A year ago, 4 major world leaders were in the hospital: Chavez, Thatcher, Mandela, and Bush. Now Bush is the only one, still living. Should definitely, be on the 2014 DL.

Happy 92nd Birthday, Nancy!

Hollywood actress Esther Williams has died at 91.

Most of those girls were probably born when George HW Bush was President. Anyways I think he looked fairly frail at his son's library opening, he spoke for only like 30 seconds and his voice was a bit shaky. I also noticed the shakiness in his voice. It also seemed that he was short of breath, or having trouble catching his breath. Medical professionals who were interviewed during his hospitalization, stated that they believe that his respiratory system is slowly declining as the Parkinson's Disease advances. Many of the Parkinson's and Alzheimers patients, eventually die as the result of pneumonia (direct cause of Ronald Reagan's death, after 10 years of Alzheimer's Disease). If not pneumonia, respiratory failure, or in Parkinson's, urinary tract infections (caused by being in wheelchairs or bed, long-term). My instincts tell me that Bush's lungs are slowly giving out as Parkinson's affects his diaphram. I was a bit surprised that he made it to GWB's library dedication, frankly even more surprised that he didn't pass away during his time in the hospital; especially after he was moved to ICU. He is after all, almost 89 years old. However, being very wealthy and a former president, he gets the best of medical care, in terms of the latest advances in technology. That being said, though, I feel the dedication was probably his last public appearance and it wouldn't surprise me any day if he returned to the hospital with more respiratory problems. That could very well be his last time in the hospital.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/17/patti-davis-nancy-reagan-gay-marriage_n_3100166.html According to her daughter, Nancy has "come out".....

For a man who turns 90, next month, he seems to still be getting around well. To make an overseas trip for Thatcher's funeral? The old boy might be around a while longer.

GBS has died. Billy next, I hope. It's a big blow to BG, bound to accelerate his decline.

So thin and gaunt, he looks like death warmed over......

Looking frail indeed, but still keeps pushing on...... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2282707/Nancy-Reagan-wraps-Republican-red-outing-Beverly-Hills.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

Doesn't look like Nancy is going to make it to 102nd Birthday celebration, tomorrow. http://www.vcstar.com/news/2013/feb/04/rudy-giuliani-is-featured-speaker-for-ronald/

First update in over a week. Details are vague........ http://www.dallasnews.com/news/local-news/20130107-ex-president-george-h.w.-bush-still-recovering-no-timetable-for-release-from-hospital.ece

http://wkzo.com/news/articles/2013/jan/04/catch-it-george-hw-bush-and-hilary-clinton-medical-matters-explained/ Interesting analysis from a doctor, regarding the condition of HW and Hillary. Listening to the medical opinion, the outlook does not sound too favorable for 41. Add that to the fact that a google search has turned up no new reports on his condition, since before New Year's....
-
Don't count 41 out just yet. While he has been moved out of ICU, he is still an 88 year old wheelchair patient, who has been in the hospital over a month. Most likely, he will remain in the hospital, well into the New Year. This could well be another case similiar to Gerald Ford, in 2006. Ford was in and out of the hospital multiple times (with issues similiar to Bush), before dying quietly at home. Even if Bush returns home, I have a feeling it will be something like hospice care. He will definitely be on my 2013 Deathlist and this site should still consider making him one of the 50. I don't know about the top 10, but maybe somewhere between #20 and 30.

May be reading between the lines, but this doesn't sound very good, at first glance..... http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=george%20hw%20bush&source=newssearch&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CC0QqQIoADAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fabclocal.go.com%2Fktrk%2Fstory%3Fsection%3Dnews%2Flocal%26id%3D8929522&ei=kXXWUMipF4OgqgHh1ICYBg&usg=AFQjCNEsUfttXxjHQstRr6mSuHSV6MM85A&bvm=bv.1355534169,d.aWM

Bob Dole obviously was very sick and frail, during his recent visit to the Senate floor. The photos showed him slumped in his wheelchair, barely able to hold his head up. In addition to the Senate voting down the disabiltiy treaty, which he supported, Dole's old friends and colleagues have been passing from the scene with frequency, as of late. Former Senator George McGovern in October and just this week two more: Hawaii Senator Daniel Inouye and Judge Robert Bork today (As Senate Republican leader, Dole strongly backed Bork's failed 1987 Supreme Court nomination). McGovern and Inouye were fellow WWII vets and Inouye and Dole became friends while recovering in the same hospital, from their war-related injuries.

If those photos are accurate, Nancy is obviously declining rapidly. Failing eyesight, multiple falls, and now wheelchair-bound.

George HW Bush is now in his 4th week of hospitalization (26 days now). For something like a bronchitis-related cough, the stay is often much shorter, even for a wealthy elderly celebrity. My guess is that it something much more serious such as pneumonia as a complication of his Parkinson's Disease, mild stroke or multiple mild strokes, or something more serious: lung cancer. I don't know much about his smoking history. However, I do bring up LC because his father died of the disease in 1972. So there could be a genetic connection there. Either way, assuming he makes it 11 more days, Bush should be on the 2013 DL.

The woman looks so frail and thin. She can barely walk baby steps with a cane and someone helping her. I could see a broken hip in the near future and that being the end of her.
-
I would still advise the DL to keep him on for next year. Two to three years is the average survivial rate for an LVAD patient. While he appears active and engaging in his interviews and book tour, he still looks frail and I could picture something like a major stroke (often a complication with LVAD heart devices) or pneumonia setting in at some point.

http://www.myfoxny.com/dpps/entertainment/...830-fc_14784161 Looks like HW & Barbara didn't make it to the Lauren Lauren wedding. Possibly health reasons preventing their attendance. Not really good..............

Here are 2 recent articles/interviews with updates on his health. Seems he has indeed gotten very frail at 87 and uses a wheelchair and scooter. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=...lACrgQAkv38JUqg http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=...1S66Z63e72OrOSg

Chicago, I enjoy reading your observations about Presidents and First Ladies. Look in the Nancy Reagan thread and I am curious to know what you think about my speculation, regarding George HW & Barbara Bush.
