African Leaders - Despots and Democratic

For the record, I agree. Bit of alleged corruption but who's the last non corrupt leader of the UK? Threads gone beyond the obvious old school dictators to encompass all of Africa from the democracies to the dictatorships so the old title is a relic and a wee bit ethnocentric too. Also I don't blame any regulars for this and think the increased interest and knowledge in non European politicians is generally a good thing.

    Paul Nicholas

Manfred Mann Paul Jones also kids TV legend Uncle Jack. Showing my age probably.

    From Cleric To Relic

You and Arghton started making these names up ages ago and none of us noticed, right?

    Ideas and possibilities for 2024

I dropped him when they said he was going for immunotherapy as that sounded like they expected he could last a bit longer. This says that, contrary to most experts opinions, the immunotherapy has worked on his glioblastoma. Time will tell but there is a slim chance this is an incredible breakthrough.

    Derby Dead Pool 2024

1905 was a placeholder when the Cmme couldn't find information. The system had a habit of crashing with that field blank!

    Jonnie Irwin

Dropped him from the DDp because tbh I got bored and distracted by shiny new oldies, and 20 places isn't a lot. My trying to guess who would be picked has led to two of us bringing back Nadim Sawalha after a long absence and nobody picking Brian Glanville. Or Derry Irvine!

In my theme team so hopefully!

The Fringes Of Fame/family Of The Famous

Cheap, polite and never turn down a booking is a good way to keep a TV career going, I'd imagine.

    Engelbert Humperdinck

You posting in this thread randomly had me convinced he'd died.

    Wrestlers/actors

Marty Jannetty update. His sister has died, and his leg, which looks fucked after a botched op (I'm not linking to pics on here), apparently needs amputated.
  11. Regional parliaments in England were part of Gordon Browns devolution plan. They were defeated by referendum in the North East by Dominic Cummings and the same group and tactics who provided the basis of the pro Brexit vote. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_North_East_England_devolution_referendum
  12. Yes it was very funny because I wasn't on the DDP team at the time.
  13. Yeah like young Clorox wasn't alive in George Harrison's lifetime. I remember Taggart dying. Willz remembers before Mark McManus was famous. Paul Bearer remembers before he was born. Time is relative.

    Political Frailty

Jean served out Mels term when he died in a plane crash a week before an election. Despite dying he still got re-elected against Bush buddy John Ashcroft. Bush made him Ashcroft Attorney General after this which led to genuinely one of the funniest lines Michael Moore ever came up with. "They swore him in on a whole stack of Bibles because when you lose to a dead guy you need all the help you can get!"

    Widow(er) Shopping

Aye he fell down a staircase in front of aforementioned widow after enjoying a boozy meal. I've seen the stairs (not in person) and it was quite a nasty fall. This happened less than a week before Michael Craze died, falling down some stairs while going out for a walk on rehab from heart surgery. He suffered a head injury and his heart was too weak to operate. To lose one British star prematurely to dodgy stairs in a week is a misfortune. Two looks like a habit. It meant neither was around a few weeks later for National Rod Hull Fell off his Roof Day.

    Doctor Who

Nerd point of information. Only four classic companions lasted three seasons: Frazer Hines, Katy Manning, Lis Sladen and Janet Fielding. You could argue Sophie Aldred. The average was about a year and a half. They did however have far more episodes: Peter Purves was in roughly forty six episodes from 1965-66. That's more than Bill Potts and every Whitaker companion combined!

    Derby Dead Pool 2024

Oh dear god he's still whining. Local politicians from the 12th largest English city count under the rules. They count far more than some marginal artists. Ditto those from America. There's no margin of error in this. They were allowed before the Ffbi ban, they were allowed when I wrote the Ffbi ban and they are allowed by the current committee who I have 100% faith and support in. If you don't like it fuck off and create your own Deadpool.

    By -Election Bingo 2019-2024

Lost comfortably when Starmer was at his weakest. And no one remembers it now. His days as narrative shifter are long gone.
  20. Which is why I stuck solely to answering the question, without Daily Mail editorialising!

Got gubbed in his last three elections. Yesterday's man.
  22. She put out a newsletter for Holocaust memorial day saying she was also going to remember modern genocides like Gaza. Politically daft in the current climate no matter your view on the horrible events but tbh she's got a lot of previous and Starmer is probably delighted of an excuse to get rid of a headache!

    Derby Dead Pool 2024

Jim Rafferty has no Wiki page but I defy anyone to tell me the songwriter of Don't Speak of my Heart isn't DDP worthy. In fact, a quarter of my Oldies team don't have Wikis, despite being notable oldies.

That form of bile duct cancer he suffered from had a grim prognosis and there was whispers last year it had spread to his brain.
