    The Deathlist Howto

Aye, so there's this brain issue that's basically: folk need things to be structured and specific so they can function properly. Everything as it was. And now science has gone and changed the name of their illness for them. Bit insensitive, really.

    The Deathlist Howto

I was looking for a quote in the "what do people think of the 2011 list" type thread and couldn't find it for ages by search until I actually went looking up a specific post. The thread for 2011 was started by Davey Jones Locker and was called "GOOD LIST". Good list FFS. That's not even historically accurate in retrospect!

    The Deathlist Howto

I find the search engine on this site to be rather clunky, to the point where if you are looking for a thread title it can be often easier to go "Ideas and possibilities for 2015 site:forums.deathlist.net" on Google. (Thread name picked at random!) And Google can be an arse at times in actually working properly. Cat's thing has all the thread titles in the one place, so if you know where the thing you want is, you can find it faster than faffing with the search above. (Of course, if you can't remember where it was you saw it, you need to bumble around with the forum search - but each tool is only as useful in context of others...) This is helpful for nabbing info needed when running a deadpool, but it's more than that. Beyond all the ranting and "Die immortal person" posts, this forum has been running for nearly 20 years and has a hidden wealth of information and stats about people, health conditions and just folk anecdoting about their love of music, obscure science and what not. Making it a useful tool in several day to day scenarios. [As one example, recently being able to cite Jim Marrs in a commission thanks to Maryport chatting about him several years ago!] I'm not sure why Cat wanted to create it in the first place (never argue with someones inner Feynman), but it will help in certain types of search easier and so it is a useful tool here. Well, you DID ask...

    The Deathlist Howto

Yes, and he also produced pdf friendly versions for me. Very useful, and beyond the call of duty.

    50/50 Reboot

Aha, I knew I picked Acorah somewhere, naysayers. However, that's balanced by my somehow forgetting to add Marie "brain cancer for a decade" Fredriksson... You win some, you lose some...

    The 2020 Deathlist Cup

tbh I thought Toast was joining the Cup for a second there the moment I'm no longer in charge!

    The 1st death of 2020

So basically, you mention shagging and Gooseberry will remember your post for years... Anyhow, I stand by my views expressed in 2016 when the whole Joey identity joke first turned up. If he were Zorders, then Zorders have chilled the fuck out considerably...

    Presenters

I saw a few Most Haunteds back in the day. Hilariously crap TV. But one bit that nearly killed me was Acorah or some other sod trying to explain the history of the "ghost" they were investigating, some young woman murdered in a castle. "And later that night", he said ominously, "The lord sent his two most violent guards down to the dungeons to the young lady..." Which immediately conjured an image of a Vincent Price bad guy going "Right, you two, you are my most violent guards so I've got a job for you!"

    Name Shame?

The long Kinnock nightmare is, err, over.
  10. Also Kinnock was a shit. No Deathray, Neil that is.
  11. Alan Johnson was offered the leadership on a plate at least twice, once in far better circumstances than now (2014), and ran a mile. He was handed the leadership of the Labour Remain campaign in 2015 by Hariet Harman when she was Acting Labour Leader and full of her I Know Better than Everyone Mode, and he then made 14 public appearances during the referendum campaign compared to Boris Johnsons 300 odd. He really can't be arsed at anything approaching actual leadership. (Also he's not an MP but the other point is more pertinent...)

    The 2020 Deathlist Cup

Enjoy and good luck! As the creator and former host of the Deathlist Cup, I can say don't worry too much about chances ahead of time. The draw can be kind or not kind, the luck of who dies and who doesn't more so. Also, it being direct one on one competition over one month allows for "surprise" results and we've had many over the years. One example was Roverandout beating 4 time DDP champ Spade Cooley a few years back. Willz beat Captain Chorizo to reach the Quarters after announcing he was doomed, and unfancied (no, Sir Creep, not that use of the term) Boudicca reached the final ousting several more experienced deadpoolers just last year. Basically, enjoy the buzz, I guess? It may last longer than expected...
  13. Middle ground: David Lammy comes across as a cheery, well meaning chap whose slip ups seem to come from an overly passionate want to try and help people. That said, he ain't leader material at all. PS Barring Boris Johnson getting feared, Brexit happens in 27 days time. The next election is in 2024. I don't see the Remain/Leave position of a party leader mattering a jot at that time, unless Brexit has really fucked up things badly.

    The Dead of 2020

Well done to everyone who dropped Tom Long from their 2020 DDP teams for his remission. Oops. (Me included.)
  15. Inoffensive! Sorry, I was struggling for the right word, as you can probably tell.

    Predict The Drop 40

Keep in mind I don't have the numbers to hand, but Trebek, Porridge, Banali, Smith, Gulpilil seem likely so far.

    A Joke

I'm not responsible for Paul's crap spelling! (although I did look up Whispa, so he's in the clear and its the shit search to blame.) Anyhow, timeless!

    A Joke

Surprised one of the all time great crap jokes hasn't been shared on here before (and I searched): Why was George Michael covered in chocolate? Careless Wispas.

    Best Star wars movie

Good shout (for 2nd best of course). Although, mileage varies, but there's nothing worse than seeing a box of Celebrations, putting a hand in for a random selection, and bringing out 3 or 4 Snickers bars.

    Meat Loaf

    Further down that article:
  21. See, Andrew might be in danger due to the running trend of either Monarch or Consort outliving at least one child: Queen Mum outlived Princess Margaret. Mary of Teck outlived George VI, Prince John and Prince George. Edward VII (and his wife) outlived Prince Albert. Queen Victoria outlived Princess Alice, Prince Alfred and Prince Leopold. William IV outlived his own legitimate child. George IV outlived Princess Charlotte. George III outlived Prince Edward, Prince Octavius, Prince Alfred and Princess Amelia. George II outlived Princess Anne, Princess Caroline, Prince George, Princess Louise, Prince Frederick (the heir) George I... only outlived one of his mistresses kids. But there, 300 years of tradition to keep up. Prince Andrew should be worried. Now watch him live to 100 and the rather unassuming Princess Anne snuff it in the next week...

I think it was mostly down to him looking like shit tbh.

    Presenters

DAMN IT! I've been convinced for a few years he had limited time left, just on subconscious gut feeling, but never picked him in any pools because you can't back up that with stats.

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

DDP latest (in terms of being open and try and stop the annual "whens the update? Its 3rd January already!" moaners): Grim has been going through all the new celebrities added in 2020. There was 300 on the database from the pre-Christmas period, and another 620 to process of which 154 were dealt with today. This includes checking to see if they are actually alive first - more difficult than it looks for some of the obscure sods chosen! Once added to the big excel thing, me and Reptile have been going through that and actually adding the information to each name. Gender, DOB, are they alive, descriptions, etc, that sort of thing. Again, some folk (Jim Steinman) are easier to cover than others (some random Princess of no place, Europe...). Work is moving steadily onwards.

    Derby Dead Pool 2020

Work on the new DDP carries on apace with the data entry, between Grim (who has done shitloads of the ground work), Reptile (a solid hand we can rely on) and, err, me (pray for the DDP...) .
