    Carlos Menem

I was going to say that'll be in my head all weekend now, but *Googling* Menem Muppets immediately brings up as the first result... Well, that's my 2021 DDP obit should he make it sorted now...

    You Write The Headlines . . .

As they're all archived you can probably pinpoint the exact moment I started to regret my plan to give every DDP hit a pun headline...

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

13 days, 12 hours and 51 minutes left of the year, and the era of the FFBI picks being allowed in the DDP. A minor addition to the overall frenzy of Deadpooler's Christmas...

    Reality TV

Yep, wont be the only one to have the "Fatima Ali of 2021" shortlisted. More like the "Piers Sellers of 2016" now...

    Shane MacGowan

Ozzy probably doesn't have much longer left in general. Shane could go tomorrow or when he's 70 like Lemmy. He and Gazza will go at some point this decade, its narrowing down the exact year...

    Pope Francis

On Page 1 I made a crack about this being a long term appointment. If Francis lives to January 24th (and I assume he will unless Gooseberry's got Christmas plans...) he'll overtake Benedict's reign in days! This doesn't get either in even the top 50 longest reigning Popes, although Francis is currently the 14th oldest Pope to ever live, and Benny the "second oldest" (ie actual oldest). I say 2nd, they consider Pope Agatho the longest lived at 104, despite the fact no records exist of the guys life until he became Pope in the 670s. As believable as those 150 year old claimants who show up...

    23. Julie Goodyear

tbh there is a whole segment on Julie Goodyear in the documentary but no her, as Crem and co mentioned. However, OK magazine said she recorded for a different documentary entirely: Queens of the Street. Which I cba sitting through but which imdb claims she missed too after being announced for it. Read as much or as little into that as you'd like!

Bolded were the audible FFS misses, but no doubt there were more. Mind you, my video last year was an hour long and I forgot Bruno Ganz, so glasshouses, stones, etc...

    Deadpool Detective Work

Yeah that's as far as I got but we're missing that one bit of info that solves the case. Like Columbo before the 2nd to last ad break. This is the husband, as he lived at the same address (until 2011? hmm). Alive and living in Bearsden.

    Deadpool Detective Work

Here's a cautionary tale about double checking your research. Mary Marquis, a once familiar face on Scottish TV, was picked by Willz this year but her DOB was unspecific and the claimed "1937" might have felt unrealistic for someone starting in TV in the 1950s. Scotland's People have a record for a Mary Elizabeth Marquis born in 1924, which would make her 31 at Granada. And a slapdash researcher would go, combined with that gut feeling, "yep, that's her". But, wait, this Mary Elizabeth Marquis may share her name, but this one died in 2018. What's more, a search for our Ms Marquis's business work confirms a legally registered birth date as March 1937 and a current address in Bearsden. So she did start on TV - as an announcer - aged 18 soon after leaving school. Her 1937 DOB doesn't show up on Scotland's People but then neither does her wedding certificate, which the Daily Record give a clue to by noting she commuted to Carlisle to romance Jack back in the day ie its possibly not a Scottish record! But BMD records don't bring up a 1962 wedding for her and Jack Anderson either. The Glasgow records do however bring up her 1964 born son. So yes, this didn't produce an exact DOB as I assumed it would, but is presumably worth posting to remind folk not to take "interesting info" at face value.

    The World of the Snowflake

Note for fairness I've edited the word "student" for "teacher" in the Rod Liddle bit above to a correct a typo due to having a useless brain. Trust it to screw up the one word that changes the tone!

    Derby Dead Pool 2021

About a decade ago I had an idea for a theme team but decided not to enter it. A few times since I have considered it but not found room for them. This year I lost a few big hitters for it, so the most msc ever theme team (an actual theme team, not a bit of meta-pretentiousness) is submitted for 2021 at long last. Includes an A list name me and Grim are both shocked has never been picked for the DDP before!

