General Non School Massacre Thread

Sigh. Because freedom of speech comes with responsibilities. Responsibilities which were signally lacking in the post I quoted. I don't think I'm the one struggling with the concept here. -

I should just delete your post as incitement to religious hatred, but I'll leave it as a monument to your bone headed stupidity and ignorance. -

What about whataboutism? CarolAnn makes a perfectly valid point, you can't just extrapolate from a sample of one to 'prove' your case and expect not to be challenged. Some of the posts made today really depress me and suggest that the terrorists are achieving their aim in one sense; they want an all out holy war and if the level of vitriol towards Muslims expressed on this thread is in any way indictive of public feeling, then eventually that is what they will get. -
I've finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th in the DDP. Was hoping to finish 4th this year to complete the set, but, alas I don't think I'll attain such lofty heights if current performance is anything to go by. I'll be back with a better team in 2018 though. Nothing like a bad year to get me back into competitive mode.

Kendra Smith, singer and founding member of 80s US bands Dream Syndicate and Opal, has been lying low since 1998. Apparently she lives off the grid somewhere in Northern California and her royalty cheques remain uncashed. Funnily enough I've just found this out after listening to her final album, the aptly named Five Ways To Disappear.

Jan Morris, possibly the world's most notable nonagenarian, transgendered, Welsh travel writer, was on Radio 4 tonight gasping about New York and generally sounding in need of an oxygen tank -
I always go for an unnatural death bonus....but haven't had one since 2006, which possibly makes the case for me giving up trying Nevertheless, I think deadpooling is more fun when you take risks. I can only speak for myself, but getting points for Al-Baghdadi would give me more of a warm glow inside than getting the equivalent amount of points for some hapless housewife from Hemel Hempstead with liver cancer and a bucket list which made the Daily Mail.

Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny reckons he's got a fifty percent chance of being killed for daring to speak out against Vladimir Putin. Navalny is only 44 and, with an unnatural death bonus on offer as well, he could potentially be a good DDP pick.

After a close look at the row behind I make it seven...although I'm not quite how Ian St John got on the guest list for this event -
Bob MacKenzie, chairman of the AA, sacked for gross misconduct, with his son claiming he is very ill with "an extremely distressing mental health issue". I wonder what has happened here....

Hardly a celebrity relative, but Billy McConville one of the ten children of the disappeared IRA victim Jean McConville, has terminal cancer. Poor man, he hasn't had much luck at all in life if that article is anything to go by. Also, I'm really not sure about the wallpaper behind his bed. -
Angus Sinclair "skeletal" and "on his deathbed", according to the Daily Mail.

Someone who I don't think has been mentioned before is 94 year old Eileen Sheridan, probably Britain's second best ever female cyclist (after the late Beryl Burton). She popped up on tonight's BBC 4 documentary about Raleigh bikes, looking incredibly sprightly for her advanced years. She broke numerous distance records in her career and, impressively, the record time she set in 1954 for cycling from London to Edinburgh has yet to be beaten. Definitely broadsheet obit material, so I thought I'd put her name out there.

The ironic thing is that Max Clifford would have been great at drumming up some publicity for Rolf, if he wasn't otherwise indisposed himself...

I worry about this relationship, Arlene seems a bit of a bully and is probably making Theresa do all sorts of things she doesn't want to do #trynottopicturethescene -
I'm a member and regular lurker there, but I think I've made five posts in ten years, so wouldn't call it my natural home. There is a massive thread on the site dedicated to the Station Nightclub Fire, with about 7000 posts which, for some reason, I always found very compelling.

Has anyone else seen the new Twin Peaks series? I've probably infected my PC with all sorts of malware, but I have found all the episodes to view online. Apparently it has got a fairly mixed reception, but I worship at the alter of David Lynch and I'm happy to report that it's truly and utterly brilliant. (The bit about shadows, three minutes in and then he starts muttering about dharma! ) -

"That means fighting against the burning injustice that, if you’re born poor, you will die on average 9 years earlier than others." From Theresa May's first statement as PM. Time to walk the walk, Tories. -
I tend to agree, Theresa is going to have to make do with less, just like the rest of us. The Brexit talks could be her undoing. I think, such is the EU's tough stance, discussions stand a very good chance of breaking down quite quickly and that will trigger a no-confidence vote, which Remainer Tories will use to put the knife in. It is going to get very ugly with Europe and I'm sure it won't be long now before Lord Howard pops up to helpfully suggest preemptive bomb strikes on Brussels, Strasbourg and possibly Edinburgh whilst we're at it. As for May's chance of dying, we're well overdue an assassination and Michael Gove could take her out with a sniper rifle. Wouldn't put it past him...

I always like to see how the lesser known candidates got on. The Irish Times have provided a helpful list of the ten hopefuls who accrued the lowest amount of votes. I think it is regrettable that the man who dressed up as Elmo and challenged Teresa May only persuaded three constituents he was the best man for the job. http://www.irishnews.com/magazine/daily/2017/06/09/news/here-are-the-10-least-popular-candidates-from-the-general-election-1050396/ -
Hmm. The article doesn't say how old he was, but he could be a contender for the scrabble thread and possibly the only entrant so far to have been killed by a wild animal.
