Not that anyone else cares about her beyond getting the deadpool points....but as someone who had heard of her before she got ill (see above), I can recommend her books. IMO there is a strong Doris Lessing influence to her work, although Diski might not agree with this assessment. Not a stranger to taxing mental states herself, Diski writes very eloquently about madness and, as well as some of her more recent tweets, Rainforest (1990, available here for just 1p + P&P) is an excellent example of a descent into insanity... After DDT's recommendation, I picked up a copy of Rainforest cheaply second hand. Our Jenny has a nice way with words, and the book flows along quite well. It is a bit obsessed with sex, and focuses on mental breakdown, and mother figure issues (who'd have guessed), and daddy issues (dear god, in one daydream the main character has in her rainforest, distinctly graphic daddy issues!). Recommended to folk who like gripping descents into the maelstrom of the mind, or, alternatively, books with scenes of student/teacher adultery. Decided not to follow this up in Diski's actual thread, as that's more with her tweets and the whole dying thing.

EDIT - Had to delete a post put in the wrong thread, because Idiot. What would Diski say? Jenny Diski @diski Apr 10 Cambridge, England Sorry bewildered Yep. Ignore.

Now I've had a chance to read it over, sounds like an interesting idea, Biblio.

Who were the allegedly crap mods? I'm completely lost here. And, aye, hope, MH is alright, wherever he is.

DDT is usually fairly active when not on travels. Pretty sure the other two showed up in chat this year, so have been about. Not that I'm particularly bothered.

Have Davis and White had an overlong match which experts claim is the greatest thing ever, but was actually dull as dishwater to get through too?

According to the official fan website, Blake's dead!

More of a surprise he lasted so long, to be honest. And in fact, that so few of the ECW mainstays have joined the choir invisible, given all those unprotected headshots and casual shared bleeding. Axl's tag partner, Balls Mahoney, dead too. He was a good guy to watch wrestle when you were 14 years old. Well, I say wrestle, I mean randomly come out to the ring and hit people in the head with chairs.

msc replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
My Nostradamus radar went off, as soon as I heard Gest was dead, I thought "I bet Deathray is claiming this as victory". And he didn't prove me wrong. -
According to Labour types in the know on social media, former Labour MP Mildred Gordon has died aged 92. A 2nd hit for The Honourable Member for DDP North when a qualifying obit (or indeed, any obit) shows up.

There was a time on Just A Minute When Gyles Brandreth had the subject and was in full flow so Nicholas Parsons didn't ring the bell at the end of the minute and just let him go on to see how far he could go. I used to think he was a self opinionated idiot but I began to hear him on the radio more and I think he is actually someone who knows what he is talking about. However whilst I am at it I will throw in Chris Evans. He is clearly a very talented polymath within his own field. He's still irritating as hell.

Or perhaps not, as a check of the 1956 final gives us 6 players allegedly still alive, with a score of 5-1 to Stade Reims. Bet they'd have loved that at the time. Francisco Gento (b. 1933) is the only player from the original winners still alive. As for Reims, French legends Raymond Kopa (b. 1931) and Michel Hidalgo (b. 1933) are still going, as are, apparently, Raoul Giraudo (b. 1932), Robert Siatka (b. 1934) and Jean Templin (b. 1928), though those latter three are rather more obscure.

Real Madrid centre back in their 1966 European Cup final victory, Pedro de Felipe, dead at 71. Probably not that many years away from being able to do lists of surviving early European Cup winners.

I think I picked up around 40 points in March, give or take, and if my maths is at all accurate, that's nowhere near the new record. (I shall aim not to spoil the suspence, however!) I don't recall three popular individual hits worth 10 points (plus jokers galore) all going in the same month before.

How former fast scoring DDP years looked, in terms of hits, at this point in the year: (Spoiler tagged to avoid taking up space)

9 years ago, the great Kurt Vonnegut died. So it goes.

You were right about Cruyff, so that's a +1 swing if you think about it. As for Sir Creep, I might be *slightly* smug.

NO MORE MR NICE GUY! 7/50 10th April 2016 Welsh ambassador, ex-drug smuggler and best selling author Howard Marks has died aged 70 after a long battle with cancer to give The Crowdsourced Deathlist another success. Known as Mr Nice after the name on a fake passport, Marks was loosely affiliated with both M16 and the IRA in the 1970s, and made fifty grand per shipment at his peak. Arrested in 1988 by the DEA, he was sentenced to twenty-five years in jail, of which he served seven. Post prison, he realeased an acclaimed autobiography, ran for parliament, and became one of the older statesmen of the cuddly counter culture establishment. An acquiantance of crime bosses, world leaders and former members of the Deathlist forum alike, Marks is the 7th hit in a blistering start for the first ever Crowdsourced Deathlist,

Twitter chatter says dead. Not yet confirmed by news sources. In potentially related news, I quite like curly-wurlys.

I've always maintained that ABBA's music improved ten fold once they all started divorcing and hating each other. Mamma bloody Mia or The WInner Takes it All? No contest imo.

Sorry for your loss, Shaun.

Hang on a minute, we'll just get Shaun of the Dead to go phone him up and find out...

I was going to say "I'm not very good at looking up GoFundMe" but when I went to add his name to my provisional 2017 list, I found he was already there! And there's no prior mention of him on this forum! I have no recollection whatsoever of finding out about this.
