Betelgeuse has stopped dimming, may be getting brighter again. Nobody knows why, moodswings imo. https://www.sciencealert.com/betelgeuse-has-officially-stopped-dimming

I voted for Bob Dole. Bob Dole doesn't like this. This is not the sort of vote Bob Dole hoped that Bob Dole would get.

Fastest start since 2000 (4/50 by 23rd Feb - Stanley Matthews, Don Budge, Charlie Schulz and EW Swanton) - only time before we've had 4 deaths before March.

Incidentally, found out Ida Schuster was in cult classic SF film Death Watch. Filmed in Glasgow in 1979 incidentally so you can see a lot of Glasgow before the conservation work started up*. But anyhow, Schuster's credited role in the film? OLD WOMAN. Forty plus years ago! *example for @YoungWillz

Vera Lynn still sells records, is part of British culture and shows up at stuff, and is taught in schools. Not the same level of remoteness by far. Although for the record, we did WW2 in Primary 1. Vera Lynn was part of the topic as a historical figure. For her to be still alive 30 years on is really weird on a personal level...

Aye, sorry to hear of your loss, Biblio.

Man, 1918 has no staying power. Ida Schuster (or I guess Hutton Gibson) might be the most famous survivor born that year now.

Never seen the film, but her achievements are laudable. RIP.

Be a bit shit if space did provide longevity. "Old age for you Buzz, old age for you Valentina, sorry Piers I'm shit out of old age here..."

Hopefully the Mike mad enough to co-host the DDP is spared though, eh?

Ulitzer's sources was on the ball about Gerald Kaufman being gravely ill a few Christmases ago (which I tried to back up with vaguely similar sources but someone else was randomly loud about making up a story he was fine). And others two iirc. So watch this space, I think.

Just a Minute regular too. One of the very few people to go the full minute on a topic without a single interruption for hesitation, repetition, or deviation. More than once iirc.

Much like FIFA and the head to head rules in the World Cup, the Cup needed rules for a draw, and the rule is: 11. In the event of a draw, the following tiebreaks will be used: 1st tiebreak = number of hits 2nd tiebreak = average age of hits 3rd tiebreak = flip of a coin 4th tiebreak if needed = A little game of eenie meenie miny mo (hehe) Now which complete arsehole came up with that? Being a wrestling fan I was tempted to promote both teams and have a triple threat, but we'd still be playing the 2017 Cup now with some of the players efforts that year!

That was a surprise, though. And speaking of surprises... Sean, mate, what's happening?

Something along the lines of "After the Year Dot" but who knows when inspiration will strike. Although with puns referencing Scott Steiner, a forgotten UK number one from 2006, the Elizabeth Wurzel line and the Douglas Adams/Tom Long one I was far too smug about, the only question is how low will the quality line of these puns be by December? imo very, very low!

Not to panic The Engineer unnecessarily, but coronavirus has started killing folk in Iran who had never left their home country in their lives. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/02/iran-confirms-coronavirus-cases-200220125104907.html

Aye, she did, and I completely forgot about that. Not the first time someone has shown up looking dire on Pointless shortly before dying either.

I predict the grim reaper is going to be 'like a super strong enema 'in 2020

How else will we know if she was SIGNIFICANT? -
Lucky! That's one of the great holy grails of missing cult TV. The same strand did a version of Lost Hearts before the oft repeated 1970s version, and it is completely missing too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v2OpMxYklQ

Good luck against whichever of these sods yer facing! Oh, hang on a sec...

Well I just wanted to reference M.R. James tbh, not win.

OH Toast's one is Kate Bush, no?

It might be down to getting over a chest infection (not coronavirus) but I really don't give a toss about Chinese numbers or what not tbh. Either it'll transform into a superflu and wipe out all of us, or it'll be like every other pandemic in the last 30 years and kill up to half a million people then get forgotten by Christmas. .

OK, as I'm not interested in being the question setter for days like the last few: Streets of (x) Born in the (x) (x) in the Dark Name the A lister who had these chart hits and just come up with your own question because its obvious.

Well Star Trekin across the universe, on the starship enterprise, under Captain Kirk (etc etc) got to number 1 in the UK for some reason. But didn't chart in the US. It's the same guy who did Arthur Daley He's Alright which didn't get close to number 1, I'm pretty sure So I'm guessing its that.
