30th to 21st place 30. Mary Tyler Moore, forum favourite, 175 points 29. Glen Campbell, Rhinestone cowboy, 183 points 28. Ian Brady, 190 points 27. Sumner Redstone, steak lover, 193 points 26.. Stephen Hawking, 195 points 25. Joost van der Westhuizen, rugby player, 209 points 24. Leslie Philips, cad, 215 points 23. Valerie Harper, 217 points 22. Denis Norden, my word, 226 points 21. Herman Wouk, writer, 256 points Deathlist forumites keep faith with Valerie even if the main site doesn't. Joost got on the list, seemingly begrudgingly, few folk had him in their top tens, and he slowly crept up the list. Sumner Redstone had an early flourish to rise this high, and then a strong finish.

40th to 31st place 40. Ian St John, footballer, 125 points 39. The Former Pope Benedict XVI, retired God man, 126 points 38. Sinead O'Connor, singer, 129 points 37. Desmond Tutu, apartheid activist, 135 points 36. Joey Feek, cancer singer, 136 points 35. Jenny Diski, Child of Lessing, 140 points 34. Johan Cruyff, turn, 152 points 33. Mikhail Gorbachev, 158 points 32. Liliane Bettencourt, lotsa money, 165 points 31. Robert Mugabe, dictator, 173 points Sinead O'Connor, really? Still, thats democracy for you. Feek and Diski didn't feel Deathlisty, but the voters pushed them up - they're certainly ill enough. Gorbachev was top 10 after the early votes, then his votes dried up entirely, and he nearly crashed out entirely.

Voting has now closed, and the votes have been tallied up. I can confirm the following people just missed out: Lupita Tovar, Ayatollah Khamenei, Lys Assia, Peter Vaughan, Paul Gascoigne, June Brown, William Russell, Jimmy Greaves, Peter Maxwell-Davies, Caroline Aherne. There was nearly 400 picks in all, but those were the ones that came within 10 points of a spot at the end. Edited as Handrejka pointed out a duplicate Ian St John.

Welcome to the Deathrace, Sir Creep - best wishes from the 2015 Champion.

I said congrates in the chat, but I'll repeat it here for a sense of permanence. Three in a row, its a no mean feat!

Bruce Forsyth Now I've sent off my DDP team, here's the Death by Numbers lot. No one from my DDP (there are a few from the theme teams though) so no issues in posting it here. Plus Hartlepool, Deathrace and Rotten deadpool folk to round up to 50. This includes my DDP rejects, and at least one person who was originally going to be my DDP joker! Good luck with the competition.

The list of the "couldn't wait a few more weeks"... 14.11.2015: Nick Bockwinkel 6.12.2015: Holly Woodlawn 17.12.2015: Jimmy Hill 17.12.2015: Greville Janner 26.12.2015: Darren Tandy 29.12.2015: Pavel Srnicek 31.12.2015: Howard Davis Jr Plus people like Brian Sewell, Mankell etc but they were always touch and go.
-
Don't worry, it counts as a 2015 death, and the first substitute you list will go onto your team as a replacement. Speaking from experience!
-
Will Howard Davis Jr obit in 2016? I'll say no. Makes it fourteen DDP squad candidates to have died early now.
-
Team sent in. Luckily, I checked each name from google as I was typing, as someone died during the night. This brings Dr Granger back into the Pan Breed line up, after originally being dropped.
-
One to watch, or listen to: the increasingly frail Baroness Campbell of Surbiton (who has outlived her life expectancy with a nasty form of spinal muscular atrophy by nearly sixty years now) is guest hosting the Today programme on Radio 1 on January 1st. She'll be debating Matthew Parris on the right to die.
-
Nah, 2 months life expectancy feels more like an announcement this week, and him using the January gigs, if he could make them, as a sort of George Melly-esque last stand. It's just one of those things.
-
The only precedent I can think of is Steve Fossett, who went missing in 2007, and was found in 2008. It was clear he'd died as soon as his plane crashed, so those who picked him in 2008 were shit out of luck. So close to the new year, its hard to say, but precedent would suggest not to pick them.

So, How's Your 2016 Shortlist Looking?
msc replied to Spade_Cooley's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Didn't the fireman version die a few months ago? There might be two entirely different DDP candidates who also have namesake American fireman, of course. -
Compared to some of the more eclectic choices nominated so far...
-
Bloody hell. He always seemed like the type of person to have the Reaper on a restraining order. Remember his immortal life lessons: "The secret to not dying is to keep breathing." Might have forgotten that one at the crucial moment there, Lem.

I've got 17 locked in, about 7 on a standby list, and am waiting till the 30th to see if anyone announces ill health as I missed Mr Dickens (Little) and Mr Goggins (MP) in recent years. There's also Mary Wilson and Clare Hollingworth on a standby to the standby list, in case, you know, half the team decide to take method acting in a Titanic revival too far tomorrow...

The 2015 Drop Forty looking into 2016: the Play Your Cards Right attempt. (By higher, I expect more teams to have the person. By lower, fewer...) 1 Zsa Zsa Gabor 195. The arrival of three ballots in my inbox today reminds me to the give the 4 day warning for anyone still wanting to send in a team of 50 contenders.
