Casually watching a Sky Arts thing on Kenneth Williams and thought Eric Idle was looking rough. Apparently it's not Idle, its Steve Punt from the Mary Whitehouse Experience.
-
I assumed it was your A pick, your E pick, and so on. But tbf I screwed up my subs last year when Nichelle Nichols died on deadline day, so my sympathies.

1. Put the economy first 2. Criticised financial thinking 3. Trying to bring interest rates down. I kid you not. -

So if she was less thick she'd be dangerous? I think the very events speak against this. A change of monarch, a new PM, a patriotic zeal, perfect time to call an election, ride the momentum. Instead they rushed through that budget ASAP because they thought it would be popular. -

Wasn't much time. The budget happened as soon as parliament returned after the Queen's death. And even before the Queen died her energy cap which was actually a rise was pissing folk off. -
Gooseberry, usually I'd say after 3 years of enema you need to get to A&E asap. But in this case, I think you need to beware next year. 2014 - Richard Attenborough, Robin Williams, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Eusebio, Rik Mayall, Joe Cocker, Jeremy Thorpe, Jack Bruce, Ian Paisley, Donald Sinden, Jaws, Joan Rivers, James Garner, Elaine Stritch, Bobby Womack, Alfredo di Stefano, Eli Wallach, Elena Baltacha, Bob Hoskins, Tito Vilanova, Kate O'Mara, Sue Townsend, Tony Benn, Harold Ramis, Ariel Sharon 2004 - Yasser Arafat, John Peel, Emlyn Hughes, Ronald Reagan, Christopher Reeve, Janet Leigh, Brian Clough, Johnny Ramone, Ray Charles, Peter Ustinov 1994 - Fanny Craddock, Cab Calloway, Taggart, Peter Cushing, Roy Castle, Kim il Sung, Jessica Tandy, Burt Lancaster, Dennis Potter, Jackie Kennedy, John Smith, Senna, Richard Nixon, Kurt Cobain, John Candy, Bill Hicks, Joe Cotten, Telly Savalas, Matt Busby, Cesar Romero 1984 - Sam Peckinpah, Indira Gandhi, Francois Truffaut, John Hexum, Brighton bombing, Leonard Rossiter, Stan from Corrie, Truman Capote, Richard Burton, James Mason, Foucault, Eric Morecambe, John Betjeman, Andy Kaufman, Diana Dors, Count Basie, Tommy Cooper, Marvin Gaye, Arnold Ridley, Ethel Merman, Yuri Andropov, Luke Kelly (Dubliners), Jackie Wilson, Tarzan 1974 - Jack Benny , PG Wodehouse, Schindler, Charles Lindbergh, Mama Cass, Juan Peron, Pompidou, Bud Abbott, Duke Ellington, Sam Goldwin. 1964 - Sam Cooke, Herbert Hoover, Cole Porter, Harpo Marx, Gracie Allen, Ian Fleming, Flanery O'Connor, Nehru, Nancy Astor, General MacArthur, Alan Ladd, Peter Lorre Obviously my in-depth knowledge of big name celebs dries up a bit but there's a clear trend of years ending in 4 having big A list deaths, and a fair few "where the fuck did that come from?" big name demises too.

Look at these smart bastards in 2021, @Gooseberry Crumble - yeah, there were "he's no well" reports for a while.
-
Just to say, it's been on ITV3 about 2 or 3 times in the past year and is on ITVX.
-
I've gone for a 4 month "drought" and lots of gnashing of teeth by the usuals.
-
Never 11 without the 12th hit holds true another year.
-
I did ask about her last year but was told "msc, you can do better", basically! In my defence, the BBC made her sound far more famous than she turned out to be, but if others picked her I can understand that and her being allowed - the press made her out to be a bigger deal last year. That said, RIP. A sad story all round, and no age.

Aye. Front page has a good joke about Rafferty's liver hoping file sharing would dent the £80k a year he was still making off Baker Street. Am reliably told it was closer to £800k. Grumpy bastard, amazing songwriter though.
-
Reminds me a bit of Gerry Rafferty. The final illness was drawn out but he never left the hospital again alive.

Was a fan of Diamond John Quenby in the 90s.

It's really the lack of alternatives which is the shocking thing. Post-Hilary, the Democrats were so low on candidates Biden had to come out of retirement essentially. And he probably remains their best choice of the realistic candidates, despite being a decade too old for the role. There was just no real post-Clinton generation in that party, and Obama just covered over the cracks when it should have given them extra time to find folk. Whereas the Republicans are finding out what the Tories (and Blair's Labour) did before. If you narrow your candidates for office to the nth degree, you have a shallow and unconvincing pool of talent for the top job.
-
It's easier to get the British monarchy to abdicate than to get a US Senator to retire seemingly.

