So am I! But then my oldies team only has 20 spots and about 120 contenders.
-
@Toast are all these "Nah, I wasn't born at the time" posts making you feel any better? I have my doubts!
-
Shame. It was nice to have one of the speaking cast from one of my favourite 40s films still with us.
-
Nolan seems more obviously on the decline than Olivia NJ was start of the year. She'll return imo. Doherty is the one I'm unsure about.
-
Quoting this for when it dates as well as "Abe Vigoda is getting better" and "Fats Domino could easily see 90".

Wrestlers from the Sammartino era still tend to peg out in their 70s or early 80s. Even folk like Larry the Ax and Bruno themselves. Those who make 85+ are outliers. Ivan Putski could become one (I don't see his son getting close to his age though), but if Abdullah gets into the 85+ range it will be a miracle worthy of Drol's immortals list. Also, Ivan Putski full time run with the WWF only ended in 1987. He was there for ages. Pre-dated the Superstar and Bob Backlund eras, and was still there as enhancement in the era of WrestleMania 3. The sort of longevity in one company which is far more common these days than it was back then.

Hmm. Trintignant - Maybe, maybe not. Poitier - DL hit ONJ - former DL pick Tom Smith - former DL pick Vitti - Nah, not big enough in UK Parker - Not their type of pick June Brown - DL hit Lovelock - Felt DLy but they ignored him for some reason Nichols - A surprise omission. Perez - Never thought he'd get close Weiskopf and Elford - Felt like names they might go for in the right mood. Steiner - No chance Burgess - No chance

I, for one, am stunned by this news. I actually called something correct in the DDP in 2022?
-
Not to be Captain obvious but I think Toast meant on original broadcast! At which point my parents weren't even in school yet.
-
The Hollywood Heights one to be specific.
-
Iirc Russell lived near Cricklewood which is a few miles away from Denville. Glynis Johns is in a Belmont senior village in the US.
-
Just to pick one, John Gorrie has long had a reputation for having the energy and health of someone a good 15 years younger than he is. He's got multiple conventions booked in the next year.
-
Big bit on Willie Nelson paywalled in the NYT. But according to the gist, Willie Nelson is still recovering from being gravely ill with covid in May, to the point his family thought he was going to die. He's performed on stage since then, because he's Willie Nelson, of course.

Me - If Russell gets a thread, can we merge all the posts about him there to declutter? A normal admin - Oh piss off, its Saturday. DI - Cool, give me a minute. Top work.
-
Nice work! Beyond The Great Escape and Superman and his obvious famous roles, I also quite like Death Watch, a SF flick set in rundown 70s Glasgow by the late Bertrand Tavernier. William Russell has a role in that as a corrupt doctor!
-
Worth noting (reminding folk) he was actually a huge TV name before Doctor Who even. He played Sir Lancelot in The Adventures of Sir Lancelot, which was a huge ratings draw nearly a decade before the kids time travel show. (And he filmed The Great Escape before Dr Who, too.) As for his own thread, I 100% agree he is DL worthy but there's a lot of posts all over the place about him so I'll leave the yes/no on thread to @Death Impends! Also, you know, I am very biased!

Spoiler tagged for future anniversary stuff - yes, I know the fact there's a spoiler tag in the first place is a spoiler.
-
Not much given those who know him are understandably guarded about it, other than saying "he's not well", but he has had age related issues for a while. After filming the 50th anniversary docudrama he agreed to a cameo in the 50th anniversary Dr Who story (filmed a few months later) but his health precluded it. Sometimes he'd be his old self, sometimes not. Apparently he was suffering memory issues towards the end of his Big Finish run. He did an interview with Talking Pictures about 5 years ago, and started brightly but you could see him tire and fade quickly, unlike the William Russell of old. tbh, people do get old.

Tbf you only said she was unwell in March. That might be behind the lack of DDP traction!
-
She had a line or two you'd like. "Billy Graham made me what I am today. Alcoholic." And when she was asked about her toyboy when she was very old: "ninety is the new thirty!"
-
Alas, no, that's from 2018. Well, I say alas, he's still alive which is good in itself, but its recorded before his health declined.
-
Not your greatest prediction, Biblio.

Happens here too. It's a Facebook bug. See also the newest posts never updating anymore, the entire page jumping if you try and reply to someone, etc etc. Useless website. (Apart from its few obvious uses which mean I haven't dumped it yet.)

In the last week (still to be updated, Reptiles away this week iirc) Bill Pittman Lenny Johnrose Duggie Brown August tends to be a quieter month. This one has been more active than in general due to a number of "where the hell did that come from" type deaths. In terms of the DDP, 97 hits to break the record, 134 days left in 2022.3 weeks behind 2020 at this point, so unlikely, but yeah, the DDP's still in its normal average form, even with a vast number of misses.

FFS. What's the point of being an award winning artist with international exhibitions if your stupid A list friends can't tweet some tears over your death? Ahem. tbf it was a reasoned gamble and it probably failed. Not as annoyed by this as the recent trend for the likes of Leon Lissek, Morris Perry, Sonny Caldinez and so on to not even get the briefest of death notices. Or when they can't be bothered to confirm an actual Bond film actor died, leaving the truth in a bunch of barely followed tweets no one of note picked up on at the time. Meanwhile if you farted on TikTok or reality TV in Venezuela or Mongolia, full page Mail obit. Just a lack of respect. Or press knowing folk died a while ago but just not being arsed to let anyone know. When Crem's "Will they even obit?" meme becomes an issue for actual celebs, while quasi-ones breeze through, it does lose a lot of the fun of the game, for me - and that's really anything any of the hosts can counter, because its the stupid British press being a bunch of stupid arseholes who couldn't analysis world events if it was written for Winnie the Pooh to understand.
