    André Maranne

Amusingly (for me) I was just watching Andre 10 mins ago in Yes Prime Minister as the European Commissioner. As he was in a bunch of stuff I loved as a kid I was quite sad to learn he died in 1992. Then delighted to learn that despite that handicap, he was still replying to fan mail in the past decade! imo he's worthy of a DL spot (this argument is dead forever after some recent picks tbh) but unlikely to be picked!

Who Gets The Chop For 2021

I assumed GWB was speaking for the Bill Gates's Dad Fan Club and thought those 8 were far too famous...

Why is this STILL news? The Radio 1 friendly edit has existed since before KIRSTY MCCOLL WAS EVEN FUCKING MURDERED YET. But ever single fucking year its a news story.

    British Character Actors

David Bickerstaff has tweeted the news that Philip Voss has died aged 84. Lousy news if so, fine actor: Four Weddings and a Funeral, Octopussy, and more recently in the sitcom Vicious where he was one of the good bits.

tbf the non-Brexit possibility is that most of the people who would pay tribute are gone now. His seats now 2 safe Tory seats so no Labour successors to pay tribute. From the Blair years, who heard anything of Anna Snelgrove in 10+ years? So that avenue is gone. The leadership only really refer to the big names dying as otherwise as this thread shows they'd be talking about nothing else. Most of his friends in the movement are dead now. He was last in the Labour party in 2002, so most of the Labour grassroots are likely too young to remember him being part of the party. (Only 37 Labour MPs tenures date from before 2002 btw....feck, I'm getting old!) Ruined a list of political heroes with that fucker Scargill there.

He's here. tbh I didn't mean deaths door, just that it was a surprise to see him looking like an old man given he was rocking the Hastings/Edge of Darkness look for decades.

    The Happy Birthday Thread

When I was 4 or 5 someone had the smart idea of having me in the room when this scene from Doctor Who played and I was legit scared of shop window dummies for years.

    The Happy Birthday Thread

It's just odd imo. Not like a sensible childhood phobia () like Rosie and fucking Jim: Look at those creepy bastards!
  11. There's usually about 7 or 8 returnees so at a guess: Jerry Lee Lewis - looking quite ghastly in that video from the other week. QE2 - 95 next year and one of those few genuinely too big to miss. Linda Nolan - terminal now. Jimmy Greaves - could go at any time now. Gorbachev - spent most of last few years in hospital, him being dropped this year gave me palpitations so hopefully we dodge the 2020 bullet... Pope Benny - clearly starting to go downhill Sidney Poitier or another Random oldie – Farrakhan/Gall/Mel Brooks - ALways one, you're guess is as good as mine. Sidney or Mel are my preferences. Gazza or Joni Mitchell returning – not Ozzy or Larry King as hoped - The loony return. I'd prefer Ozzy gettng a spot on the list while he's still about.

That's some strong work on three difficult cases. When off work later, I'll see if it brings up any new leads, thanks.

Think the Echo url page just got deleted for space after a while. Died in a hospice from COPD.

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

Here is the Telegraph last week: Speaking ahead of the drama’s release this Sunday, Mr Fagan said: “There’s plenty of people who’ve knelt before the Queen but there’s not many who’ve sat on her bed and had a chat, is there?” The Telegraph tracked down Mr Fagan, who is now 70 and recovering from a recent heart attack and the after-effects of covid, to a tower block in Islington, north London. He's actually 72 but otherwise...

Since you ask nicely, here's some which managed to stump me over the years: Well, Peter "PJ" Hammonds DOB is still MIA. It stumped me and Cat! I even asked him once and he evaded the answer, saying he remembered growing up in the 1930s. (Also he may have a wife called Cressida, according to Cat's research before he hit a brick wall too.) Henric Hirsch escaped Hungary after the 56 revolution failed and became a stage director in the UK. Worked on a few episodes of Doctor Who before William Hartnells temperamental nature (some say his open prejudice, though the jurys out on that one) led to him calling with a nervous breakdown and a replacement taking over direction on The Reign of Terror. Hirsch recovered to direct Emmerdale in the 1970s and then... disappeared, pretty much, and was found in Australia in 1994 but is believed to have died since. Most interesting of all, Lesley Scott. Paul Erickson was a regular Welsh screenwriter of the 1950s/60s - Dr Who, The Saint, Crossroads, etc etc. He died aged 70 in 1991. That bits not in doubt. However, when he wrote for Doctor Who, he "co-wrote" the scripts for The Ark with his wife, Lesley Scott. She's never been interviewed, doesn't appear to have written anything else, and there's nothing on her. But if she was Ericksons wife, there must be a paper trail somewhere. He'd have been 100 in 2020 if not dead so I assume Scott is long buried.

If it helps, I'm pretty sure we were told the 2017 Cup one died not that long afterwards.
  19. He's not alone. Do you remember Allegra Stratton, the woman who replaced Michael Crick as Newsnight editor and proved utterly out of her depth following the Cameron era/2015 election before jumping to ITV News and Robert Peston's show, and then quiting that role for a less arduous one? She's turned up again recently as Press Secretary for Boris! This government really do attract *all* the mediocrities.

    Death By Numbers 2020

Currently I think a crucial moment is some idiot from Glasgow dropping Doug Supernaw in July. That turned out to be a super naw.

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

Yeah a fall bonus needs to be directly related to the death, like Christopher Barry, whose death was directly linked to falling down an escalator at a shopping centre.

I was going to say "that was a good call by LFN" based on previous but I might retract it with this hitherto unseen 90 lark from last month.
