  1. The test will be if actual good pop song Back for Good lasts or gets gubbed in the 94-95 one. As for Boyzone and Westlife, harsher imo. Maybe Boyzone might do better than expected (though I don't know if the general praise for the late Stephen Gately and this forum is much of a united venn diagram) - but Westlife were and are a pox on the eardrums.

    John Williams

The great man is at the Oscars, looking his age but better than a few years ago.
  4. Shakespeare Sister - Stay Bluebells - Young at Heart E's R Goode Sleeping Satelitte Rhythm is a Dancer Tiger is a Chancer (Tiger Tim still alive and 71 nowadays apparently!) Ain't No Doubt Living on my Own Meatloaf Would I Lie to You The ones I genuinely like. Some of the others are earworms from the time though.
  5. So Scottish one of them taught at Stow College, Glasgow. They also showed up on Still Game. They were part of the indy lot with Edwyn Collins in the early 80s, and Young at Heart was written by the aforementioned Bananarama sex symbol Ms Fahey, who was dating one of the Bluebells at the time. In the 90s, it was used for a long running car advert (Volkswagen, iirc?) and the public decided they loved it. Also, this was when Top of the Pops decided to can the mimed performances, and their copy of Young at Heart went too long in the instrumental bit, so the band would add bits on the show for fun - I remember them adding an impromptu reference to No Limit from the time, for example. (And note, I never said the Mr Blobby song was good at any point!)
  6. Mr Tumble and Noseybonk are creepy sods too - I think this is true of most kids stuff like that when you aren't the target audience at the time they're around?
  7. 1. I'm Too Sexy got stuck behind the never ending 16 weeks of Bryan Adams in 1991. I believe its one of the most successful songs to have been in the top 3 but never UK number one. Deeply Dipply got a bit of Previous Oscar Snub reaction, but was also a camp novelty hit at the time. Deeply dippy 'bout the curves you've got Deeply hot Hot for the curves you've got Shakespearean lyrics, right. Moving on... 2a. Kriss Kross were huge here, but lost number one to the KWS's saccharine Please Dont Go. Which often happens in the charts, but that lot had a B-side called Game Boy so I think they cynically nabbed the crucial sales off younger fans of the Nintendo megabeast at the time too. Like how Simon Cowell managed a top 5 hit in 1992 just by linking himself to the WWF wrestling. 2b. Sir Mix-a-lot didn't break the top 40 here. Needed more imported US 90s humour first... 2c. Snow's whingy middle class wannabe gangster rap did make the top 2, but the British public decided that Shaggy and the uber Scottish Bluebells were more worthy of the number one slot. They were right. Don't knock the Bluebells. Top bunch of lads. Plus one of them shagged Claire Grogan and Siobhan Fahey. 2d. Ah, Mr Blobby. To most - ie anyone over the age of 8 - he looked like an unfunny giant pink cock that harassed people. To the target audience, he was bloody hilarious, with his stupid language and falling down all the time. Basically, he was a kids TV entertainer who had 15 minutes of fame in the mid-90s. The team behind him put out a song in late 1993 thinking kids would get their parents to buy the single. It was cynical and a money grab. It worked. My parents refused to buy it for me, but luckily my uncle did - and apparently smirked at Dad as he handed over the present! It's not even a matter of taste. Wee kids aren't expected to have music taste. They just like stupid things falling over. Which Mr Blobby did for a few months, then got forgotten. That Mr Blobby prevented Take That having a Christmas number one, however, will never NOT be hilarious.

So downvoted a cover which always annoyed me. Also, if a 90s lad can admit Relight My Fire (or indeed, any Take That song) has some merit, it must do.

    Deadpool Detective Work

I take it you know from Dr Who forums that Equity put out an SOS for his contact details so his royalties could be paid for him in 1976, and kept it doing it each year for a while, without response from him or anyone who knew him. In 2005, Equity did another attempt to search for Burridge, having kept his money for him, and it went to a dead end too. According to frequent Pertwee era extra Terrence Denville in this book, Bill Burridge was working an extra on Frontier in Space (Roger Delgado's last Dr Who, fact fans) when he suffered a near fatal seizure due to an allergic reaction, and had to move directly into a nursing home. It seems like he died within a few years of this, but without friends or family to contact Equity and possibly not even under the name Bill Burridge. Sorry, basically - that's as much as folk with far better links than I have got!
  11. Worryingly accurate! Your personality type is: Glaswegian GSBW-T Glaswegians are grumpy bastards, often serving as moany and tireless cynics.
  12. And I'm preparing my first reply to Sir Creep on his "WTF Britain" responses to the charts of 92-93! Almost like mind reading - we don't need Mystic Meg round here!
  13. 61 The Beautiful South – A Little Time 48 Adamski – Killer 38 Madonna – Vogue 32 Queen - These are the Days of our Lives +4 28 Beats International ft. Lindy Layton – Dub Be Good To Me 12 Snap! – The Power 5 The Clash — Should I stay or should I go -6 My controversial way of deciding is to upvote songs I like. While there's an obvious favourite in need of the help at the moment, I also like all of Seal's big 90s hits but Adamski doesn't need my help (and would be 2nd place). As for The Beautiful South, I prefer other songs of theirs, but I do love how a song can produce as varying reactions as Tom Ewing: To It's Just Rock n Roll: Can't imagine LadBaby inspiring anything other than "fuck off" by comparison!
  14. For all the contrarians who will no doubt jump out on social media, ain't no politician winning a popularity contest with a World Cup "hero" or David fucking Attenborough. And if you don't like being compared to authoritarian fuckwit governments of history, immediately cracking down on dissent is a bad way to disassociate yourself with it! Also this happened yesterday:

    American Football Players

A NFLer so famous I've heard of him (which is a very high bar) but as he's apparently not in The Simpsons or a WWF/E celebrity, I have no idea how now! Non-unique DDP hit for forum veterans @deadsox!

    Punt Pool

Since I picked my team Russell Grant - got cancer found early, in remission Steve Buscemi - my "90s actor" theory was correct. But for Ray Liotta, who I didn't think of. John Goodman - Has actually gone on a health kick since this started and lost a lot of weight through a better diet (and tbf, cool!) Michael Barrymore - Not been in the news as much since that dad died. Art Garfunkel - No more in danger than any rock star in their early 80s. Not so much a punt pool as a gift of life!

He's talking philosophically and it got Daily Mail'd up. Still, one of those sure-fire nonagenarian DL picks to come.

Was given weeks to live in 2021 so went into a hospice, didn't die so took himself out of hospice. Very ill now (cancer has spread up to his neck and throat making speaking difficult) and expects to go at any time now, but hasn't yet.

Two great bands who are iconic in their own fields, produced a lot of great music, and whose number one songs are pale commercialised imitations of the bands at their best!

Didn't recognise him at all - blimey. Also, that was a fucking ordeal getting that photo to go on the forum. Facebook, DL and my phone having a huge falling out - then the sodding laptop wanted to do a fucking update and crashed.
