  1. Your teams are always a welcome addtion to the DDP, but take care of yourself first and foremost.

    DL Dead Pools

I think Grim's learnt from bitter experience about this one now! On the contrary to the stealing, I remember you once asked me permission to use a pick you thought inspired from my Deathrace team for another pool as they were on my DDP team too, despite the fact they were on about a dozen other teams or so! (If memory serves, which it usually doesn't, it was Ronald Coase who went on to spite both of us by casually living into the next year and all!) Putting the Cup team in first stopped temptation should it have arisen, but I did often find out about folk being gravely ill from them appearing on last minute Cup teams - Ray Wilkins for example.

    Bernard Cribbins

NOT DEAD! (Although him trendng on twitter has given folk a few heart attacks, I see...) National treasure (words I never use normally) Bernard Cribbins is 92 today. Here's the BBC tribute to 60+ year of kids entertaining...

  6. DDP - Mediocre but then I did think it was sporting to split the team into two only to see i was the only one to do that. Back to my usual hard earned mediocrity next year instead. Alt Obits - 10th, 6th, 7th, 5th - can't say I'm not consistent at least! MMMDP - Can't remember. Pretty sure I didn't win though. Windy 2019-20 - Finished 3rd behind DI and Reptile Cup - Surprised to beat Sir Creep. Then took on DI and was surprisingly competitive until a last minute finisher. So it was Brock Lesnar/Balor instead of Brock Lesnar/Ricochet... Not very good at my own invention! Deathrace - Didn't win. Got 1400 points but was clearly off the pace. Poker - Forgot some good picks, lingering behind DI again. Hares - tbh I just pick old A listers so 10/25 is quite impressive. DbN - 3rd or close to it, but lingering behind... Death Impends! So the story is "done decently well but not as well as DI" for pretty much all of the above!

    Who are the immortals?

Everyone's favourite seemingly immortal Greek* Mikis T hasn't been as active this year, likely due to the whole pandemic thing. He did produce an open letter defending Greek artists in April, and he was awarded a medal by the Russian embassy in May. But then given last year he went from a heart attack to addressing a protest within weeks... *now Glezos, his competiton, snuffed it.

Awaiting the last chance saloon that is the BBC News site's round up of "people we lost in 2020".

    Lars Ulrich

PROS - The Cmme thought Metallica were famous enough for DL contention should the need arise. CONS - They'd never heard of Cliff Burton.

    Derby Dead Pool 2021

Other types of picks that don't get by: Cancer mums People dying who got married Tragic young people dying People who are dying and got their last wish granted People who are dying and have raised less than a million for charity People who are dying and raining a lot of money for their own treatment but are without fame for any other reason

    Derby Dead Pool 2021

    1. Are they notable for anything other than being ill, at least at a local level? GOOD TO GO. 2. If not, they mostly notable for being ill? GO TO QUESTION 4 3. Are they not notable at all? REJECT 4. Have they achieved anything of note in spite of their illness? (ie did they raise shitloads for charity ala Jane Tomlinson, or now work for the BBC ala Deborah James, or got an OBE for their work ala Kate Granger). OK FOR NOW 5. Have they failed Questions 1, 3 and or 4, and thus aren’t in the slightest bit famous, even in some godforsaken heap like Detroit or Glasgow? REJECT 6. Are they known solely for articles in The Mirror or the Sun or what not saying “Terminally ill young mother faces final Christmas” or words to that extent? GONNAE NO DO THAT. This is what I'll use to chuck picks out or not. Also if your pick has an imdb with credts or new stories about them going back 2 decades they'll probably slip through because I'm focused on axing category 6 above. I believe that answers your question.

    Derby Dead Pool 2021

Only if they have some fame (or infamy!) of their own. If you are asking about Maria's Mum, she was in that godawful sounding reality TV show so is sadly an OK pick. Whereas no one had heard of Carol McGiffin's sister before she became terminally ill. Hell, not sure anyone had heard of Carol McGiffin either tbh...

    British Science Fiction Series

Twitter reporting Philip Martin has gone and bloody died now. Doctor Who but a drop in the ocean in his CV. Gangsters is ace. First series is sort of a prototype Bodyguard/Line of Duty style thing. Second series goes batshit with the fourth wall and genres and has Philip Martin showing up playing himself!

If I wind up 10 years old again at any point in 2020 it'll be a hell of a shock! (I know what you mean...)

    Aerospace and Astronomy

Clouds obscured it about a minute after I posted. I just saw it out of the corner of my eye (we have big tenement windows) and had to tilt my head right up to see it. Going by your chart it was about.. Cepheus height? But thats as usual reliant on the naked eye's perspective from a non-astronomer. Anyhow it was cool now I'm not 10 and assuming any light in the sky is a dinosaur killing sized asteroid about to hit Glasgow!

    Aerospace and Astronomy

Star or the like very visible high in the sky over Glasgow. Almost as high as the horizon line limit. Mentioning this for Cat when he's around, last time iirc this turned out to be Venus. Or Jupiter? Only a zillion miles in that one...

Well, that's fucking awful. Brodie/Luke Harper was an awesome big man and looked destined for big things in AEW. Legit saddened by this.

    Ideas and Possibilities for 2021

Longterm DDP-holics of the forum will be aware of my long running trend: dropping people who swiftly die the next year. The Curse of Pan Breed, Resume: 2020 - Lee Kerslake 2019 - Philomena Lynott, Steffan Lewis, Carl Piddington 2018 - Colin Butts, Simon Ricketts 2017 - Keith Farnham 2016 - Caroline Aherne, Asa Briggs 2015 - Chris Woodhead, George Cole 2014 - Derek Martinus, Sandy Jardine, Jaruzelski 2013 - Glafcos Clerides, Ronald Coase So, Merry Christmas, the following eight people will be dropped by Pan Breed in 2021: Hamish Barbour - will QO due to wife, passes fame bar due to BBC4 work, seems a lingerer but who knows with Stage IV cancer? Bernadette Chirac - still old and frail but got tired with her, went for new names Lars Hogh - keeps getting pancreatic cancer, will have final downturn at some point, gambling on it not being 2021. Peter Schjeldahl - Was a punt pick. Vic Seixas - housebound seems less unique than it did in January... Gianluca Vialli Jean Louis Trintignant - Bored with this pick. Probably doomed him Yoo Sang-Chul - OK, he didn't have the type of Stage IV pancreatic cancer that kills you inside a year. I have gambled he has the Johnny Clegg style which would see him die in 2022. If he has the "18 months average" type, which is *equally* possible right now, then this is a bit of a fuck up. Previous attempts at this (Lewis, Jardine) have fucked up, proof deadpoolers never learn.
