DL Status Updates: Statements, Obsevations & Verbal Tennis
msc replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Aye Hogmanay's Eve is a good one and all. -
John Mortimer who got flagged up a few times the year before due to failing health died on the 16th January too. And while possibly not DL fame level (?), Ricardo "KHAAAAN" Montalban died in that same week. Got curious so looked it up and David Vine died that week too! Got to be a rarity where 5 far more famous people than the DL success die in the same week...

Wrong DDP Cmme member, Shameless was Reptile's team as in the list of cancer mum nobodies and it always got a groan from me. Unless you mean my non-obit team this year, which was more "they are notable in their niche but not that much" picks to tease DDP regulars, only half of them got bloody obits. In general terms, if there is an upswing in FFBI-only type picks, then the Cmme will look at that, and may well take drastic action for 2021. At the moment we're trusting the DDPers not to be twats...

Looks like he'll be smashing Ginger Baker like numbers on the First Death of 2020 poll thread tbh.
-
Aye, none of which he actually sings on? There's been a few "who they?" picks but they've never gone for someone as utterly unfamous as Dai Llewellyn since 2009. And in the haste to grab him for the list, they forgot Tony Hart, all round A lister who died (of well recorded ill health) on nearly the same day!

So, How’s Your 2020 Shortlist Looking?
msc replied to Joey Russ's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I thought the last bit gave it away, not quite to Reptile's classic "could have Done More" standard but still. [Also, bit unfair to assume in hindsight that 2017 DQSP is 2020 DQSP...] Anyhow afaik the press got bored, moved onto newer sob stories. -
I used to think MND/ALS was the worst but the primary progressive aphasia Terry Jones and a few others have runs it close. Basically, it's dementia that starts up front, so you lose your ability to communicate with and understand the outside world first, but the actual dementia bit where the brain goes is the last bit of the illness. From what I hear from his friends, his mind is nearly gone now, and he's not expected to live too much longer (PPA has a considerably more dire prognosis than normal dementias). Despite being a huge fan of his, I can't help but feel that's a bit of a relief given this illness.

Went for JPdC on the basis he'd be on the 2020 list anyway so would free up a spot.
-
I was just going over the list last night and thought Tony was a cert to be dropped by the Cmme. Everyone's a critic these days... One of the best at being 7th or 8th in the credits in a 1970s film, imo.

Yes, I always think that is absolutely hilarious, too! -

There's a fair few of those at the moment. The Fringey cert someone (not me) is going to pick hasn't been mentioned, nor has the potential Mark Farren of 2020, nor a Guardian luvvie or that 12 pointer who wouldn't be a QO cert even 2-3 years ago. Even the front page of the BBC statesman meant to be in grave health goes unmentioned. Seems like most folk are, as a former DDP host put it, keeping their powder dry. And yes, none of them are Banana's pick... -
Recent Netflix thing The Movies that Made Us has an interview with John McTiernan AKA the director of Predator, Die Hard, Last Action Hero, lots of great blockbusters. There's a man not aging gracefully...

Been To Any Good Gigs Lately?

Sounds fun! It's been far too long without your presence round here. -
Brian Travers had two brain tumours removed surgically, and is now about to go on his 2nd bout of double chemo to deal with his cancer.

This one was fucking right and all. Quick, Sir Creep, tell us the American sports HOFer who is destined to die in 2020... PS If you say Doleman, a Paddington Bear stare is forthcoming...
-
If Doleman makes the list (spoiler alert - he wont) we all know the Cmme have gone for as many "hits" as possible. Anyhow, this is how I imagine most Cmme meetings end: Cmme Boss: "Well the whisky was great... and we have a list of people." Cmme henchman: "More booze!" Cmme statto: "Uh oh, this list only has 49 names!" Cmme Boss: "Oh fucking hell, quick, it's an emergency, anyone seen Sean's latest list of 700 people?" *checking of Iphones* Cmme henchman: "Anyone heard of Johnny Clegg?" Cmme Boss: "Is he alive?" Henchman: "Yes." Cmme Boss: "Brilliant, that's 50. More whisky!"

Harry's relationship with his grandad has always been very close even by royal standards. There is absolutely zero chance he continues to hang around in the Americas if the family actually thought this was it for Philip.
-
This week: Chris Moncrieff Kate Figes Branko Lustig Kenny Lynch Good episode.
-
I'm more surprised folk think he'll be discharged in 2 days as he's been in hospital pretty much the entire year with a long term issue of some sort, and all the press around the Chernobyl miniseries was quick to mention his increasingly frail self.
-
Thanks for keeping the Cup alive, Joey. Looking forward to playing as a competitor alone... well, until I draw Reptile in the first round for the third time in four Cups!

Is there no evil the Lib Dems wont stoop to, ruining DL forum games now and all?
-
Hugh had been quite ill for a while, and I think Ted's (entirely unexpected) death hit the rest of them hard.
-
Just heard off a mutual pal so likely true. SAHBs are falling like dominoes now.

For the record, I think that's the fastest I've ever changed someone's political opinion...
