As of 9:36pm GMT, only two deaths recorded for today: a redlinked Russian football manager and a Nigerian gospel singer.

Can we get a clarification on what counts as being "nominated" for a competitive Brit? Do session musicians credited on tracks count or just the "permanent" bandmembers? Do producers count for Best Album noms? And what about film soundtracks - any artist credited?

It was more the lack of interest the committee has had in recent years for the likes of Sarah Harding, Tom Parker, Liam Miller, Pat Smullen etc.

Mary Quant and Chris Rea.

DL deaths born after 1950 and the years in which they became "famous enough for the DL" (obviously there'll be a few years give-or-take here, but the numbers should be roughly accurate no matter how much you want to quibble): Bernie Nolan - 1974 Genesis P-orridge - 1975 Barry Sheene -1976 Tim Gullikson - 1977 Simon MacCorkindale - 1978 Leon Spinks - 1978 Simon Cadell - 1980 Mark E Smith - 1980 Martin Crowe - 1982 Johnny Clegg - 1983 Laurent Fignon - 1983 Patrick Swayze - 1984 Errol Christie - 1985 Helen Rollason - 1988 Gord Downie - 1989 Sam Simon - 1989 Leah Bracknell - 1989 Abdelbaset al-Megrahi - 1991 John Diamond - 1992 Rush Limbaugh - 1993 Joost van der Westhuizen - 1994 Bill Turnbull - 1994 Hugo Chavez - 1999 Irwin became "DL famous"... 2004? So he would be a big outlier, with only Chavez (a political, rather than pop cultural, figure) coming within a decade of his celebrity.

Death announced (by Richard Keys, of all people) of Richard Shepherd, head chef and eventual owner (after buying out Michael Caine) of Langan's Brasserie in Mayfair.

Best time of the year this. Are these double-crosses posted to the forum? Triple-crosses? Quadruple-crosses? Or new earnestness single-crosses?

Bea Arthur fucking despised Betty White.

There's a "Tracy Kashi of 2023" name out there that I'm staying well clear of for next year's DDP.
-
A thread for everyone's DDP joker in 2021, 31-year-old boybander Tom Parker and his inoperable brain tumour.
-
Obscure fact about James Martin only his most die-hard fans know: he's from Yorkshire.
-
Big if true, could have revolutionary implications for deadpooling.
-
The image of Butch Miller in the DDP database is for the NASCAR driver, not the former WWF wrestler it's linked with.

Advent Avalanche Form Guide #2: Epic Llloyd That guy from "you found it funny when you were 15 don't pretend you didn't" YouTube channel Epic Rap Battles of History has been making this exact same face in every single video for over a decade now. Assuming it's constipation, he must have 10 years' worth of impacted fecal matter inside his colon right now, not a viable situation for continued living.

For a probable "death mentioned on the News at Ten" name in their 90s, there's very little mention about Bridget Riley in this board's history. Does she feel DL-y to you?
-
Had Mark Potter down on my 2023 longlist, but wasn't sure if "lost to Michael Sprott and Danny Williams" was enough for a QO. It was thanks to the Daily Express.

Hopes to be touring again next year.

How's Your 2023 Shortlist Looking?
Spade_Cooley replied to msc's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Long list of around 80 at the moment, but this year's intake feels very... lot of gristle and not much meat. Either the illnesses aren't guaranteed 12-month killers or we're getting into the awkward area of Yahoo loopholes for QOs, which I never want to rely on. Don't think the 2023 champion will have 150+ points (but then I say that every year). -
Ned Rorem.... does not give anyone the silver medal. (and congrats Rover obviously. One day I'll get to unleash my categories in this thing...)

Michael Gerson, former speechwriter for George W. Bush who (claimed to have) come up with the terms "Axis of evil" and "soft bigotry of low expectations", among others, dead at 58. Had been fighting liver cancer for over a decade.
