You seen Under the Shadow? Might not be your thing. Genuinely one of the best horror films of the last decade. It's by an Iranian director, and was filmed in Qatar (for obvious reasons), and is about a young mother raising her daughter during the Iran-Iraq war in a bombed out flat, where something supernatural has moved in upstairs. Even if horror isn't your cup of tea, point is, there's a bit where you get the big BOO scene, and our main character does the sensible thing of running away as fast as she can... only to run into the police, who immediately arrest her and start harassing her for not being dressed appropriately and basically being bigger threats than the fucking ghost. Because the film says, yes, you were enjoying this horror film, but the actual real-life horror there is even worse.

Brilliant, my attempts to bring some class and respectability to the DDP work for once!

Thanks. Still worth posting.

Top man, David McCallum is properly DLy,, one of the all time greats. I was just surprised he didn't have a thread when so many lesser folk do. (Just repost that birthday photo here, since it's his own thread now.)
-
David McCallum turned 89 yesterday, already mentioned in the Birthday thread. This photo shared on Facebook was worth posting, however. Dunno if it was recent or old (his family member may know!) but too good not to share regardless. Also, I am legit shocked David McCallum doesn't have his own thread. He's David McCallum!!!!

Although, warning, sometimes you drunkenly offer help if needed one night, and then, before you know it, you are co-host of the Derby Dead Pool.

Some folk would have aneurysms if they were around in 2014!

Showed up on this week's Talking Pictures to promote I Say Woman, his new song. Bit weather worn, but well enough to travel to England, be interviewed, and then do a live performance.

Although I remember my wife's ancient uncle insisting on walking up to her gran (his sisters) funeral "for respect", and he died about 3 months later. Never rule out determination and a stubborn will. I suspect both the Duke and Duchess are near the top of the list for 2023 list newcomers.

Thoughts and Opinions on the 2021 Deathlist
msc replied to Charles De Gaulle's topic in DeathList Forum
@gcreptile There's a well-known Kate Williams (bubbly red-head historian) who is CNN's go to for big British events. And the considerably more obscure Kate Williams, who used to read the news on BBC radio, and she was the one with cancer. -
Note that not only is Lady Antonia Fraser the widow of Harold Pinter, someone with a Wiki and the daughter of Lord Longford... she is also a well respected historian, broadcaster, and thriller author. She wrote Quiet as a Nun, which became a cult classic horror mini-series under Armchair Thriller in the 1970s. She's done a number of biographies, and she survived an IRA bomb in the 1970s. As Toast puts it, very famous. Will even get a Sun obit when she goes (ahem).

Neither of them are as ill as you'd like.
-
Earl Holliman, mad shagger, apparently. That'll be @Gooseberry Crumbleswooning now.
-
Real life, they were a couple in the 1960s.
-
Will be proper end of an era stuff when Earl Holliman goes, as the star of the first Twilight Zone episode. (Yes, I know there was pilot filmed a year before, it doesn't count.) He also shagged Jane Fonda, so some DDPers might fancy a two for one deal next year.

Birth name Henry, actual name Harry was very common in Britain up till fairly recently.

Legit surprised Fritz Pleitgen is an extremely solo for me in this game.

It's cited, but it's a weird hodge podge of speculation and actual announcements. As an example, the Canadian Prime Ministers information comes from Trudeau himself, so is presumably accurate. The Duchess of Kent is however based on a Telegraph article that... doesn't mention her at all. (In fairness, it may have done in an earlier draft, but the Telegraph article is speculation and conjecture, not hard fact.)

If there was any nearby bee they could open a hardware store.

Yodas on the in-laws side. He won't make the funeral though, terrible case of being dead. And fictional. Sorry if that spoiled a forty year old film for folks.
-
I looked away for ten minutes, saw the latest replies and thought: man, I didn't know Canadian politics got folk so worked up!
-
I do genuinely believe he needs to go on the DL asap as he won't see 90.

Noting both Brian Mulroney and Joe Clark have opted to remain in Canada when given the choice to attend. They are both in their 80s, though Clark was recently active. The Canadian past PM's delegation suggests to expect a few extra aged faces from elsewhere too.

My introduction to the great man during childhood wasn't actually Star Wars - it was The Simpsons. What a voice. (And also, weirdly, actually one of the best Poe adaptations!)
-
Did we know that he's not been replying to fan mail since 2018, citing age AND health reasons? Hmm, maybe worth a DL call up sooner than later.
