Yeah, that's exactly what they need.

Further to earlier upthread discussion about the oldest living professional wrestler, Joe D'Orazio, who was one of Mick McManus's tag partners back in the 50s, is still alive at 93. This forum post says he should be well enough to make a wrestling convention in August of this year, we'll see. Make it 4/6 he gets a Guardian obit when he goes.

I can hardly believe I'm responding to this but since the onion was red and not brown, I'll go with the vagina as the source. If you think an anus can't bleed, you obviously haven't really gotten the most out of the internet. The dude from "One Guy One Jar" for DL 2017? -

I don't quite understand why there response to their music obituary writer dying is to close the entire obit section? I think this is a case of correlation not cause in that the obit section was getting nerfed anyway and he died around the same time. You've not lost the obit because he died, beware of seeking cause where there is only correlation. It's worth noting the obit writers obit is from the 1st March, whereas the last obit on their section is the 26th March No, they closed the obituary section down because the fucking newspaper doesn't actually exist any more.

You people sound like you need this website, which has become indispensable when decided what films the missus can actually watch: https://www.doesthedogdie.com/application/list

So here's a thing.... After emailing The Guardian's obituary editor to ask if they were going to obit Delpech (see upthread), I then emailed The Independent's. He told me they had one on the way. Now, you may have noticed that with the closing of The Indy's print resources, they are no longer running an obituary section. No obit ran in the six weeks between my email and the section's closure. A closer look does reveal an obit, however, of the guy who wrote their music obituaries. This is why there was no QO. I am going to lose the DDP because someone who was never picked by anyone died. A first?

Well, technically 12 days isn't "weeks" plural.

Here we go.... Dave Donovan @davrosz 4h4 hours ago Just heard news that Bob Ellis may be entering his final hours. Sad times. Dave Donovan @davrosz 34m34 minutes ago Bob's slipped badly over the last week. He is slipping in and out of consciousness. He's at home with Anne and children Tom, Jenny and Jack.

According to Spycatcher Mountbatten would have been PM if the 1967 secret-service coup against the Wilson government had gone ahead. Part of the reason it didn't go ahead was Mountbatten's own respect for democracy. A 2006 documentary by the BBC alleged a plot extremely similar took place in 1974-76. There definitely was a military coup plot, confirmed in 1996 against Wilson during one of his terms by the right, but the timing and those involved was never confirmed. I am paraphrasing a well-referenced section of Wikipedia's article on Lord Mountbatten The 1970s plot would have been fantastic as they wanted to install Hughie Green as communications minister iirc.

Death Anniversary Thread

Giorgio Chinaglia died today in 2012. Arguably the greatest Welsh-Italian-American mob affiliate who wanted to play rugby not football in history. The best Chinaglia stories could fill a thread on their own, but special reference must go to him managing to make Pele run out of a dressing room crying and this tale from his apprenticeship at Swansea City: -