Peter Thompson I drew a dead end with as common name, obscure actor, etc. He was believed to be around to lack of evidence to the contrary, but its recently come to light that he died in 1999. The source is one of the more trustworthy researchers on Gallifrey Base, whom posts under a pseudonym but is known by Toby and others in real life and been vouched for. I don't have access to their research though, just that it's accurate. I stand by my comments from 2021 - Doctor Who Cast and Crew are useful, but they do often assume folk are alive due to no obvious evidence online of death. It turns out Hugh Lund was actually alive when I last updated that list (briefly), but my scepticism on Thompson proved accurate! Anyhow, I suspect vast numbers of uncredited names died long off the radar. It's why I tend to ignore them unless they are notable in their own right like Harry Fielder, Derek Martin and so on. Not to be harsh but for example, monster actor Dave Carter is apparently still alive but has been MIA from the public so long you could spend weeks looking for him and be none the wiser.
-
His mum is in very frail health. Dunno if that was mentioned. Much nicer person than her son imo.
-
For a brief moment I was worried until I twigged 90s kids TV hero Uncle Jack wasn't an internet celebrity and would probably get referenced under his main job as the guy from Manfred Mann. Paul Jones, still with us .

Already at the "1000% cert obit" but surely dying right after Parky pretty much makes that a slam dunk. Could have been a DDP contender (or pick) had he lasted another 4 months and change.

2 points – Scarlett Moffat, Abigail Kawanakoa, Maria Fux, Bernie Ecclestone, Ted Kotcheff, Alfonso Aaru, Demi Lovato, Rick Davies, Billy Two Rivers, David Hamilton, Ricky Knight, Mary Costa, Lee Ka-Shing, Macha Merill, Christopher Timothy - 1 point – Mavis Staples, Lil Wayne, Dick Pound, Penelope Lively, Vigdis Finnbogadottir, Henry Sandon All spelling typos either mine or the person who voted for them. Any doublers down to ye old "didn't remove one after adding late points", so no "you split someone's points in two" conspiracies round here. DROPPED FROM 2022 Milos Zeman – 104 points, never came close to readmission. Was below 20 points for most of the voting. Douglas Hurd – 296 points – Seemed a cert to make the list until an unexpected deluge of extra lists on Hogmanay left him well adrift. Jake Roberts – 31 points – Very much forgotten. Jean Marsh – 235 points – Miles behind until Christmas. Made a late charge but was too far back, finishing nearly 160 points off the pace. FORMER PICKS NOT PICKED IN 2022 Prunella Scales (390), Imelda Marcos (388), Burt Bacharach (386), Violeta Chamorro (370) – all came very close Sinead O’Connor – 12 points Alberto Fujimori – 67 points Val Kilmer – 20 points Willie Nelson – 184 points None of these came close to qualifying in 2023. Maybe they’ll do better in 2024. Well, not Sinead. DL PICKS NOT ON OURS Michael Parkinson - 186 points Tina Turner - 194 points, a fair way off the pace. Nigel Lawson/Burt Bacharach - As seen above, near misses. Pervez Musharraf - 355 points, so again, someone on the radar but who just missed out. OTHER NOTES The lack of Deathray has hurt the tiny weatherman bandwagon. The vastly increased points tally to get to 50th place meant bandwagons in general suffered a tough time in the voting. Clint Eastwood, Patricias Routledge and the Pope all saw huge swings to towards them, and seem to be gaining momentum as potential future picks. Meanwhile Billy Connolly almost got a clean vote of health, and Michael York and Joan Collins perhaps have surprisingly few voters given their fans on forum. With a little over 120 days till Hogmanay (fecking hell), made sense to finally sort this out before the whole rigmarole starts all over again!

As a wise man once said, Not everyone who makes 99 will get to 100.

Not of all can be sad bastards tbf. I suspect there's American TV fans on the Cmme. With the internet it's far easier to watch stuff from across the world now. Alex Trebek's Jeopardy! episodes were on UK Netflix recently, for example.
-
I figured he would. He's one of those names who I know through American movie/TV references, even if he didn't have his own shows here (that I'm aware of!). Also his Happy Gilmore appearance referenced a few posts above. And his semi-regular WWE appearances (see also Bob Uecker and Pete Rose, who are apparently sports stars and not comedic foils!).

1. Nigel Starmer-Smith - bedridden since at least Nov 2021, end stage dementia which came in relatively quickly as still working in 2015, looking half dead in video footage earlier this year. 2. Jimmy Carter - palliative care 3. Jacques Delors - been in frail health for years now. 4. Norman Tebbit - allegedly frail, visibly quiet (unusual for Tebbit) 5. Joanne Woodward - end stage dementia for bloody ever 6. Marianne Faithful - COPD plus fucked lungs from covid, nursing home, also quite quiet of late (again, unusual, even in her frail condition) 7. Bob Newhart - frail and his wife just died 8. Willie Nelson - frail, nearly died last year, still buggering on till the end. 9. Dennis Skinner - very quiet (and this is Dennis bloody Skinner we're talking about), known to be frail/ill for 4 years. 10. Sonny Rollins - No idea how he is still alive 11. Linda Nolan - somewhere in the final stages of Stage IV cancer, spread to the brain 12. Shane MacGowan - in hospital for 2 months at least, ICU, probably not long left. Hmm, maybe? I'm aware this has just cursed someone super healthy for their age like Robert Duval or Hal Linden like always...
