    Reality TV

To quote Christopher Lee when asked about appearing in some dross, "Money, dear boy!" Although it reminds me of June Brown, who once noted that for all the praise she got for her stage work in the 1970s, "slumming her talents away in Eastenders" as some put it is what ended for good her money worries!

Incidentally, Mr Michael's wife is responsible for one of the stupidest comments I've ever heard on that show when she said she didn't want treated by nurses if she went to hospital as "nurses have never saved anyone's life, only doctors can" and her own kids looked at her like she was a daft sod.

12.04 exact, thanks to time stamps on this forum. (I legit thought I'd break the news and suddenly, Thatcher beat me by seconds, but I digress...) And yes, completely staged. (And yes, given most of them still work actual jobs and it was a Friday lunch time when Philip was announced!)

    Reality TV

They don't actually (well, more than anyone else) - it's all filmed on the one day, with changes of clothes to make it look "as live". And iirc if its a film, they only show them the segments they want a reaction off of. But yeah, there's a number of them I'd have assumed would have gone earlier based on basic health. The Tapper dad (who had Covid iirc) and the Siddiqui's dad (who is in his late 70s, retired, and aged considerably last time I watched the show) for two.

    The Dead of 2021

I maintain that when it comes to DL the longer the "drought" the heavier the rainfall. Theory borne out by following DL for about fourteen years now! Oh and we're going to have a lot more surprise drop 40 names this decade due to the slower cancer detection during covid.

    Dead Drummers

He suffered a massive stroke in late 2019 and has since outlived a seemingly healthier band mate. He's done very well to still be around.

Google limited to the last month news recently tried to give me the hot tip that Etta James was no well. You heard it here first! This happens a lot with Google.
  9. In terms of predictions, hopefully the Motorhead dominos one is equally shite then.

    Boxing Clever?

Had been shortlisted for my "bung 'em on the DDP" side project team, and had I known one of the chosen 20 had actually died a decade ago (still cursing that fanzine) there's been a number of far better choices that made the final 30 who would have been better DDP picks. Like this one.

70/250 Looking forward to @arghton's table update tbh...

    Derby Dead Pool 2021

I mean, we all mock Diana Rots teams but then pretty much everyone goes "Hmm, nice unique you've got there, mate" and immediately shortlists them. I may have once nicked DDT's joker the following year, but tbf if someone does keep going on about how great a pick is you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth.

    Dave Davies

He looks better than he did a few months ago tbh. They both look like old men now, but then, that's better than the alternative.
  14. I've always felt it important to acknowledge the relatively decent Tories in parliament (Tobias Ellwood and Charles Walker are two other examples) for two reasons. One, because it reminds me to judge folk by their actions and not solely by their party choice (after all, we all know complete cunts who've been elected for Labour, SNP, Lib Dems, etc.) Second, because it also serves as a reminder that Boris Johnson, Priti Patel etc choose to act the way they do. It's not just being a Tory, they actively go further into the realms of the corrupt and incompetent.

Thanks. Yeah AFAIK there was only one prisoner that age in the UK. List of the lost.

    Ideas and possibilities 2022

So, yeah, apparently Colin Baker's health has been up and down since his hospital stay in 2018 (not helped by a cockup discharging him only to be rushed back into hospital hours later), to the point of being frail when not performing, and Big Finish audio fans have been noting how he's slurring his lines on his most recent audio plays. (Which is quite sad as Colin Baker's enunciation was always one of the things he prided himself on.) It's not terminally ill, and given he clearly still has good enough periods of health to be still working, I don't think he's going *quite yet*. However, fair's fair, there was some smoke to that poster's suggestion and I was wrong to rubbish it out right.

As he's a DDP pick, didn't someone on here discover evidence Clarke died off radar? Sure I recall reading that at the start of the year but now can't find it?

    Tom Smith

Oh famous last words but I think the Cmme have done a smart thing dropping him this year. But the juries out for 2022 now...

    Tom Smith

OK, so for those of you not following the Tom Smith story in 2021, a quick resume. As noted in January by Crem, he started the year with good news. In March he was interviewed by the Times, where he told them he needed chemo every fortnight to keep the cancer at bay, as his cancer is currently wrapped around an important blood vessel and therefore surgery was risky and to be avoided unless urgently necessary life or death stuff. A few weeks ago, the Times spoke to Matt Dawson and I didn't really pay attention until now to the note near the bottom of the article that Tom Smith had that surgery in July and is off chemo until the end of August as a result. Hmm. Watch this space for grimmer updates in the near future then.

    The English Language

Reminds me of one of my favourite one liners by Jerry Lawler: "On commentary, never use a big word when a diminutive one will do!"

Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Was going to say she was one of the greats for kids of the 80s/90s but apparently Worst Witch came out in 1974! I didn't realise it was as old as that. But yeah, one of the giants of modern age kids writers.

Thought this was the Ipswich killer tbh. Seen above. Hmm. Did that Liane Smith die in the end? She was everywhere in the news about ten years ago.

    The Deathlist Poker Tournament 2021

Hmm, a Labour Deputy PM in the early 00s for 6 years who was quite left wing and had a habit of making comment on things the government weren't keen on, I think that Prescott comparison is probably more accurate than expected! Alas, nowt for "Sir Michael Cullen punches gobshite protester"...

Not when you write all the obits hah. I now refer to a six month period as "7 Gooseberry Crumble hits"!
