  1. Incidentally, I might as well mention now that I intend to stand down as organiser of the Crowdsourced Deathlist at the end of this year, and so if forum members wish this thing to continue into a 4th year in 2019 and beyond, someone else will need to take over "host" duties. I was going to mention it later in the year, but I figured since it's decided, it might as well be mentioned now, to give others a chance to decide if they wish to take over.

Only Famous For Being Ill And Dying

Now that the BBC have covered it, we just need a Qualifying Obit to do so...

    Bob Dole

Apparently the following noteworthy Democrats died during the 2010 GOP wave year: Joe Biden’s mum, John Murtha, Charlie Wilson, Stewart Udall, Willard Wirtz, Ike Andrews, Thomas Ashley, Robert Byrd, Juanita Kreps, Dan Rostenkowski, Owen Pickett, Elizabeth Edwards, Richard Holbrooke. However, only Holbrooke, WIlson (due to the film) and maybe Byrd had any notoriety here, and nothing on the likes of Dole, McCain, Kissinger and the Bushes. In fact, trying to think of Democrat equivalents, I get stuck after Obama, Bill and Hilary, and Jimmy Carter... Oh, maybe Madeleine Albright, I remember her on the news a lot in the 90s, but a bit out of view now.

Threads go to 2004 looking on a laptop here? Oldest non-locked thread is this: Just goes to show, Deathlist certs getting grim diagnosis at the wrong time of year has been a tradition as long as the forums been around!

Don't give folk a challenge. The great Rikki Fulton's thread has gone without reply since February 2005, after all, on the spurious grounds that he's dead. How to spot he died before the mass Scot influx on this forum? None of the posters at the time have a clue who he fucking was, for shame!

"I never suspected it would be the bees! They've always been our friends!" Sort of a bee theme on this forum lately.

    The Deathlist Cup 2018

You know what today is? It's the last day to record an interest in participating in the 2018 Deathlist Cup! Will we have any last minute entries?

    The Deathlist Cup 2018

Aye and I like to think if I had decided the other way - I put a fair bit of thinking and research time into that pick - I'd given you nearly a fortnight to put in a sub! Harsh but fair, that's me.

    The Deathlist Cup 2018

They key would be to submit the team with enough time for the ref to say "yay or nay". Or at least remember the subs. As for that worst case scenario, well, that person would be an idiot. No offence intended! If you put a bad pick in your team and don't get back to me, the first sub will replace them.

    The Deathlist Cup 2018

I assumed the "cancer mum" ban would be straightforward! Since some people have submitted their teams early, Three rulings by the appeals committee so far: - One fringes of fame contender just scrapped in, as I found evidence of them being a known celebrity long before their illness. I took heed of the Letele precedent from last year. - I struggled on "oldest persons" for a long time. They don't really work on the old would they get an obit if they got hit by a bus theme, because of course an 117 year old getting hit by a bus would obit! In the end, I decided that since they have been an innocent part of deadpooling since the beginning of time, and since you could claim by its rarity its a notable thing, to allow them. For now. - However, the "I don't know how much time I have" cancer mums were blocked, even if they had written a book. I had thought the rule more clear than it was. The exceptions are very much rarities. Kate Granger and Jane Tomlinson for example, transcended their status through public deeds over a LONG period of time to become household names. Ian Toothill conquering Everest with terminal bowel cancer was such a ridiculous feat it sort of blows the thing to pieces, but they are rarities. The vast majority of these people don't even pretend to qualify. The Cancer Whisperer, to pick another example, is never going to get a mention on the BBC News or the like. Nor was your Lisa Magills or your Paul Briggs, who literally got hit by a car and thus obitted. I apologise for not making this rule clear enough, apparently, but genuinely, a good rule of thumb: if you google someone, and what you get as the top stories are "terminally ill mother" stories, rather than their own achievements/Wiki page/some form of noteworthy reference, then they aren't going to be accepted here. It's not perfect but I never said I was. Onwards.

    Death By Jazz

It's alright. Depends on the musician, really. Louis Armstrong was great but on the whole not a music genre I immediately gravitate towards.
  15. msc

    Ya like Jazz?

Hope Spade doesn't see this and immediately ban bee-teams from the DDP like folk were calling for.

I was hoping for the Wasp, this is the B-side. Shout out to my favourite crap forum joke of 2017 there...

iirc she is fully revealed as the new Number 2 by end of the episode. So she counts even if she is credited under a disguise.

Rachel Herbert, the twist ending Number 2 from Free for All (sorry if you've not seen it), is still with us, born 1935 iirc. Nesbitt still going, yes, though his career pretty much died a death after being convicted of domestic assault.

    The Deathlist Cup 2018

Of course, that happens, and Joey will never believe any random draw which pairs you both up isn't rigged. PS This means Spade is unseeded. Perhaps not what he wants while fixing up the DDP, but at the same time, who wants the task of taking him in Round 1? Or Dead Cow or G Creptile or indeed many other dangerous first round opponents.
  20. Aye, 56 points in the end. Jessica Falkholt got about 30 points too. As far as I can see quickly glancing over my notes, no one even pretended for a moment Bobby Zarin was Deathlisty however.

    The Dead of 2018

That is a shame. Brilliant actor, though one who could make Brian Blessed look restrained at times. As mentioned by many of us in the past, well known for his boozing, and his doctors said he should have died before the age of 60, so to make it to 90 is pretty good going.

    The Deathlist Cup 2018

I'd prefer a nice round number like 32 - easier on my maths skills, but the more the merrier.
