Might set up a side thread for these obits from history. It is worth remembering that some absolutely massive names wouldn't have been DDP hits because they didn't get QOs. There was that New York Times project earlier this year where they covered historical figures who'd never gotten an obit in the newspaper, and some of those overlooked were insane (Charlotte Bronte, Marsha P Johnson, Diane Arbus, Sylvia Plath, Ada Lovelace). Danno O'Mahoney's death did make page 34 of the New York Times in 1950 however:

Last month was apparently the first since July 1995 in which Jushin Liger didn't wrestle at least one match. Considering during that time he's had surgery on a brain tumour, quite a run.
-
Hey, as long as Northampton has Clarence the Dragon and Buddies, we'll be fine.
-
No Times obituaries for The Great Gama, Maurice Tillet, Georg Lurich, Sandor Szabo or Danno O'Mahoney, however.
-
Fun to see which wrestlers did get QO obits back in the day. For instance, here's the February 20, 1968 edition of The Times:

Was going to say that 2006 would have been an easy unique hit for me with John Tenta, but were WWF wrestlers getting QOs back then?

It's been a while, but here's an update. Bells and whistles (lists of lost, missed, news, theme team league) to be sorted out tomorrow.

Tony Bullimore, sailor whose survival at sea for four days in an upturned boat was a major news story back in the day (and saw him forever immortalised in an I'm Alan Patridge gag), dead at 79. -

Claudette Colbert's death happened one night today in 1996. -
[ignoring the fact this was completely the wrong thread for the band] Holy shit, Test Icicles were one of the absolute nadirs of mid-00s indie. Would rather listen to The Paddingtons, Lupen Crook and Milburn at exactly the same time.

According to Meltz, Christopher's bail was set at $40,000 and Jerry Lawler refused to pay it, saying he thought it was time for his son to grow up and face the consequences. Probably his worst decision since putting the CWA title on Wendell Cooley.

Distinct lack of purebred fuckups in Rumbles over the past decade, is it going to be the King (2012 Royal Rumble, a few months before his heart attack) joining up with his son to break the streak? Of note: Jerry Lawler has already bought his funeral plot. He will be buried in the Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery, right next to Isaac Hayes.

That's seven dead from the 2000 Royal Rumble now. Who do we fancy for #8? Gangrel? X-Pac? Bob Backlund?

Long-read on the McDonalds Monopoly fraud operation of the late 90s here reveals that the man behind it, Jerome Jacobson, is currently in "poor health". He is a long-time MS sufferer as well.

Beautiful tribute:

Co-host of Jerry Lawler's podcast also says he's dead, which is as close to 100% confirmation as you need: https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/92v75g/rip_brian_grandmasta_sexy_christopher_lawler/e38m93p/

Bruce Lietzke, DDP pick, loses fight against brain cancer aged 67. Was a member of the US's 81 Ryder Cup-winning team, so an obit should be along asap. -
Two of the key figures in the history of lesbian pulp fiction novels, Marijane Meaker (91, actually a lesbian) and Ann Bannon (85, straight) are still with us.

The slow-down in celebrity deaths sees another "esoteric" selection served up this week: C. H. Gimingham, the world's foremost expert on heather Felicia Langer, Israeli lawyer who supported and defended Palestians Julian Tudor Hart, Communist and heart doctor Anne Olivier Bell, edited Virginia Woolf's diaries Adrian Cronauer, him what Good Morning, Vietnam was based on.

yr sassy bishop from the Harry/Meghan marriage has prostate cancer.

Yeah, they have to be 18 as of January 1st, hence why that guy with terminal cancer who recorded an inspirational US top 100 single aged 17 was never picked.
