Yer in Year 5 now AND got brought back from a ban the last time, I think that ship has passed by now?
-
Yer a funny guy, charon! Actually I was going to point out the flaw, but I wont in case someone somewhere saw your post and started panicking.

Pete Maravich's famous quote being "I don't want to play 10 years and then die when I'm 40."
-
Possibly unless I've missed another death elsewhere! Very closely run contest though, I couldn't call it at this point.
-
Don't laugh, my joker didn't die last year - so this is 8 points (?) more than then! My stats analysis had her expected expiry date* as March 2018, so I should have seen this coming, but I was having a crisis of research confidence when I sent my Hare's team in. *Not as ghoulish as it sounds, merely the upper limit of life expectancy for her illness, after which time she'd become an outlier.** ** Ok, maybe as ghoulish as it sounds.

The sad demise of Rayya Elias brings points for: rad jireomon joey msc chorizo drol grim None for the Cow so I think there's a new leader, and of course, more points for Drol, who still seems very dangerous in this pool.

Another Deadpool win for DI! Well done. Wracking them up now! I really ought to update the HOF.

Hello, @maryportfuncity, you've actually got me on the scoreboard twice, I should have 727 points instead of 2 360 pointers... Hey, it'd be only my second lead in 8 years of the competition, the other being the very day I won it, so can't blame a guy for basking in the Indian summer!

And all of them hit the fame criteria, because they were known by folk pre-illness. Even if you were, for example, a really obscure Trinidadian historian, you were still known by others within that field or discipline pre illness.

She was known for the writing before the cancer or the Elizabeth Gilbert bit though. To the point I'd heard of her, but not her apparently famous writer wife!
-
RIP. She did remarkably well to make it this far with 2 vicious strands of cancer imo.

One of my favourite obits was for Robert de la Rouchefoucauld, full of escaping executions, blowing up Nazi ammo dumps and send sarcy messages to the Brits by morse code. Alas, I found out years later the entire thing was nearly 100% made up, but hell, if in doubt, print the myth! Nah, this forum has brought me to new TV, new authors, new music I wouldn't have stumbled across otherwise.
-
It would depend on the individual, really.
-
Ignoring those who have left the forum - Rocky, Switch, Chopped Liver and the Kid. There's 3 competitors from 2017 left to confirm or deny a spot in this years version: Jireomon, Garn and Charon! And newcomers welcome! We already have 2!

DR has considerably jumped the gun, don't worry. First round is drawn on the 20th January and teams come in from then till end of the month. There was 2 coin tosses last year, but in general, matches wound up decided by scorelines. When there was a score draw, average age came into consideration (so lowest average age won) - iirc, someone lost out because one of their scores came from Emma Morano, the super-centenarian! The 4 and 3 scoring system *should* make the coin toss less likely too. Famous last words.

As I said, when I first heard about her illness (before I posted it on the forums for the Mail to spot ), I mentioned her name to the wife, and her response was immediately "Oh yeah, her!" in a sad voice without prompting as to who it was. So yeah, name value with non-deadpoolers.

Now I'm being reminded of the Two Ronnies Mastermind sketch... "Who is Dean Martin?" "He's a sort of an artist." "Can you be more specific?" "Pass." "Close enough."

Doreen Mantle is in yesterday's episode of Father Brown, fyi.

It's an off forum one and the thead started because I noticed a lot of us were in the 2018 edition. Perhaps if the thread grows, we can all give it a shot in 2019, or something?
-
I'd assume that's read from the context? ie "They've cut the NHS but hey at least we have blue passports". I know there are people who actually think this without intended humour of course.

Ah, Deathray, I refer you to Rule 6: 6. If in doubt, submit a pick, but the decision of the ref (me) is final and is not open to any court of appeal. If you think it’s a dodgy pick, it probably is. Which should be taken in conjunction with Rule 5 (prohibited peoples) and not as leeway. You might well think the person picked is allowed, but those exceptions to Rule 5 are remarkably rare cases (imo) and the ref's decision on this particular matter is final. Thank you. But to be specific, I meant if the person goes onto do some noteworthy ie that might show up on a cursory first page Google search other than "cancer mum Sun newspaper sob stories" and a "gofundme".

There are many routes to the same path!

You know which 2 won't be accepted.
