    Bernard Cribbins

Ah lovely. I am very fond of Cribbins, to the point of happily allowing everyone else on the list to be a hit over him if need be. May he live much longer and happily.

80 next year - someone should take a punt, imo. Anyhow, I have a feeling 2022 might be a bit like 2017. "Look at all these A listers aged 88 or above!" (few months later) "Where the fuck did they all go?" Add to that a high scoring and varied DDP, and maybe an experimental/promising DL 50 because the Cmme got fucked off with the teams performance the year before... Less Bowie/George Michael, more lots of "aww, I really liked that character actor/kids author/80s rocker" losses.

I've got some Scottish Second Sight coming here... Gooseberry Crumble will say: "This reminds me of the big deaths at the end of 2015 after a quiet few months. 2016 was next. So 2022 is going to be such an enema the whole world will be covered in shite..."

It would be more useful if his blog was updated on the 31st, not the 1st. Cue his 1st January "Out of the blue, I am now fucked" blog.

Am glad fuck all people picked him for The Crowdsourced Deathlist.

    Derby Dead Pool 2022

Many of the teams designed to amuse the creators are often more interesting than the "competitive" ones. I often cite the Crumbles and Hits of 36 Years Ago as examples, because my memory is shite, but yeah, not wasteful at all.

    John Madden

I forget you're a young one. Those games were everywhere in the 90s. Anyhow - only 85, seemingly died unexpectedly - can't expect the Cmme to be clairvoyant.

Just because he's 85 next year (so why not) I did want to pick Otto Pfister for my DDP oldies team. Also, because his name makes Mrs msc laugh anytime I mention it. But there's no space. So I'll just mention him here. Also, I guess its time to carry on an old tradition. The Curse of Pan Breed, Resume: 2021 - Yoo Sang-Chul, Lars Hogh 2020 - Lee Kerslake 2019 - Philomena Lynott, Steffan Lewis, Carl Piddington 2018 - Colin Butts, Simon Ricketts 2017 - Keith Farnham 2016 - Caroline Aherne, Asa Briggs 2015 - Chris Woodhead, George Cole 2014 - Derek Martinus, Sandy Jardine, Jaruzelski 2013 - Glafcos Clerides, Ronald Coase Who will join the list of picks dropped by myself only to snuff it the next year? Officially being dropped for 2022* Tom Smith Gavin Robertson Alan Dean Foster Necro Butcher Miguel van Damme Tom Parker I humbly apologise to all and any fans of the above. *I may revert this if any of them announce hospice care in the next 50 hours...

    Alt Obituaries Deadpool

I decided to re-enter this one. 4 rejections first go around, all replaced without fuss. Of those four, two were "chance it and see" picks, one could have gone either way, and the fourth was a surprise I wont name yet as they are one of my DDP picks! They were good enough to explain why they turned down the pick though - fame reasons.

Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Popular crime fiction novelist (and attorney) Andrew Vachss has died aged 79 according to his website and friends. Beyond his books, which are regular finds in the library, he did a lot of good for improving US child care in the legal system. Also, his mugshot (aided by injuries trying to stop the food blockage to Biafra in the 60s!) was one of the more stand out among writers.

Yes, I put in ages of research into that pick to work out if it was acceptable or not. The pains of being fair in judgement! Reminded me of the time the WWE got banned from a Christian Centre for shows because Mick Foley swore during the show. "You were the last person we expected any trouble from!" laughed Vince McMahon to him afterwards!

I mean, I have an interest in history and political history and had no idea de Gaulle had a living son until he was mentioned on here a year or two ago.

For clarifying example as way of agreement, let me bring up Spade's 2021 team, and two picks in particular. Firstly, Gary Player's wife, as interesting as she was to gossip pages due to being Mrs Player, was still deemed to have little actual notability in her own right, so DQ'd. And replaced by a musician. Secondly, however, the case of Zoe Davison, who was banned and then unbanned. At first, she seemed a "mother of the vaguely famous" pick. But then Spade pointed us in the direct of evidence for her actual fame (references to horses she had trained and being cited in the Racing Post as being the owner of various winners from the previous year alone for example) and we accepted that, even if we hadn't heard of her, she clearly had some notability within her field. And then she died and got obits from all the major news sources in the UK pretty much instantly. But I'm sure most deadpoolers have someone like that on their shortlist - obscure but notable. Because notable but maybe obscure can provide interest. A few years ago Reptile picked an award winning women's Gaelic football coach. I didn't even know Ireland had women's Gaelic football, let alone award ceremonies for it! That was interesting. The old submarine commodore who was Britain's scrabble champion and had an OBE for childrens charity work? That's interesting. The British wine expert who was crowned the best in Europe shortly before coming down with cancer? That's an interesting story. Jordan's mum is not. The big flaw in citing Bill Gates's dad is that he died in 2020, before the FFBI bar came in.

    DL Dead Pools

It is in fact this thread and I feel Post 2 on Page 1 is still relatively helpful for everyone. It covers the main ones - there are of course lots of other ones popping up here and there. In short - Deathrace - 30th. midnight Alt Obits - 31st, time I forget DDP, DbN, Hares - all 31st. Hartlepool - 31st, I think?

Treacher has felt DLy for years (hell, they had his missus in 2009) and was wheelchair bound and frail, so yeah, good shout. Peter Dean feels destined to be one of these people on the List of the Missed one year and some newbie goes "Oh why did the DL miss them?" only for 5 people to go "Because he keeled over on his fucking allotment you utter Nicholas Witchell!" Or words like that.

    How’s Your 2022 Shortlist going?

Me: Damn it, my shortlist is falling to bits and I can't find replacements. Mrs MSC: Don't worry about it, after all, aren't your deadpool teams always shite anyway? Quick confidence boost on the touchline there!

Yeah, same. December ending as the last few months started - wipeout of the shortlist.
