Right, OK, so I think we should all thank @Spade_Cooley for taking on the DDP for 2018 and 2019, and forgoing the temptation to murder the rest of us (in game) to keep the game running. He will be returning as a player in 2020, so beware the rest of you. But the game must go on, and if TMIB's nervous breakdowns told us anything, its that the role of DDP showrunner, in these days of 500 teams, has become far too big for one man. So, Official Announcement Time: Spade's spot as DDP host will be replaced in 2020 by... The DDP Rolling Committee. We hope to have 2 or 3 people involved with the data entry bit of the game. (There is 1 other person currently dwelling on this bit, but imo the more the merrier.) This involves the use of Excel, something beyond me. Incidentally, if you CAN use Excel, and are able to help out the DDP in December and January, please PM Spade Cooley and he will add you to the general discussion. There will also be 1 or 2 folk involved in the Web Site side of things, writing up obits, dealing with emails, complaints from this forum, and so on. Hi. Unsure at this point in time if that will be a two person team, or 1 person and guest obits from players. More on this later. It will be a Rolling Committee, in that people will come and go, and the game will keep running regardless. If lots of people take 1-2 year runs in the various jobs, the game will last a lot longer than hoping 1 person doing everything doesn't crack. While I shall be writing obits and dealing with complaints (the fun bit!), I see my role as more caretaker as the DDP shifts into Committee mode. As such, I will adhere to Spade's precedent and term limit my involvement to 2 years. [By the end of those 2 years, changing the individual roles should be considerably easier than it has been.] The rules in 2020 will almost certainly remain as they are. Pan Breed shall remain in the 2020 DDP for reasons of keeping the continuous entries in a row intact, though it wont be contending for a spot near the top 50. Finally a time to pick Robert Mugabe and co... Rest of the team involved will be announced ASAP. And yes, @YoungWillz, I have noted that this is us entering the Colin Baker Era of DDP showrunners! Right, I think that's everything that needs to be known at this point in time. Although again, Excel users, to the Spade PM so we can actually *have* a DDP in 2020, so that we don't overdo the Colin analogy...

Political Discussions And Ranting Thread
msc replied to Deathray's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Its literally not in the powers of our constitutional monarch. She can advise against, but not order. Also, Boris played two political tricks. One it is essentially 7 lost parliament days on top of conference season, so likely legally unchallengeable. Second, he sent Jacob Rees-Mogg (Leader of the House) to meet the Queen, so the debate of who the monarch serves (PM or parliament) wasn't even allowed wiggle room, as the request came 'from' parliament itself. There was nothing she could do, bar maybe scowl. -
Who knew letting an asset stripper take charge of a football club could go so wrong so quickly?

Who will win the Democratic Nomination for President in 2020?
msc replied to Joey Russ's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Ok, so I got beyond the paywall. Warren has - reassured donors she wont start a Communist revolution - reassuring the party bosses she isn't going to start a new party, or be too dangerous to support. - wants to win the House and Senate as well as the Presidency so she can actually do stuff in power. - is schmoozing/winning over the superdelegates, much in the way Bernie didn't. - is already ground campaigning in key states. What evil!!!! Seriously, this is what competent politicians running for Office do. It's what all the huge reformers in history did. FDR schmoozed, bribed and compromised his way to the New Deal. Attlee did the same in creating the NHS and welfare state. Hitler (look, he was a mass murdering sod, but you can't say he didn't completely change German society - reform isn't necessarily on the side of good) pretended to be a reformed character for long enough to get all the power. Stalin was able to portray himself as a safer choice than Trotsky, Thatcher wasn't going to change much of the post-war consensus, Disraeli was only going to change a few things to help the party, etc etc. The other option is not to sway the minds of those who can put you in power to do things (that ain't the voters) and they go for a safer pair of hands. A Kamala Harris or Hilary Clinton. If you wait and wait for an 100% pure politician, there will be no one to vote for, and a lifetime of President Trumps, basically. -
Play School - Play Away - Childrens TV
msc replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList Forum
Yeah, that was because while it was before my time, I know from my many years on this forum how much several posters loved Ghosts of Motley Hall. Also I knew she was fairly ever-present on 70s TV. I remember her best as the voice of Mother Nature in SuperTed. I did watch Woof but the hell can I remember any of that one 30 years on! (Which is saying something for a show about a boy who turns into a dog!) PS Her agent Barry Langford has confirmed it. She had leukemia. When the actual press deems to take notice, I know not. -

Thoughts and opinions on the death list 2019

Calm before the storm, folks, calm before the storm. -
Highly underrated for his heroic actions imo, him and the late Denny Fitch. Before this incident, uncontained engine failure on a plane led to 100% fatality. By keeping calm and going for a controlled crash landing using slow gliding descent (look to Cat for the technical terms!), Haynes and Fitch managed to land the plane and save 185 of the 296 lives on board.

Who will win the Democratic Nomination for President in 2020?
msc replied to Joey Russ's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I picked Warren to win. imo the two old guys will tire out, and there's only 2 or 3 (tops) other folk it can be. A stats pick. Hah. -
Hard not to know, given Rad's favourite person of all time, Bernie Sanders, comes from Vermont!

Sydney Devine nearly died after 2 major heart attacks, but is recovering after emergency surgery, and is due more heart surgery next month. Time catching up with him.

So, yeah, Biden has been make a lot of gaffes lately, even for him. Latest involves thinking he was in Vermont, which is a town, apparently. So either a man considered one of the best ground campaigners of his generation by both sides is actually a bit dumb on the campaign trail. Or, watch this space, Dr early signs of dementia...

Yo, Sir Creep. Mind this thread from 2015 which was created because you asked about the rules of various deadpools? Toast gave you (and everyone) the Hartlepool Rules on Page 1!

Quite chatty by looks of it in this new interview, but on the audio he sounds quite rough. Combined with infrequent reports of health issues effecting his work now, one to keep a close eye on.

Looks like the indomitable William Frankland is starting to run out of steam. The 107 finally moved into a care home a few months ago due to frail health, though he still writes. This piece by the Church Times confirms Frankland is now lives at The Charterhouse Infirmary, residency of which is for end of life patients.

As Serie A starts up again (can anyone beat Juventus? No.) Mihaljovic is apparently coaching Bologna from his hospital bed. Reminded of the time he got a red card during a Champions League match and then tried to sneak back out to pitchside disguised as a medic.

By definition, no? Anything wilder will be a - possibly embarrassing to mention online. Or identifying. b - sound made up c - the amount of alcohol effects the narrative in telling the story. Like the story where I punched a would be mugger would probably be interesting, cept my memory is "drink, drink, Rammstein, terrible hangover, friends telling the story the next day". There's a few of these where my own memory of events misses out on all the cool bits that happened. But one that is very much A, I guess.. Was having drinks in the student union, when a friend phoned depressed, so I got her down to the bar. 10am. Around 9pm, we head to a nightclub, bumped into girl I fancied who had just split up from her boyfriend, and I thought I was quite charming. Until her and my friend started snogging the fuck out of each other. Yep, my advances turned her lesbian. Go me! Anyhow, that one has a happier sequel. Whole thing led to me being more "c'est la vie" about things, few months later at a house party which stemmed from that night, was slightly tipsy and accidentally introduced myself to a woman who I had completely mistaken for another friend. And that is how I met Mrs Msc.

Yes, that is true (I was mixing stories to make the Roosevelt gag!) - iirc Herzog was tempted at one point! Herzog later released My Best Fiend about working with Kinski. He also once bet a fellow director that if they finished a difficult documentary, he would eat his own shoe. They did, and so did he, on stage at the premiere.
