Play School - Play Away - Childrens TV

Another lock stricken off my 2024 Oldies team.
  2. Will it undermine the government FFS. Reminds me of one of the few bits of Steve Coogan I like, The Day Today. The sketch was a report about an Elvis fan/serial killer getting executed by loo/electric chair. Coogan's Elvis Fan Club President was asked if this execution undermined Elvis's legacy, and he replied: "No, Sir, the King undermined his own legacy by dying on the John in a nappy!" Sums up the government imo.
  3. Yes, I know, you were all waiting for someone else to open the annual thread. Been down the Mitchell Library to hunt for clues? Got a good tip from your brother who works on Pointless Celebrities? Bumped into David Essex who swore you to secrecy about his terminal cancer? Or are you waiting for Spade's top December tips about rappers and Soprano guest stars? I just add names to a word doc all year, and come back to look at it in November, which I did last week. Far too long, so I cut the list down, and checked the forum for some names I'd missed, and ended up with a list which was five names longer than when I'd started.

    20th Century Americans Sitcoms

Problem is they'd filmed the finale long before the rest because kids get old. Then the show got recommissioned well over the original expectations. And so storylines started with that extra time took over. I agree that his part of the finale is the worst bit. The other bit people complain about was foreshadowed for nine years, the issue there was more in the time given to it. Which was fuck all.

    20th Century Americans Sitcoms

Hated The Office. I liked bits of Friday Night Dinner because it had a sweary dad that things go wrong for, and I like being represented. Friends was funny at the time but it's aged badly. Either that or I'm an adult nowadays. Perry's stuff has dated the least, though I still love a good OTT Joey reaction. Outnumbered I love. It is life with kids. Actually never heard of this one? Hated it but I'm allergic to Gervais. I really liked this one. Lots of fun mixed in with actual pathos. The one with Robin's kids, Christ. The finale was a mess but something I've learnt is that most TV finales are a mess. I still like Frasier and Drop the Dead Donkey. Not a fan either. God I hate both of these. I am Reverse Sean. While we're here, Little Britain, Mrs Brown, Miranda, as funny as a dose of Ebola IMO.
  6. It's still October. I don't even have a shortlist yet.
  7. I have literally no idea what you are on about. It's like political updates from an alternate universe at times.

    Political Frailty

Spencer Perceval started this rumour when they moved him into a nearby room after he got shot. However, its a myth as he was actually still alive (he died after being moved) and the royal rule this is meant to invoke would have covered all of Parliament grounds. However, anyone who dies in Parliament is subject to the monarch's coroner for a report, as its a royal palace. On the governments own website, it tells us you are free to die in Parliament should you feel the need. iirc Tony Benn's dad, Viscount Stansgate, died in the House of Lords after suffering a sudden stroke. They were planning to deal with Tony not wanting the peerage when his dad's unexpected death made it a political issue. You cannot however wear a suit of armour in Parliament, the spoil sports.

    British Character Actors

Melvyn Hayes just showed up to promote another episode of this. He looked great for his age being interviewed in October 2021 but has deteriorated drastically since then. He was struggling to speak which combined with the rapid frailty suggests stroke to me.

A DDP pick. Would be surprised if someone with so many geek fans had died totally off radar.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2024

Tim Stamper. Basically very astute with his money so decided to retire in his sixties and chill for thirty years. Was doing well for his age before the lockdowns but updates are thin on the ground.

I agree that The Windsor's is shite. Drop the Dead Donkey was incredible though.

I'm man enough to admit when I'm wrong. That 1993 Canadian election was great, incidentally...

    Derby Dead Pool 2023

@YoungWillz When I was in charge we did get complaints. Complaints that I wasn't lenient enough on that rule. Like saying Putin isn't enough of a warmonger! The reference and spirit of the rule we inherited from Spade, who kept it from TMIB, who kept it from OOO, who kept it from Rude Kid. That's nearly twenty years now.

Thanks. As Mr Stone jumped the gun, may I add our Glynis Johns as my new 3rd sub?
  19. 31st October 2024, though tbh I think Diego is on the money.

    Twisted DL 2023-2024

As you said you were having PM issues would you like subs to replace folk who died before the start in a new pm or just in this thread after the 15th? I can think of at least one person on my team too eager who has jumped the gun.

Did you see that recent documentary? Had no idea that there was a possible murder lurking in his past, nor that he wrote a song about murdering someone a few months later and filmed the video in the flat the real life murder is meant to have taken place!

Special guest referee at WrestleMania 2 for the NFL vs WWF Battle Royal that Russ Francis was in. Rule of Three coming up? How's William "The Refrigerator" Perry's health?

    15. Glynis Johns

tbh no idea if the Oscar nominated, Tony Award winning, Disney Hall of Fame actress is famous. If only she was in one of the most repeated on TV kids films of the last 60 years or something to help me work it out. Or a 70s horror classic. I respectfully suggest your lack of knowledge is down to her having had the common sense to save her money, so she could retire gracefully in her 70s, a quarter of a century ago. She's more famous than half the hobby horse names brought up in the annual "Who should the Cmme pick?" threads.

    Disc Jockeys

Many DDP hits bring a certain degree of sadness when they go (see McCallum, Gambon, Arrowsmith from the last update alone) so it's nice to counter that with a DDP hit that we can say "Good fucking riddance" to.
