Sort of mutual assured destruction. We've never had someone so mendacious as PM before (and lord knows, some of his successors have given it a really good shot!) so yeah, possibly.
-
He is in fact a unique hit for Breathless in Seattle, which is remarkably good picking as it was actually the first time the darts player had been picked for the DDP since 2016!
-
Oh it was utterly fictional, of course. Regarding changing First Past the Post, this often gets mooted during Tory government. Then Labour ousts them with a majority Labour government and suddenly aren't so keen on the idea! (They may find a bigger appetite for it as a minority government but I still think there's a few years till the next election unless proven otherwise!) What Boris Johnson has done is seemingly unite the DL forum - I've never seen so much agreement on a political subject from all sides of the political spectrum on here! All it needed was pure contempt for a man!

Ah IDS lost in October but held on until early November when Michael Howard was anointed successor. I should have Googled that. So yes, Boris Johnson remains Tory leader until his successor is named, and if this lot avoid a full on bitch fight I will be stunned. But again, no idea if the PM can call an election in those circumstances.

Even if Boris Johnson lost tonight (best bet imo is he wins but with hobbled authority ala May), he is still Prime Minister until he can hand the job to another person, like Brown, Cameron, May etc. Even if he is no longer leader of the Tory party from that moment on (and I'm fuzzy on the exact bit for the Tories, iirc IDS was gone instantly from losing the vote). If he lost the Tory leadership, but was still PM, I think there's nothing in the rules preventing him attempting to call an election, unless the Queen says no. (Though what with her Stage IV cancer, do you think she wants to die under a Boris Johnson premiership? Nah!) Its untested waters though as no one has lost a confidence vote and called an election to try and save their job before. We've had elections because *governments* lose votes of confidence, but never (afaik) for an individual PM. His former aides say Boris Johnson would need removed kicking and screaming and now I have images of him losing an immediate election, and refusing to leave Downing Street until the Queen sends the army in to drag him out on live TV. Just a passing daydream...

Well, yes, remember getting rid of Boris means getting rid of Dorries, Rees-Mogg, probably Patel, and others too.

Read 3 1/2 of those. Read a few Atwood books, not one of my favourites by any means though. Read Schindler when I was at school. Grim. Read a collection of Munro's work when Spade picked her in the DDP and I saw it in the library - none of it sticks in my mind after 10 or so years. And I did try to read one of Rushdie's books. A right cure for insomnia. I'm amazed enough people ever got past the first paragraph to read anything worth putting a fatwa out for tbh.

Apparently Boris Johnson has had his weekly phone call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. "It's important even in moments of high stress like this that you take a moment out of your day to reassure someone in a much worse situation than yourself", said the Ukrainian President.

I think he's hobbled either way now. Thatcher had a vast majority, ten years in office and 10% of the vote for that no name in 1989 was the beginning of the end. Major was hobbled from the moment he had his, May was fecked. This is an event horizon event for a Prime Minister. If they back him, it may well be one for the Tory party in government.

(Return Of) The Celebrity Split List

Yes, apparently he was cheating on Shakira. The daft idiot. -
Worth noting that he was trending on Twitter last night from the number of people going "man, he looks frail". So it was just folk on here who thought he looked ill (and he did). You could sense a hundred DDP teams scribbling his name in for next year.

Missed this post at the time but Colin Cantwell got a brief reference on the latest edition of Last Word, hence my finding this post via search!
-
Yeah he couldn't speak without the voice box in that documentary. The voice isn't coming back. He's clearly a hardy soul to still be around, but he wont get close to 70 imo.

Yes. It's called old age.

Melanie Pillman, widow of the late great pro-wrestler Brian Pillman, and mother of the imaginatively named Brian Pillman Jr, has died. Not a surprise to anyone who saw her on Dark Side of the Ring recently, her own battle with vices and demons was meant to have dwarfed her husbands. Also famous for being interviewed on live TV the night after Brian Pillman (sr) died, in one of the top 1000 tasteless publicity acts Vince McMahon has done.

From today, celebrating the Jubilee.

This reminds me of one of The Onion's all time classics ( @Joey Russ this one is from before you were born, fecking hell): Fun Toy Banned Because Of Three Stupid Dead Kids (theonion.com)

Some people just feel like future 8 time plus front pagers for death list. She is one of those!

If Elton, Ozzy or Iggy see 80, I'll shake their hand in disbelief. By shake their hand, read: have a whisky in celebration* and go "nice one" in the comfort of my own living room with them none the wiser. *I'd have the whisky anyway, tbh.

It's no half-term north of the border. (Although, I'll be working from home with a chatterbox asking 10000 questions, so swings and roundabouts!)
-
Annoying if they do delay it - announcing Boris Johnson was facing a Vote of Confidence is the sort of Jubilee present the Queen and the plebs can unite in enjoying!
-
Yes, I did spot that, but also the rules only allow for 21 teams iirc and I don't want GuyfromFuture to miss out because of it. So it goes.
-
Sure, pretty decent villain back in the day. Pity the Geidt. No, sorry, Gelth. But as effective.
-
Oh no, fully understandable. I just think under the recent map though that if labour won Carlisle next time, it'd be a scenario they were pushing for an overall majority.
