Coronavirus death toll 2020
DevonDeathTrip replied to paddyfool's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Looking on the bright side, if 500,000 of this country's frailest souls are going to be swiftly removed from the equation, then our social care crisis is going to be resolved for the time being. There is also going to be a massive death duties windfall, which, when combined with the plummetting cost of oil and borrowing, will probably prove an attractive proposition to Boris Johnson and his team of advisors. Although heaven forbid attractive enough to actually influence their policies when deciding how to tackle this calamity. -

Just noticed that the whole series of the eerily prescient 1970s BBC series Survivors is on YouTube. Something to while away the hours as we all withdraw into self-imposed isolation? -
Coronavirus death toll 2020

From this week's Private Eye -
Yes, this thread is specifically for 'celebrity' or notable Coronavirus victims and I'll amend the title to that effect. Not sure the condemnation of the OP is really necessary. Edit - Done, but can't think of a witty subtitle...

I was just about to do the same thing myself. In a worst case scenario, we could be in for a spectacular amount of death on the DDP, given that most of the picks are ill already. Perhaps we should have a thread on extra curricular, where members can report as and when they are afflicted. (So if they stop posting altogether, we'll know why)

I got into the spirit of things by panic buying two packets of paracetamol in Morrisons earlier. -
You're quite right, I could just look the other way, but I'm not going to. Anyway you're now on mod preview. I was going to make it permanent, but am pleased to tell you it's only for the next seventeen years, by which time you'll hopefully be slightly less annoying.

@TheKing you're just posting drivel and this forum needs you about as much as we need Japanese knotweed. You're either a child, or a moron, or possibly both, but in any case, please do something about your quality control or we'll have to do it for you. DDT

Now there's one for the conspiracy theorists...

Dr Friedgood's family have just revealed he died of cancer in 2018, aged 99.

I will be submitting a squad. Probably with Cleo Laine in it (because of my dream).
-
Sad. I'd go as far as to say that Fade Into You might have been the greatest five minutes of the mid 90s.

Harry Belafonte to spontaneously combust.

While trying to find some info on Cleo Laine's health (because I had a dream -so clear it was more like a vision - that her death was announced by Chris Packham, live on Springwatch) I didn't get very far, but did discover that she has appeared on the Muppets. Anyway I found a list of 125 people who guest starred on the program - all of them worthy of some credit imho for not taking themselves too seriously - and it struck me that a lot of them are now dead. So I was going to reproduce the list here, complete with crossings out and everything, but I'm tired and ran out energy. But here's the page I was looking at. https://m.imdb.com/list/ls000020636/ Lots of old DL favourites included, dead and alive.

Slightly embarrassed to say I've never heard of her. I looked her up to find a photo and I didn't recognise that either.

Agree. This has set a new standard in journalistic endeavor, which even the Daily Express might struggle to compete with in years to come. The mind boggles. -
I'd like to suggest Professor Brian H. Murdoch, one of Ireland's most eminent mathematicians, who will be 90 this year. He is a cousin of the late Iris Murdoch - some clever genes in that family - and a world renowned expert in random walks.

John Treagood, one of the last dwellers of a horse-drawn caravan and a familiar sight in Devon for at least thirty years, has apparently died. https://www.devonlive.com/news/devon-news/devon-traveller-john-treagood-died-3830741 A very intelligent man - the story goes that he was a lecturer at Leeds University in the 1970s before walking out for his lunch break one day, never to return. -
The latest edition of the National Enquirer boldly predicts the carona death toll will be 65 million.
