The EU Referendum Hokey Cokey
DevonDeathTrip replied to YoungWillz's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I'm quite relaxed with the idea of No Deal in eleven days time. Yes there will be some turbulence, but we will cope and gather strength in adversity. Besides, they say that crisis is the best aid to socialist electoral success. So if it follows that we end up in a Corbynite utopia, unfettered by the pro-austerity, anti-nationalisation constraints of the Lisbon Treaty, then I'm happy with that. I did very reluctantly vote Remain in the referendum. If we have another vote forced upon us, I will definitely be voting Leave. Time to shake ourselves out of this paralysis, to move on and to start concentrating on the real issues which divide our society rather than faffing about in the forlorn hope we might eventually come to any sort of consensus on how we may deliver on the will of the electorate. -
Well done DI, the better team won. I knew I'd have to raise my game to stand a chance against you, which makes my decision to pick Dame Vera over Luke Perry even more inexplicable.

I thought Bob Harris sounded a bit ropey presenting the Bowie tribute on Radio 2 last night. As a random aside, the thought did occur to me that Harris must have interviewed more people over the years who've gone on to die of a drug overdose than almost anyone else on the planet.

You ever heard of the pioneering all girl rock group Fanny, MPFC? Would be good to have some Fanny on your show, so to speak

I thought a pie thread might be in order. Possibly because I'm half asleep. Please feel free to discuss sweet and savoury pie - or pudding - preferences, share baking anecdotes or debate the use of suet here. Desperate Dan's cow pie, complete with horns rising from the pastry and tail hanging out the side always made me smile.

I wonder if her signature is actually supposed to resemble a peacock? -
Whilst puttering about offshore early this morning, I'm 99% sure I saw an albatross gliding overhead. I thought my eyes had deceived me, but according to Twitter a black-browed albatross was seen in Cornwall a couple of weeks ago, so I guess this was the same one. Amazing to see such a magnificent bird so close to home, it's really made my day. (Photo for illustrative purposes only, by the time I'd got my phone set up to camera, my albatross was long gone)

7 Skies H3 by the Flaming Lips, although I'm not sure I can manage the whole 24hrs in one sitting. Part 1 Part 2 -
There's always The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement. I actually agree with Bladen to a point; human population left unchecked and spiraling out of control will inevitably lead to a cataclysm of immense proportions. However I'm not sure a mass cull is necessary quite yet. That said, nobody can be held responsible for their own birth, or for the evolution of their forefathers and this raises interesting questions about how liable we can be held, individually or collectively, for ruining the planet. 'Antinatalist' philosopher David Benetar's seminal work Better Never To Have Been: The Harm of Coming Into Existence explores these troubling conundrums in more detail. P.S Sorry, I didn't realise this was the Weather thread

Hal Blaine was a survivor of the Hartford circus fire of 1944. So a tenuous link to some trivia... Another survivor was 'The Armless and Legless Wonder', Frieda Pushnik who was on stage and helpless when the inferno took hold, before being rescued by a courageous minstrel singer who carried her to safety.

After waiting so long for the obit, I'm happy to get any points at all. Alas I fear the impending demises of Gilbert, Bracknell and Clegg - all sacked from my squad for dallying - will see this lone breakaway swept up by the peloton long before we get to the business end of the race.
-
Ha! Never in any doubt.

UK obituary for Bernice McCabe.

SDF press officer says otherwise.

I wonder if there would be any mileage in a paid deadpooling consultancy service? I could set up a premium rate phone number and give my views when people phone me up with their ideas.

Egyptian feminist, doctor, novelist and activist Nawal El Saadawi, 87, has a crowdfunding page up to pay her hospital bills. The latest update is that she is getting better, but definitely someone to keep an eye on, as her health looks rather perilous. Also, as an added bonus, she's the subject of frequent death threats from disgruntled Islamic traditionalists who consider her enlightened views to be heretical.

Just meditating over the mortality of Luke Perry - as latest reports suggest a 'massive' stroke - then I'll be submitting my squad.
-
Sorry if this interferes with anyone's DL cup preparation, but...

Yes I am. I've just taken a screenshot of the leaderboard, as this might never happen again. Condolences to Mr Tork's family aside, I can't tell you how happy this makes me Indeed. Tork replaced Leah Bracknell in my squad. I'm not the most patient of deadpoolers. Now where on Earth is that obit for Bernice McCabe?
-
Still no obit. I thought she'd get loads straight away, which shows how much I know. Hopefully something will appear in due course.
-
Good news. I've been worrying.

Nicaraguan theologian, poet and Sandinista fanboy Fr.Ernesto Cardenal for your consideration. Highly obitable I would have thought.

Wow, it says I'm from Bude, which is a whole four miles away (& over the border from God's county). Never realised I was such a yokel
