I predict the grim reaper is going to be 'like a super strong enema 'in 2020
msc replied to Gooseberry Crumble's topic in DeathList Forum
Aren't you in luck? I had a look over my "year in memoriam" from 2012 and just going for the names that made the BBC front page/news: Bob Holness, Etta James, Dick Tufeld, Frederick Treves, Angelo Dundee, Ben Gazzara, Tripods author John Christopher, Whitney Houston, David Kelly, Peter Halliday, Frank Carson, Marie Colvin, Davy Jones off the Monkees, Norman St-John Stevas, Philip Madoc, the King of Tonga, Jocky Wilson, Bert Sugar, Mike Wallace, Dick Clark, Levon Helm, Greg Ham, Bert Weedon, Jack Ashley, Joel Goldsmith, Yekini, Adam Yauch, Maurice Sendak, Vidal Sassoon, Al Megrahi, Robin Gibb, Kathryn Joosten, Ray Fn Bradbury, Caroline John and Mary Tamm off Dr Who, Frank Cady, Rodney King, Brian Hibbard, Victor Spinetti, Anthony Bate, James Grout, Nora Ephron, Yitzak Shamir, Eric Sykes, Ernie Borgnine, Jon Lord, Celeste Holm, Simon Ward, Alastair Burnet, Angharad Rees, Sally Ride, Geoffrey Hughes, Tony Martin, Maeve Binchy, Gore Vidal, Bernard Lovell, Marvin Hamlisch, Sid Waddell, Henry Harrison, Scott McKenzie, Tony Scott, Dom Mintoff, Nina Bawden, Phylis Diller, Neil Armstrong, Max Bygraves, Hal David, Michael Clarke Duncan, Joe South, Terry Nutkins, Derej Jameson, John Bond, Andy Williams, Herbert Lom, Marsha Singh and Malcolm Wicks (current MPs who died young), Eric Hobsbawm, Big Jim Sullivan, Alex Karras, George McGovern, Clive Dunn, Bill Tarmey, Roger Hammond, Larry Hagman, Dinah Sheridan, Dave Sexton, Oscar Niemeyer, Dave Brubeck, Patrick Moore, Ravi Shankar, Kenneth Kendall, Daniel Inouye, Jack Klugman, Charles Durning, Richard Rodney Bennett, Gerry Anderson, Norman Schwarzkopf, Harry Carey Jr, William Rees-Mogg, Tony Greig. *takes breath* At the time it felt like the biggest year of death ever, until 2014 happened. And then 2016 blew everything out of the water. -

Just looking at some of the names "on the DL clock" as it were - Prince Philip, Jimmy Carter, Gorbachev - would classify it as a notable year alone. -

Nah, I'm done for metaphors after Spade's "2019 deaths = tomato ketchup precum" one earlier this year. And yeah, given the way the dominoes are placed, 2020 feels like a big year in waiting... -
Merry Christmas, DDT, Banali's lead singer got the full BBC obit back in 2007 when there were much less DDP obit chasing from the likes of the Mail.

Yes, the email is ddp(at)derbydeadpool.co.uk, but the website has it as TOddp(at)derbydeadpool.co.uk. As neither of us wrote that bit down I assumed it was your traditional website anti-spam thing.

Yep, Grim is taking a well earned Christmas break* so confirmations will be in a few days, probably. *Genuinely, you should see the amount of work hes put into the DDP already. He's doing brill. Even though I can't see the emails, my teams are in early (and forum polis man Cat of the Yard has copies in case anyone thinks I'd try and pull a fast one on them...)

Don't worry, Sir Creep, in 2010 the owner of the Segway company died by accidentally driving his Segway off a cliff. Respect to his loved ones and all that, but I think I nearly died reading that announcement and it still makes me and mrs msc giggle now a near decade later.

Alan Bennett has turned down a knighthood at least twice, and Glenda Jackson a Damehood. Bill Nighy, Peter Capaldi and Jim Broadbent (how's that for a hattrick of talent?) have all repeatedly turned down the offer of even a mere OBE.
-
Sounds like he was a lucky chap - nasty fall, needed a blood transfusion. A worrying reminder that even the immortals can start to run out of battery life.
-
It was the DDP's co-host trying to make a "I think you ought to know I'm feeling terribly depressed" gag reading Deathray's intended DDP bottom of the barrel team of nobodies. But a lack of exact YouTube clips and the discontinued auto-embed diluted it somewhat.

