So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

I'm not usually a fan of shows like this but I did watch all of You. So it must have something going for it.

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

I didn't find him charming either, but they do show how someone like that can pull the wool over the eyes of his loved ones and even get them to lie to the police against their better nature. I'm only on Series 2 at the moment on Netflix, but I found the scenes were he grooms the 14 year old babysitter quite hard going because it's the sort of thing that goes on in real life. Although I struggled to keep up with the whole police corruption/non-serial killer deaths subplot, tbh. I've also watched You on Netflix, which is about another "charming lead" - see horrific sexually motivated serial killer played by a guy who used to do romantic TV. Penn Badgley, he's quite good in it, it's from his perspective but it's clear he's the villain to everyone but himself - and his twitter fans. The second series just ended on one of the most perfect narrative climax for a character I've seen in modern TV, so naturally they've just announced a new series for 2021 which will have to ruin it...

    Alt Obituaries Deadpool

Good idea, although Schjeldahl was accepted this year. Also rejected and alive from my various lists Anne Graham Lotz - evangelist and Billy Graham's daughter Julian Fiano - First Dates contestant Deborah James - BBC and Sun journo Lloyd Klein - Fashion designer Cathy MacPhail - Scottish author Anna Holmlund - Winter Olympian Geoff Fox - Weatherman I think Klein and Fox are better, Holmlund is a long term case, MacPhail/James/Lotz still ill iirc...
  5. I saw this in the cinema at the time. There's a big fight scene in a Lego shop complete with lego dinosaur looming over everyone that went down particularly well with the audience.

    The Dead of 2020

Mayor Ron Smith Died on Wednesday. Lasted surprisingly long time with pancan. Also, those of you who had jailed journalist Mevlut Oztas written down, he's dead and all.
  8. Tonight's Pointless Celebs is actually a repeat from earlier this year but I missed it then. As its on Writers, it does bring up some names who, although not in immediate danger of being your DDP hit for 2021, are now in their 70s and not often seen on TV. So Terry Deary, 74, of Horrible Histories million selling book series and TV show fame, has the hair of a man who recently had chemo when it was filmed, and the appearance of someone who recently lost a fair bit of weight, so maybe keep an eye out there. Eve Pollard, 75, looks more Auton than human now. Jeffrey Deaver, 70, doesn't look bad for a horror/mystery writer in his 70s. Laurence Marks, 72 and Maurice Gran, 71 wrote The New Statesman, which is fab, and Birds of a Feather, which was less fab. Marks also did a lot of investigating into the Moorgate tube crash, hosted a documentary on it, and is convinced his dad (who died in the disaster) was murdered. Gran has seen better days, Marks looks like the sort of chap who will die in about 15 years time. Peter James, 72, is the sort of crime writer your mum reads. His mum used to work for the current Queen. So bar perhaps the great Terry Deary, none of these names will be mentioned against on DL Forums for another decade. But it was nice to see them all show up for a rare TV appearance in 2020.

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

4 months on, 4 names off the Drop 40, 4 months of the year left. And there does appear to be about half a dozen exceptionally ill/frail folk left at least... I've cut out the frankly irrelevant years.

    British Science Fiction Series

Have just found out that actor Edmund Kente died aged 72 back in January, completely off the radar. He had a decent sized role as a Scrooge turned Cyber-human Scoones in the David Tennant 2009 Dr Who Christmas special The Next Doctor. But I add pictures as he'd been in a fair few things including Downton Abbey, The Tudors and Eastenders over the years.

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

So the Cmme are very slowly discussing the 2021 Derby Dead Pool as the covid/life/work balance has led to things being busy in August. When we have more time (hah), the plan is to look up the Qualifying Obits and see what can qualify under the ethos of the game, especially now that FFBI picks are barred. Yes, we'll even take some of Willz's ideas under consideration, old chap. One thing I can announce as a sort of "this is what's been looked at" thing as it's been unanimously agreed. Do you know what the biggest topic we get replies on is? It's not the theme team, or FFBI picks, or even "you missed my obscure pick"... It's "Why doesn't the Independent count as an obit anymore? Can you bring back the Independent as a QO? Please bring back the Independent! I scored, I scored, oh, you don't count the Independent anymore.... (the latter being quite pitiful as its usually someone hoping to get their one hit of the year)." By an overwhelming majority, the replies I get for the DDP have concerned the axing of the Independent when it became a digital only news source. And so, with the general belief that the Cmme should be stewards for the gameplayers... we have decided to acquiesce to the mass appeal. The Independent - independent(dot)co(dot)uk - will be an acceptable Derby Dead Pool qualifying source once more from 1/1/2021. The rest of the news will follow when it's agreed, in September/October. As you were...

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

You're doing a grand job, keeping the technical side ticking over well.
  14. I got Canada, presumably it means yer a forgettable big bastard who is mostly harmless. Uruguay was fairly progressive democratic socialist for most of this century which is probably what it means for folk. Mujica and nearly Drop 40 but got cured Vasquez focused mostly on improving education and literacy and health care, rather than the usual S American thing of coups and military parades. It'll never catch on...

    Dead Drummers

After Colin Meads, Stefan Karl Stefannson and Fred Rister, this is the 4th straight year a big DDP death has happened on the 20th or 21st of August. The sort of stats I bet you all love. Hah.

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

Well for @gcreptile I think Guy Harrison still awaits a QO, but Dale Hawerchuk got one too: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/reuters/article-8640707/Hockey-Hall-Famer-Hawerchuk-dies-57.html

  21. Sorry I've got nothing to add to the topic except to smile at this post from 2016 which seems to bemoan a death drought in the middle of 2016! A few days later, Victoria Wood, Prince and Chyna were all dead.

    The 100 Club

I mean, a backbench MP who focused on trying to protect jobs in his town and only really spoke up over transport issues and protecting endangered animals is sort of chap who gets general respect for being a decent sort, but as another passing political anorak, I'd just like to reaffirm this here: I'd never heard of Ronald Atkins until he became known for being very old. In fact, I think he's more famous now for being an MP who is 104 than for his efforts in the late 60s to promote a Channel Tunnel.

    DDP 2021 Town Hall

Aww great, that PM I just sent to the other 2 Cmme members on this is already out of date. 3-1 (Spade, Toast, Joey; Willz) against now.

    DDP 2021 Town Hall

I can see the pros and cons of them, and the non Cmme are currently 2-1 against so more opinions are useful. The Cmme's slow ongoing investigations of next years game didn't even consider the death notices so far.

    DDP 2021 Town Hall

I believe the issue is DDP players can game the system by paying for death notices for their picks in theory? The floor is open for folks views anyhow. EDIT - Or I could have waited 2 mins for Spade to reply...
