How come this years deathlist is doing so poorly?

And yet if 8 random old people on it died in September-December to get to the normal 12, would anyone be surprised?

    Derby Dead Pool 2022

Actually, not only did that team cost me money, and ruin my point by nearly half of them obitting, but it didn't even get that the most Lotl names record. Second to Seoul Takers or one of WEPs teams iirc.

    Thoughts On The 2022 List

If we get to August 30th, we will equal last years long gap.
  5. Not being a huge cinema goer, I've only seen more than one film by the same director at the cinema thrice. One was Speilberg who I rate as highly as the rest of the world. One was Peter Jackson's interminably long Lord of the Rings films, during a failed date. The third was Wolfgang Peterson, with Air Force One and The Perfect Storm. RIP

    Hollywood Possibilities

Seems a trend for Hollywood directors to go in their early 80s recently. Someone might want to pick Brian De Palma!

    Academic Footnotes

Mentioning as he was on my long list for the "interesting oldies" DDP team, but British historian Correlli Barnett died last month, shortly after his 95th birthday. Never picked for the DDP as an unlikely name outside of nerds like me or WEP, ahem. He got a Guardian obit for those testing the waters for aging academics. Speaking of old academics, Ranajit Guha recently turned 99. He is one of the legit big names in his field and will quite probably get full broadsheet obit when the time comes.

    UK Singles Chart

Colour Blind was number 1, and huge about... 20 years or so ago.

The reference to a certain forum regular actually made me roar with laughter.

    Ideas and possibilities for 2023

Yeah, he actually had an actual job for much of his 20s and 30s, working in a meat market. Then when he was in his early 30s, he got two job offers - driver for friends of the Krays, or stunt man. He picked stuntman, worked with HAVOC (the lot who did the stunt work in Jon Pertwee era Dr Who, you can see him in a lot of blink and miss it scenes from the time period) before transferring to acting instead, and handyman jobs in between. He was working as a labourer when he got the call for Eastenders. Last I heard he was still in good nick and still highly regarded as a decent chap, but that was pre-lockdown. Def. a DL name though - fascinating guy, big name,

    Comedians & Comedy Writers

The last two King Rats have died in their post - maybe a tip for folk for the 2023 DDP.
  12. Stephanie Cole still lives of course. She appeared in that Ken Dodd tribute on Five and still seems in fine form. But more importantly, she's now reached the same age as her character Diana in season one of sitcom classic Waiting for God, a mere thirty two years after filming!

Given her record they'll be joining forces on the Christmas number one with Ladbaby instead...

This always seemed likely as information came out on her injuries, I'm afraid.

    Aaron Ramsey

Should point out that when it started, he wasn't a prolific scorer. Hence rarity of goal, coincidence with some big name deaths. But he grew into a fairly regular 10 a season midfielder. Always sad when wacky theories are undone by competence.

Martin Bell just showed up on Talking Pictures for the UNICEF Ukraine appeal. His voice isn't what was, but though ill looking he looked better than he did a year ago. Thinking he may have been recovering from an illness rather than dying. Famous last words, I know.

    Dead Pop Stars

On the last line, Channel Five's recent historical charts shows for most bought singles pet year got to the 70s, and now has the elephant in the room where you have the talking heads all schmooze about how great the era was for music before we hit the embarrassed voice over letting everyone know the fifth best selling single of that year, for example, was Gary Glitter, and moving quickly on. Jackson notably doesn't get that treatment. Five couldn't bare to cancel Thriller alongside Two Little Boys.

Good spot. Didn't know he was still going, unless I saw him on ulitzers list and forgot.

If MTV hadn't been intent in "narrow casting" in the first place, it wouldn't be such a big deal. Anyhow it was Jackson after Bowie made a stink, no?

Yes. (That is if you got Cat news. If you just can't be arsed with folk, fair enough!)

    British Science Fiction Series

A new addition to the shortest time between Dr Who appearance and death. One of the young lads in Praxeus was killed last year aged 24, only about 20 months after the episode was shown. On phone so having a failure with links but that's horrific.
