Ah, the 1945 DDP - providing it was under 2007 rules, you could have a team with: Bogdan Filov Eric Liddell Lord Alfred Douglas David Lloyd George Wilhelm Canaris Franklin Roosevelt Ernie Pyle Benito Mussolin Clara Petacci Adolf Hitler Eva Braun Joseph Geobbels Martin Borman Heinrich Himmler Margot Asquith Bela Bartok Pierre Laval Vidkun Quisling Cosmo Lang And still lose out because some sod knew the name of the Japanese Navy commanders, or had taken a punt on Patten, or knew Benchley was unwell, etc.

I now have images of this forum a century ago in my head, and some wag running a DDP theme team for WW1 front line poets.

I was going to make a snarky comment but who knows, she might have covered it.

DL Status Updates: Statements, Obsevations & Verbal Tennis
msc replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
The GRO charges £9.20 and postage - which isn't too bad until you realise to fullify explore a branch of your family tree you need a death, marriage and birth certificate for both partners in a marriage, then you may well need marriage certificates for ex-wives to verify names or you might need birth certificates of siblings (unless you're lucky enough to have parish records transcribed or are able to get down to the local record office for where they were born). Oh and often to easily access the record indexes (with no actual records) you're paying by the month anyway. And then you get the helpful ancestors who've been extremely vague in filling out form locations and have common names. A good site for those of you who are into genealogy is here - loads of helpful folk. Ancestry is a useful website too, but its search engine is a bit wonky at times. "No, Ancestry.co.uk, I'm pretty sure that's not my grandfather. No, if my grandfather had lived in Accrington and died fifteen years ago, I think I might have remembered it. Next option? Emigrated to New Orleans in 1970? Behave!" -

About £7-£12 a pop up here depending on what you want, as we found out trying to get a copy of my great-grandfathers death certificate. (It was a common name, we were down to three options in the end, so had to order all 3 - luckily, one was right!) Mind you, I have a long deceased relative who has records under five different names online because her handwriting was so awful, different people keep making different guesses at her name. -
Damn! *crosses name off long list*

Rock Hudsons would have been interesting - probably started with a bunch of wild mass guessing about his travels to France ala Val Kilmer posts on here and some inuendo, before it slowly became apparent that he was ill, seriously ill, AIDS, dead. Mid-July, he makes a public appearance, people go "he must be seriously ill", 25th July confirmation of AIDS, end of August, hospice, people doing the whole "Just 4 months to go, Rock" and "Number 1 on the Deathlist next year surely!" "No, I think it'll be this Swedish Eurovision singer no one has heard of" "Hey, anyone thought of Christopher Isherwood and Phil Lynott for the 1986 Deathlist?" "Don't be daft, Lynott's not dying any time soon" And I digress. Then in October, he dies, and there's a lot of swearing and tearing up of 1986 DDP teams. Meanwhile, someone - let's call them Ben Elton's Showbiz Pals, at random - gets to be smug because they were a unique in their own pool. Rita Hayworth would have been interesting, because she was ill so long she makes Zsa Zsa Gabor look a swift case, and she would have probably had a very, very long thread.

Can you work it so that it comes across like you are doing the family a favour? Say, casually asking about the finances, offering to help, "Hey, did your dad still have that boat?", etc?

Frank Miller's been on my long list for years. He's clearly suffering from something, and there's a lot of cancer chatter on other forums, but no smoking gun other than appearance. As ghastly as he looks, some people just look like hell with treatable cancers, and others, from personal experience, look reasonably well with killers right near the end.

Even if they weren't family, per say, anymore, still sympathy for your own personal loss.
-
I was tempted to put him in this as I'm sure I saw something on here ages ago about him being in poor health.

Swimmer Chad le Clos's very quiet and emotionless dad, Bert, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Also, his mum has cancer too, but she seems to be on the mend.

Tory MP Gordon Henderson survives a close encounter with petrol and a bonfire. Reminds me of the following scene after the Glasgow Airport attempted attack in 2007. FOX news (or something) journalist: Can you describe what the car looked like? Glaswegian Guy: Well, you know how when you chuck an aerosol onto a bonfire? It was like that.

Hey, this thread has a subtitle! I thought they were all back for a second there...

Its a win/win for Deathlisters. Either he makes it, and they get to study form. Or he doesn't... It's only a win/win if he's still breathing on 1 Jan, though - loads of us who would have him next year gave him a miss in 2016 Re-reading what his "friend" said there's no evidence Strictly actually want him back, is there? True, although they have a trust "insider" too... "An insider said: “Obviously Bruce has been taking time out to recover from his op. Nobody would want to push him into it if he doesn’t feel he’s up to it, but he’s an icon and a big part of the show. We’ll start having those discussions with him a bit later in the year.” Also, The Mirror claims it was 2 aneurysms (not one) he suffered last year. Is this news or am I losing track of my Brucie Ill Health Trump Cards now.

Wants to make a comeback for the Christmas Strictly. Its a win/win for Deathlisters. Either he makes it, and they get to study form. Or he doesn't...

Australian international (hey, he has about 20 caps to his name) Christian Lealiifano, 28, diagnosed with leukemia.

You have Martin Peters on your mind so much you could be Jimmy Greaves in 66! I know that joke doesn't quite fit the facts, but so be it. If she got away with "shock" or what not, its a hell of a lucky escape.

The cameras went back once, she was motionless and then the part of the course was never shown again despite most of the riders yet to pass it. Ominous.

This is an orphaned post of sorts, but this sort of thread is the best place for it, without a "Who should go on the 2017 list" thread, and please, no one start that in effing August. Spoiler tagged for stupidly long One thing it does remind - years do even themselves out over the course, so we can expect at least four more deaths before the end of the year. Also, the Committee tend to react to underperforming years. So if 2016 does underperform, the 2017 Deathlist will be a cracker.

In that case, I think as it stands is: England 10 (Nick J x2, Whittaker's Choice, JoeRam, Deathlist.net, Living End x 3, Octopus of Odstock, Tonight Matthew) USA 5 (MT Graves, Otis, Fallen Sparrow, meet your maker x2) Italy 3 (David Quantick’s Showbiz Pals x3) Scotland 2 (Drunkasaskunk x2) *I've made guesses on Whittaker and Tonight, Matthew based on their names. Meet Your Maker might be Canadian and I think its mentioned on this forum at the time, but I can't be arsed searching. Of the top 6 in this years, I think (but could be wrong on Heading Nowhere/Golden Slumbers) we have 3 Americans, 1 English, 1 Italian and a Scot...

The CEO of Assura Group, Graham Roberts, had a bout with a form of 'tricky' cancer earlier this year, and when he had to step down from his role, he made my long list for 2017, though I was dubious about his Obit chances. Well, he died a month ago. That answers that!

Queenie is about due her return to the Deathlist. I give it four posts tops before some wag makes a Miranda Richardson reference.

We R in Control is not bad. Mind you, I am a big fan of Goin' Home, an obscure 9 minute track from Are You Passionate?, his (only, I think) album with Booker T from 2002.
