    Football

Even with safe standing, you'd have a site at least 2/3 times the size of the Nou Camp. There would be safety issues with half a million people and X amount of exits, also the height needed so each seat could have sight of the pitch. Also, I really doubt there's the demand. England can't even sell out Wembley with Brazil yet, let alone over 5 times the number of seats.

    Queen Elizabeth II

There was a clip from that same scene on Youtube a number of years ago where the Queen turns round and calls the Queen Mum "mummy". Which I liked.

    Curse Of The Eurovision

The 60 years of Eurovision documentary on BBC4 had archive footage of DDP favourites Teddy Johnson and Pearl Carr from back in 1959. Christ, they were shite.

    Queen Elizabeth II

It wasn't a "gaffe". It was a private conversation. She was being sympathetic to the police lady about the rude bastards she had had to deal with in the service of the country. I think that's a good thing. Yes but she was caught expressing her personal views and normally she is much more careful. Is age catching up with her for her to make this mistake? Anyway, don't mind me. I am just grasping at straws as usual. She's always chatted away with certain people. One time the mics are close enough to pick it up. These things happen. The Tories on Newsnight immediately blamed the Lord Chamberlain for the incident for not realising the mics were too close, incidentally. Anyhow, last time anything like this happened - with Charles being picked up on mic saying that he "couldn't stand that awful man" Nicholas Witchell - it actually improved the public standing of said royal! It seems like royal issues are far more of a story in Australia than they ever are over here.
  11. The idea has its attractions, but it wouldn't stop people from starting threads about, say, moribund nonagenarians who have just come to their attention. I don't see the point of starting a thread about someone who is just about to fall off the perch either. There's always a suitable generic thread. I certainly wouldn't start any threads on nonagenerians who come to my attention, as everyone knows. Whats that, you say? Robert Hardy is doing a talk at the Theatre Royal Winchester in July (on Churchill, naturally) to raise money for "a new children’s Emergency Department at Southampton University Hospital"? Very interesting...

    By-Election Bingo

Well, as one who doesn't follow politics that closely could someone give me (and anyone else in my position) a lowdown on the gossip; is this - allegedly - a cynical tactic used country wide to steal an election. Incidentally, re my post above, there's one PCC who also doubled as a Conservative election agent in a difficult looking position now. It's a financial trick. There are limits on constituency spending and on party spending, but the latter is obviously much higher a threshold. The Tory battle bus visited a whole bunch of swing seats in the campaign last year, and the people who used the bus were put up at hotels, fed, etc. All of this would have put each candidate above their spending threshold, so the Conservative party allegedly put it down as a national expense. However, allegedly, while the bus itself can be counted by the Electoral Commission as a national expense, the whole hoteling and feeding the actual people counts as a local expense. The investigations wont come to anything, I don't think, as from what I hear, allegedly this sort of thing goes on all the time to "balance" the books, from all parties, and its not in anyones alleged vested interests for the whole system to come crashing down.
  13. It also helps in the other way. A friend was diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas. Several years ago, perhaps, there would been a naturally panic here like with everyone else. Now, however, I was able to point out to them that this cancer was one of the more treatable ones these days, and more so if it were caught early, which it had.

FFS did a brief double take on that and thought we'd lost Captain Kirk! No, but it turns out Schallert appeared on an episode of Star Trek The only good one The Tribbles one.

    The EU Referendum Hokey Cokey

Summer, likely to be a warm sunny day with daylight until after 10pm, voting on a subject I suspect the vast majority of people don't give two shits about either way, despite the vocal loud minorities on both sides? It'll be around the AV referendum turnout, I'm guessing. I think you seriously underestimate how much the average person cares about having their say on the EU. Postal votes will massively help boost turn-out as well. I think the internet (and media) overestimates massively how much the average person cares. Still, we'll find out soon enough.

I reckon they'll be back together before Christmas. And I really stretched that time frame out longer than necessary.

Well, that means he was fit enough to walk to a hotel and get into bed. Still can't see Ozzy making mega-old age. Aye, and he'll be 69 before too long. It'll be a sad day when everyone's favourite insane drug taking attempted wife murdering loon who dabbles in music dies.

Acid reflex is a right bastard, sympathy, although obviously not as much a bastard as a heart attack. I did much the same recently, shooting pains down the arm and you immediately think "its the heart!" when it turned out to be a pinched nerve. Besides, LB, you need to outlive that brother in law of yours. So you can, I dunno, dance on his grave or whatever.

Apparently, this. Cheers. Thought it would've been the post confirming Clive Dunn, Ronnie Biggs or Thatchers death. I think they went a step further and disabled guest posts all together. Had assumed you were trawling historical posts, something I sometimes do, I wasn't even aware of those links. Surprised me to find myself there also, particularly in such lauded company, some of those on there are very worthy. I hadn't seen it at the time and it gave me a laugh.
