Jazz Legend Alvin Batiste has died. If anyone reading this has purchased tickets for his performance today at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, I'm sorry to tell you that Alvin will not be appearing. Don't know how Iain missed this one.

I feared something like this might happen. I STILL haven't got a DDP hit this year. Eheu! -

I'm one of the lucky 1200 Exeter fans going up to Oxford on Tuesday night for the second leg of the play off semi-final. Our day of destiny gets ever closer. For the few who might be interested, The Guardian did a very good article recently about Exeter City's dark days of financial meltdown. We've come a long way in four years.

And what about Abu Ayyub al-Masri, loads of obits but no body. I've been on fretting about it for nearly 48 hours now

She isn't/wasn't a nobody like you and I are a nobody, Windsor (I apologise if you are indeed famous). Yes there are professors all over the world, but not all of them are world renowned experts in their field, not all of them have published seminal biographies and not all of them are based at UCL, within sniffing distance of the obit hacks in Fleet Street. Your opinion and the DDP rules are two completely different things, not for the first time.

He still isn't properly, officially, certainly dead yet. I wonder if I'm going to get any DDP points for his (alleged) demise? Some words of re assurance from fellow DeathListers would be a great source of comfort, as I'm sure you can appreciate, this is a very tense time for me. -
Zola Taylor, former singer with R&B group The Platters and widow of the 50s singer Frankie Lymon, has died at the age of 69.

I knew he had his own thread somewhere. I do hope reports of his death are true. he would be my first DDP hit of the year. His predecessor was my first DDP hit last year, happy days! -

Damir Dokić, the father of the tennis player Jelena Dokic says he is very ill. He's famous in his own right for throwing numerous tantrums on the tennis circuit, his Wiki page makes interesting reading.

Does Dickie Bird count as it's not his real name. The only other one I can think of is Dickie Davis but I don't think there are any health issues there. I'd say he should count, it's not as if any of the other above mentioned Dicks have Dick on their birth certificate. Quite why Harold Bird decided he wished to be addressed ad Dickie is beyond me. It should also be noted that the youngest woman to climb Mount Everest was called Dicky Dolma.

He's dead. My ideas for 2008 really aren't showing much staying power at the moment.

I think here and now would be a good time to mention the jazz musician Dick Hyman. The unmarried cricket umpire Dickie Bird, could also be considered as a potential dead dick. And Dickie Arbiter, is he still alive?

Former Ireland and Ulster rugby coach Jimmy Davidson died peacefully on Saturday after a long illness. He was 64.

That was mentioned in this thread on Wednesday, a full FOUR DAYS ago, you blithering idiot. can I ask the moderators if its ok for Octopus to make t his kind of personal insult to a fellow forum member just because I made a mistake?Should he not get some kind of formal warning? I think insulting fellow forum members is generally frowned upon, Iain. However in your case I should think that an exception has been made. Blithering idiot doesn't do you justice though, I prefer blundering moron. I'm sure other Deathlisters could come up with some inspired two word descriptions of you, without too much prompting.

Ivica Racan, former Prime Minister of Croatia, mentioned on the ideas thread, has died of kidney and brain cancer at the age of 63. Poor chap, his doctors tried to prolong his life by radiating his entire head, which caused him so much pain he spent his last days in a medically induced coma.

Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2007

I've got mine so don't need to, guess which one is me ( I don't think my profile pic will help!) I reckon the wee lassie at the right hand end of the front row looks fairly grendelish. I'd go along with that - I'm sure I remember LG saying she was quite short, and that wee lassie does seem a bit more wee than her peers. -
Star Wars actor Ron Phillips, who played an Ewok in Return Of The Jedi, has died at the age of 95.

Most of us know it is wrong to leave a pet in a locked vehicle on a hot day. So you'd think that the student who left almost 500 birds, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits and rats in his car while he went to a lesson, may have had an inkling they might not all be alive when he got back.

His Holiness Alexy II Patriarch of Russia has been receiving medical treatment in Switzerland. His camp say that everything is beautiful and he's in fine fettle, but, morbidly, I prefer to believe the rumours that he is gravely ill.
