    Ideas and Possibilities for 2010

American horseracing trainer Bobby Frankel is suffering from an unspecified type of cancer and was too ill to watch three of his horses appear at last weeks Breeders' Cup race. A couple of months ago the same news source said that "he has been dealing with a respiratory illness", helpfully giving us a clue about the nature of his diagnosis and therefore his likely prognosis. I think that he will die quite soon and am pretty confident that he will get a UK obituary.

Nick Du Toit / Simon Mann / Mark Thatcher

This article in the South African press states that Simon Mann is suffering from cancer. I haven't seen any other stories which suggest this, so it's probably just a misunderstanding. The same article says that Nick Du Toit, the original subject of this thread, has found God.

I bet Nick Du Toit is thrilled for him. (edit - that was supposed to be an ironic comment, but I now see he has been pardoned as well)

Bugger - they were both on my team for next year and I had hoped no one else would pick either of them. *Anorak alert* OoO - I was wondering if the Daily Record be enough for DDP points? And would this BBC page for Dickie Peterson have counted, given that the content is entirely lifted of Wikipedia?

    John Tyndall & Nick Griffin

Does anyone else think that Nick Griffin's haircut looks like it has been stolen from a twelve year old boy? I have just seen that Piers Morgan has a programme at the same time on ITV. Not often you have a choice between which odious fat faced piece of sh*t you want to watch. Nick Griffin manages to dupe stupid people who are not necessarily far right supporters by nature. He doesn't mind admitting it either when he thinks nobody but his supporters are watching and, for that reason, I'm not sure he should be allowed on the telly. In fact I'd go further and consider outlawing the BNP altogether. I know that's not very democratic, but I don't see any need to be democratic when dealing with those who preach hate - just as the government obviously believe when they're rounding up the Islamic hate merchants on the other side of the extremist spectrum. I'm surprised that Griffin has agreed to share a platform with a bunch of mainstream, expense-fiddling bandits, but I reckon he's taking a huge risk going on the show tonight. He's going to have such a hard job defending his ridiculous, ill-thought out and nasty policies. Whenever I hear Griffin interviewed, he flounders when faced even with a simple question. I'm backing Jack Straw and Chris Huhne to make him look very silly tonight.

    Martin Gardner

Martin Gardner is 95 today. He's still writing books and publishing puzzles and, sadly for the two teams who picked him on the DDP, he looks fairly unlikely to die before 2010.

Nooooooooooooo. I saw Flowered Up live in Exeter once and they perfectly complimented whatever substances I had been taking that evening. I'm off to find my vinyl single of "Take It" and give it a listen for the first time in well over a decade. RIP Liam