    The World of the Snowflake

From what I can gather: Twitter found an old article from Rod Liddle where he stated his desire to shag Year 10 pupils if he were a teacher. (14 year olds, apparently). "Literally a communist" twitter activist Ash Sarkar posted this with a "lets pile in" manner or thats how it came across. Julie Burchill went (my paraphrasing gist here) "Oi that's my mate, oh btw, hypocrite, isn't your God a paedophile!" and they started discussing some bit on the Koran. Instead of taking a fucking chill pill at this point, everyone dug in deep and flung mud. And now at least one of the above is suing the other for libel or slander or something. (I can't find the actual posts that caused the full meltdown, just the first. It seems some deleting has gone down...) To be blunt, Burchill's a sod, Sarkar's a daft 20 year who shouldn't have the public profile the press give her, and Rod Liddle, I'm sure you don't need to go back 8 years with his works to find him saying something creepy! It's like the old saying: how do you know Will Self is being a cunt today? He breathes.. Pillock Owen Jones was also involved but do we need to mention him? Thought not. The cancellation of the book is overblown (but also hilarious - like I said, did they not know who they were publishing?) like every story that orginates on twitter ever. Right that's enough time wasted on the subject imo...

tbf it's the right of publishers to not want to associate with known shitheads but... where they asleep for the previous, what, 30 years of her career?

You've never seen it? It's Arnie taking the piss out of Arnie movies, with Charles Dance as a Bond type villain clearly loving every second. I loved that film as a kid... and as an adult.

    Ideas and Possibilities for 2021

iirc when we looked this up (pre-covid?) the only birth certificates that fitted him were the mid-1930s. I meant to look further into it, but 2020 happened...

    9. Linda Nolan

There's the story of the Mike and Bernie Winters bombing at the Green's Playhouse in Glasgow. One started to stony silence, and when the other walked on, up shouted a loud voice: "Aww shite, there's two of them!" (Although this links to another Playhouse story where the act before a young Nicholas Parsons was due to go on stage was getting killed by the Glasgow crowd. So on walks a very nervous Parsons who stammered through his opening line. "Don't worry, son"!" yelled a voice from the back of the crowd. "We like you!" Anyhow, does anyone remember when Tony Blair won in 1997 and got D: Ream (with future astronomer Professor Brian Cox) to do a concert where they played Things Can Only Get Better over and over again? Just that one song. 10th circle of Hell as Dante put it. Well, that's exactly how I picture a Nolans gig. Their greatest hit - singular.

    Derby Dead Pool 2021

REJECTED PICK Margaret Keenan the covid vaccine woman. WHY As intimated earlier in the week, shes only known for being an unknown who happened to get a vaccine. If she dies of the vaccine, she'll only be famous for dying. I think you'll find the dictatorial lead of msc is harsh but fair. If this annoys anyone's shortlist, kindly bemoan those who spent years picking 20 year old no names with kids and terminal cancer. Being less grumpy and/or Scottish, the rules are fairly flexibile and lenient but she can't flex over them. It'll be the age. And lack of notability... I'm only doing this for names actually suggested we had to turn down, because who wants a list of 10, 000 Mirror last christmas stories? Don't say yes...

    Dead Pop Stars

Duncan Campbell, born 1926 in Springburn (the only one to that area and age, there's another born 1928) but both have no middle name. Married June Noble Presley, who died in Pitlochry in 2010 aged 73. They got married in Fraserburgh (!) in 1958. Again, he's a middle name-less wonder. There are 2 options for him on the probates but... they seem too far away from Weymouth for my liking (Winchester/Brighton). No sign of death notices in the Scotlands Record, checking every Duncan Campbell since 2010. Question - did Elvis actually have a Scottish born cousin called June? Because her surname is spelt differently and I'm not finding links to her bar this Wiki page at half past midnight. The free version of 192 is also at a loss finding anyone of that age called Duncan Campbell in Weymouth. And this is where I head to bed for now, having assumed this would be an open and shut case. Never assume, clearly...
