Had some caps for the Under 20s. Was playing in Bosnia at time of his death, which is a bit of a football backwater.

Actually, looking it up - Carrington in 2018 and Kasem in 2014 I knew. But in 2006, Charles Haughey was announced dead just before South Korea/Togo took the field. In 1998, that Tommy Boyd own goal in Scotland/Brazil was too much for Catherine Cookson, and Roy Rogers died the same day as France/Croatia in the semifinals. Kim-il Sung died in between the last sixteen and the quarterfinals in 1994 - rumours I made up abound he was just too excited for Holland/Brazil. So 5 World Cups out of 8, a DL tradition then. I love coincidences.

It's a World Cup tradition for a game to be disturbed by news of a DL hit. I say tradition, it happened in 2014 and 2018, so that's twice in 30 odd years...
  5. I'd say there are genuinely 6 great songs still in contention at the top here.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Won the FA Cup with Saints, was an England regular goal scorer in the 70s but had the misfortune of playing for them when they didn't qualify for the World Cup!

He's got a big role in Christmas classic Jingle all the Way. 90s kids know who he is.

    Deathrace 2023

It is very much Mike Read. He wears his own biases on his sleeve. I won't comment on the politics of Right Said Fred's recent anti-lockdown song (they should be self-evident) but the song was also godawful. Sometimes you get The Starjets or Rory Gallagher but it's gone into a lull of MOR mediocrities at the moment. It is useful though - Don Powell was on it soon after his health issues, and Ray Dorset's been on a few times. So worth it for form spotting but tbh, I'll mention anything worth knowing on forum!

    Deathrace 2023

He was on Mike Read's Talking Pictures show about 3 weeks ago! You might want to give it a look (Heritage Chart) - can't promise the music is up your street but he does drag random interviews out of aging musicians.

    The 2023 Crowdsourced Deathlist

May be a delay of a week or two in adding new lists to the overall masterlist, due to suffering a close family bereavement. Everything's kept and we'll be up to date soon, along with all the Leslie P subs. Just in case people think "Why hasn't he seen my PM yet?"

    Doctor Who

Oh aye, the post-79 status continued long after she left - I just meant that OFITN probably wouldn't have been shown on TV at the height of the miners strike! This England is horrific. I don't recommend it. Yes, the government figures in it all think they're great, but they're clearly cunts. It focuses on all those ordinary people who catch covid because of government fuck up and every single one of them die. Worse, all of them are based on real life people who actually died. Horrendous. Only watching it in small bits at a time because it's making me so angry. It's worse than House of Cards. House of Cards is about an intelligent bastard. And its fiction. This England is about an incompetent vainglorious fool who risks peoples lives chasing after windmills, surrounded by a team made up of the Peter Principle, doing nothing while Rome burns all around them, only to add petrol to the fire. And it's not fiction.

    Doctor Who

There was Help in 2021 with its 12 minute one take of Jodie Comer trying to save the covid patient. It was quite no holds barred (and accurate, apparently) about what was happening in the care homes, though Act 3 went a bit mad (though not by Skins levels, of course) and even then, the "it's too soon" brigade were loud in criticism. Still, it won the BAFTA that I predicted watching it on broadcast. There is still your thoughtful TV imo but censorship from high is a hell of a thing at the moment (your sanitised It's A Sin was post-heavy censoring on what was allowed to be shown) and so a lot of it sneaks out on genre TV because there's still this prejudice that SF or horror can't possibly say anything to critique the world. (That's how Rod Serling got away with half the stuff he said about American society in The Twilight Zone!) Also, there's a whole lot of TV fluff it can got lost in! Mind that Our Friends in the North showed Thatcherism's impact on their northern town a decade after the events. That This England thing at the moment, if it wasn't hidden on some Sky Channel, would bring down the government imo. Even with Branagh's godawful Boris Johnson impression.

  18. I wouldn't have it in my top 10 Queen songs, or even top 20, probably, but then they are one of the most consistently great bands there was, imo.

    Falling Fauna

Good idea. The number of Animal Antics posts that would go something like "the funny dog that said Hi to people on Twitter" "died of terminal sadness today after its owner shot themselves" was a bit depressing!
  20. You better! I'm all ready to go "Oh feck, Hits of 36 years ago is now AFTER the year of my birth!" (By "you better" read it would be nice to see.)

    Political Frailty

Dorrans had a really bad case of covid and nearly died. It's taking a while for his health to get back to normal. Callaghan as I said has had several health setbacks. No idea on Nicolson. He was still in the commons last week.

    Political Frailty

Amy Callaghan is one. Very ill. Had a nasty stroke and cancer too. Will presumably retire at the next election. Only about 30 too.

Jane Fonda. She'll be on a number of DDP teams next year for good reason after all.

    World's Oldest

The Cathedral city of Arles, where she was part of the upper class. The number of people who have known both her and her husband and daughter well, and chose to keep the switch secret, is so many that it stretches my own credulity, I'm afraid. I mean, several hundred French people KEEPING a secret for 90 years? No way! And if there was a switch, for personal financial reasons, what the vested interest for all these people keeping secret? But in general I stick to three things: 1. Occams Razor, the simplest explanation is usually the most reasonable. 2. If new research is exciting, it's usually wrong. 3. The obsession with the exact age of super-centenarians is fucking weird. "Oh what month was Kane Tanaka born in, this changes EVERYTHING!" I blame Fauja Singh.

Who will still alive beyond year 2030?

I was thinking "Is this deadpool picks or deadpoolers?"
