We haven't had a Chris Mortensen update in a while. So here's an interesting but long read from last month. TL/DR version: his Stage IV throat cancer has spread to his lungs, but is being treated...for now...

Political Discussions And Ranting Thread

They've made it rather simple, imo. We all stay in the single market, or no one leaves the EU, or we leave without a single thing agreed and no ability to do trade deals with anyone. Simple. -
No real surprise to anyone who remembers him, the man was a walking talking HA waiting to happen.

Aye, but the dam's held so far, that even if it does go, it's hard to see ahead of time what'll be the thing that does for it. The midterms will be a better judge of the current Dem/Rep dynamic. As it stands, I expect it to be a good night for the Republicans (they're only defending something like 5 of 33 seats), but if the Democrats hold on or make a net gain, then that 30% liberal might be as strong as the 30% Trumpaholics. I'd say fear the worst, but really I just get on with work and look up every now and again to see if they've sorted themselves out yet!

It could be, but I doubt it, purely because Kushner and Sessions seem good at implicating themselves without anyone else's help. Plea bid has to be info few others can give. Also, not sure they would. Pence is a Republican, but Trump comes with fanatical support, and is practically a licence to the White House for the next 7 years. Why take the risk? This is on the belief no major smoking gun which kills their faith in him happens. At this point, I can't imagine what it'd be.

There are a few horror blogs like this one reporting it, with quotes from his friends.

Ah, that's who that is!

Yeah, a Polish weatherman.

Yes, let's not add to the growing list of musicians in the 69 club now, Ozzy.

I don't know, once you get past the flaws of all modern leaders (nearly all rubbish at economics and overtly war friendly), I feel like I have more in common with a surly, grumpy, antisocial Scot. For some unknown reason.

Like this dude's summary: The Times had a bit behind the paywall on Fort last month, btw.

It's significant in that a plea bargain was only likely if his evidence incriminates someone above him, and there was only 2 people above Flynn in the pecking order: Trump and Pence. It's insignificant as you cant press federal charges on a sitting President, and a Republican dominated House wont ever impeach Trump, because they are getting exactly what they want with the tax cuts and stuff. And he remains favourite to win re-election in 2020.

Don't worry, at that speed she'll relapse on the 30th December and you'll have a ddp joker.

Well, remember George Burns back in the day. Roughly: "Every morning I read the obituaries in the morning papers. If I'm not in them, I relax and have breakfast."

We have a new provisional leader! Someone well known to the forum. 11 names from this years top 100 have now bettered their 2017 tally already.
-
But there will no doubt be some sad news soon to balance this.

This dude is on the stage and looking quite chipper for his age.

The Brazilian is Cafu, and "recognise but can't place" is, as Spade points out, Cannavaro. Back row is Carlos Puyol. In his grunge phase apparently.

Interesting recasting for the Magnificent Seven.

World Cup draw in a few hours. Think a nice easy group for England would do, like Brazil, Denmark and Nigeria.

Which is a feat worthy of Einstein compared to the reason Pan Breed didn't compete in the 2011 DDP: sending the email to, iirc, DDP2011(at)durbydeadpool(dot)co(dot)uk. (I'd have finished in the top 20 too!)

iirc Docherty actually replaced Denis Law for some after dinner speeches earlier this year because Law was too ill to give them. Dunno what was up with him though - might have been a cold.

Here's some video of him in that BBC Shankly doc from the other week. I'd say that extra decade hypothesized above might be slightly optimistic.

Here's one for folk in need of extra deadpool names. Was watching Dante's Peak on Film Four the other night. Fun volcano film from the 90s. Anyhow, the gran in it - Elizabeth Hoffman - was born in 1927 and is still going. A familar TV face, she was also in Stargate SG1 (recurring role), Thirtysomething, Sisters, Little House on the Praire, Star Trek and presumably many other shows that combine to give her a Guardian obit CV on her death one day in the future. One of those faces from US TV stuff back in the 80s/90s.

Earl Cameron is one of the great pioneering British black actors - one of the first black actors to play normal roles rather than ones created to be the black character. He was in Doctor Who when he got killed by the Cybermen: He's also in Thunderball as one of Bond's allies He was in everything from Neverwhere to The Avengers, from The Prisoner to Walking the Dead and Eastenders! He is now 100, and seemingly in decent nick for that age. Thus concludes the "who is Earl Cameron" answer post.