Tbf to them, Liverpool have been streets apart of most of their rivals so far this season. Signing Jurgen Klopp was probably the equivalent of signing a Messi or Mbappe for them in terms of how much he's transformed that team around last few years. Meanwhile in Scotland, Ian McCall has massively improved performances for the mighty Thistle, which is why we've moved from rock bottom in our league to... second from bottom.

Thanks, but genuinely the last thing I want to do is incur extra work on a pool runner so I'm happy to stick with Frankland. There's going to be scenes when he dies on 31st December 2020...
-
I keep forgetting this thing has jokers (even though I do actually read the rules and once had a 4 point joker in the Hares...) but luckily the age old thing is to make the wild card number 1 on the list, so good luck to Billy Frankland. I did once forget to put a joker on a DDP team, which is how BBC radio host Colin Bloomfield became my DDP Joker in 2015 - TMIB just picking the first person on the list. Dozy, dozy msc blames the Christmas period...

Cough, Max WAS Ming. "Gordon's Alive?" as all the DL geeks will no doubt attest. Also The Exorcist, Seventh Seal, and some recent TV show.... Throne of Games or something like that
-
The only two who feel 100% DLy names to me are Morricone and Ming the Merciless himself!

My team for 2020 is in! Good luck to everyone else. Unlike last years massacre, this time I only needed to make 4 replacements, the names of which I'll reveal once the new year has arrived. It would have been 3, but I chanced my arm at a really low quality pick just in case it was accepted. It wasn't!

ISJ had cancer, but has kept quiet about it - presumably the fact he still breaths meant it got better or controlled as its been a while. Didn't know about Jimmy Calderwood, that's a shame, dementia at 60. His Dunfermline side played some surprisingly good stuff at times, though the meme at the time was his sides would batter Rangers only to lose to fluke goals for 3 years straight. When he went to Aberdeen, results speak for themselves - taking a non-Old Firm Scottish club beyond Christmas in Europe has only happened once in at least 20 years. Maybe even since Jim McLean was taking Dundee United to the UEFA CUp final? Their final group game was funny as Copenhagen fans seemed to think it was a bye as they only needed a draw against Scottish opposition. They got gubbed 4-0!

Sent in a team by PM. Good luck everyone.

Longterm DDP-holics of the forum will be aware of my long running trend: dropping people who swiftly die the next year. Resume: 2019 - Philomena Lynott, Steffan Lewis, Carl Piddington 2018 - Colin Butts, Simon Ricketts (thank you Joey for reminding me of that spectacular failure!) 2017 - Keith Farnham 2016 - Caroline Aherne, Asa Briggs 2015 - Chris Woodhead, George Cole 2014 - Derek Martinus, Sandy Jardine, Jaruzelski 2013 - Glafcos Clerides, Ronald Coase So, Merry Christmas, the following people will be dropped by Pan Breed in 2020: Barry DuBois, Ozzie TV star. Kerri Parker, Playboy bunny and model school owner with the incurable brain cancer and the alternate therapies. (She's only being dropped because she feels too fringey for the co-hosts main team...) Vicky Phelan, the Irish cervical cancer campaigner Deborah James, the Sun/BBC journalist Lee Kerslake - you know who he is. Dame Carmen Callil, who seems to be on the mend, and thus is destined for the LOTL in the next 5 years...

Feck, wheres the whisky? The Pogues are awesome, naturally. Anyhow, my favourite festival music is from A Very Scary Solstice by the HP Lovecraft Historical Society. Of which my favourite is the timeless Harley Got Devoured by the Undead (warning, contains spoilers for The Statement of Randolph Carter from the title onwards...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCOZ7pp332g&list=PL2F76563063A68123&index=10

Hohoho, Merry Christmas. Here's the DL picks list from 2016 of types of pick, survival rates, likely future contenders, DL longevity, etc all updated to 24th December 2019. Spoiler tagged due to length...

He looks like a chap who had a fall and/or flu to me.
