. Warning: Dying Can Be Hazardous To Your Health enters the top 10 as a result.

Hey, don't salute me for being a game runner. Salute the real heroes, the multiple-time winners. So I'm just gonna talk aloud my plans for the month here. The site is ported over to new servers. A new site design (for the front page at least) is in progress. It will be a blog design, each death will be its own separate entry rather than doing 8/12 in a batch. Puns will be retained for the most important figures and I think I have a way to do that. I will put up a dummy version of the site here some point in the next 7 days to let you all play with/tell me why it's shit. Email to start the new season goes out around the 10th. Then I need to prep the game station for 2019, which hopefully I can do easily. If not, I'll need to go begging to T-Mib to come back and help me, so please refrain from any jokes about Hillsborough for a month or so. As with recent years, game goes live with new teams at some point in the first two weeks of the year. Hopefully the first week this year, I have time off in January. Blurbs and bios to be added as and when, but as with last year I think I'll assign pics and write the blurbs myself. And then a new gamerunner will be picked.

He was married to a member of 90s Eurodance act Mr President, best known for their smash hit "Coco Jambo".

Just discovered that Kenny Rogers (born 1938) is older than Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (created 1939).

And just for companionship's sake, the first time the cousin of "featuring", "versus", shows up in the charts is November 1990, when MC Tunes Versus 808 State hit us with "The Only Rhyme That Bites".

"Starring Shirley Jones Featuring David Cassidy" definitely has the ring of some major record label contract issues.

So in 1954, "Three Coins In The Fountain" (got to #5 in the hit parade) was credited to The Four Aces featuring Al Alberts. However, Al Albert was previously a member of The Four Aces full-time, and was still a touring member of the band at the point that song was released. So although it's "technically" the first featuring, I dunno if it's in the spirit of the game.

First thing we discovered: so since at least 1998, the DDP website has contained a virus.
